Yes—if you want a compact, unusual survival-horror campaign that mixes shooting, puzzles and exploration. Dementium II HD is a poor match for players seeking a long horror epic, extensive branching choices or a highly polished modern PC port. Its value rests on a focused story, a distinctive setting and an unlockable wave-based Survival mode rather than on dozens of hours of content.
What Dementium II HD is on Steam
Dementium II HD is a single-player first-person action/adventure game with survival-horror elements. Memetic Games developed the Steam release, which arrived on December 17, 2013. The store description presents it as a blend of action, story and puzzles: you use multifunctional weapons to fight enemies and open new areas, while the setting shifts from the Bright Dawn Treatment Center to the strange Pelf Village and its ghostly inhabitants.
The story follows William Redmoor as he attempts to escape the Bright Dawn Treatment Center. That premise gives the game a clear forward goal instead of an open-ended campaign. Exploration, combat and environmental problem-solving are arranged around progressing through that escape.

Steam identifies the game as an indie title and lists several platform features:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Those features make the Steam edition convenient to own and complete, but they should not be mistaken for a large amount of content. Achievements and trading cards add checklist goals; they do not turn a short story into a long-running progression system.
How long is Dementium II?
GameSpot’s 2010 review estimates the main campaign at about five to six hours. Treat that as a typical completion time rather than a guarantee: players who search thoroughly, spend longer on puzzles or move cautiously through hostile areas may take more time, while experienced players who focus on the critical path may finish sooner.
Five to six hours places Dementium II in the “weekend horror” category. You can complete the story in one or two sittings without committing to a month-long campaign. That short length is central to the buying decision:
Recommended Free Tools
- It suits a concentrated experience. The game can deliver its hospital-and-village setting, combat encounters and puzzles without requiring a large time investment.
- It limits the amount of development you should expect. There is less room for numerous enemy families, elaborate side quests, multiple endings or long character arcs than in a 15- to 30-hour horror game.
- It affects the price you should accept. Without a stated Steam price in the available information, the sensible approach is to judge the purchase against your tolerance for a five- to six-hour story and wait for a substantial discount if that feels too short.
The campaign estimate also explains why the game can feel purposeful to one player and slight to another. A player who values pacing and a complete, self-contained run may regard the length as efficient. A player who measures value mainly by hours, optional content or replay systems will see the same runtime as a limitation.

What you do during the campaign
Combat with multifunctional weapons
The Steam description emphasizes multifunctional weapons. They are used both to defeat enemies and to open areas, so equipment is part of progression as well as combat. That design gives encounters a practical role in exploration: finding or using a weapon can affect where you can go, not merely how quickly you can eliminate a creature.
Exploration and environmental puzzles
Puzzles are one of the three pillars named in the store description, alongside action and story. Expect progression to alternate between searching spaces, working out how to move forward and surviving encounters. The available material does not establish a puzzle count, difficulty curve or optional puzzle system, so those details should not be assumed when comparing the game with dedicated puzzle adventures.
A deliberately unusual setting
The Bright Dawn Treatment Center provides the initial escape scenario, while Pelf Village introduces ghostly creatures and a different kind of unease. That movement between locations is a major part of the game’s identity. It is a better fit for players who enjoy odd, disorienting horror spaces than for players looking for a realistic military shooter or a purely stealth-focused haunted-house game.

GameSpot reports that completing the campaign can unlock a challenging Survival mode. It uses arena-style waves of creatures, giving you repeated combat encounters after the linear story is over.

Survival mode is the main post-campaign activity identified for Dementium II. Its value depends on what you want from replay:
- It provides an additional reason to keep the game installed after the story ends.
- It lets you focus on combat and endurance rather than solving the campaign’s progression puzzles.
- It can supply a personal challenge if you enjoy improving runs against escalating waves.
- It does not replace a full second campaign, branching storyline or broad collection of side missions.
GameSpot characterized the story as having “pretty much zero replay value” apart from this kind of extra activity. In practical terms, you should buy Dementium II for the first playthrough and treat Survival mode as a bonus, not as evidence of a large replay ecosystem.
How good is the Steam PC version?
The clearest warning is the divided purchaser response. A Steam snapshot accessed in 2026 shows 50% positive from 968 Steam purchaser reviews. That is not a uniformly enthusiastic reception, and it means the PC version deserves more caution than a game with an overwhelmingly positive rating.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA mixed rating does not identify one universal fault affecting every player. It does, however, signal that expectations about the port should be modest. Players who are comfortable with older design conventions, unusual presentation and possible rough edges may find the game’s atmosphere worth the trade-offs. Players who expect consistently polished controls, flawless technical behavior and modern quality-of-life features have stronger reasons to wait for a deep discount or skip it.

The listing’s controller-support indicator is useful if you prefer a gamepad, while Steam Cloud can make switching computers easier. Neither feature guarantees that every controller, display configuration or modern system will behave identically, so keep normal PC troubleshooting options in mind if your setup is unusual.
Who should buy it on Steam?
Buy at an acceptable price if you want
- A short first-person survival-horror campaign you can finish in a weekend.
- A blend of gunplay, exploration, story and puzzles rather than a single-genre experience.
- An unconventional setting that moves from a treatment center to Pelf Village and its ghostly threats.
- A complete story with an optional wave-based mode after the ending.
- Steam conveniences such as achievements, trading cards, cloud saves, Family Sharing and controller support.
Skip or wait for a deep discount if you need
- A long campaign with many chapters or substantial side content.
- Meaningful branching paths, multiple endings or a story that changes dramatically on repeat runs.
- A collectible-driven completion loop that adds many hours.
- A consistently acclaimed PC port with little tolerance for dated or uneven presentation.
- A purchase whose value is justified primarily by total playtime.
A practical buying decision
Use the following sequence before you click Buy. It keeps the decision tied to the game’s actual strengths instead of to generic horror expectations.
- Set your time requirement. If five to six hours is enough for a complete horror story, the length is compatible with your schedule. If you require a much longer campaign, the game starts at a disadvantage.
- Decide whether atmosphere matters more than scale. The treatment-center and Pelf Village settings, plus the ghostly-creature premise, are central attractions. If you prefer broad worlds and extensive optional exploration, this is unlikely to compensate for the short runtime.
- Value Survival mode correctly. Consider the wave arena a combat-focused extra. Do not count it as a second story campaign.
- Check your tolerance for mixed PC feedback. The 50% positive Steam snapshot means you should not assume a universally smooth experience. A discount lowers the risk if you are curious but cautious.
- Choose your input method. Controller support is listed on Steam, so gamepad users have an officially identified option. Keyboard-and-mouse players should still confirm that their preferred control setup feels comfortable during the opening session.
- Buy for the experience, not the checklist. The 23 achievements and trading cards are useful completion extras, but they do not substantially expand the campaign.
Does the short length make it a bad value?
Not automatically. A five- to six-hour game can be worthwhile when its pacing, mood and premise are exactly what you want. Dementium II’s compact structure also reduces the risk of a horror game exhausting its central idea through repetition. You get a defined escape story, a change of setting and a separate combat challenge without having to invest dozens of hours.
The same economy becomes a weakness when you expect a large progression arc. There is no evidence here of extensive branching, a substantial side-quest layer or a replay structure built around different outcomes. If those systems are what make a horror purchase feel complete to you, the campaign estimate and GameSpot’s replay assessment are reasons to hold off.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Steam features versus actual content
It is useful to separate platform conveniences from the game’s substantive content. Steam’s achievements, cards, cloud support, Family Sharing and controller support make ownership easier and can add small completion goals. They do not change the fundamental shape of the game: one short story campaign followed by Survival mode.
This distinction matters when comparing store pages. A title can list many platform features while still being a focused, linear experience. For Dementium II, those features improve accessibility and account integration; they are not substitutes for extra chapters or a deeper replay model.
Final verdict: is Dementium II HD worth buying?
Dementium II HD is a reasonable Steam purchase for a specific audience: players who enjoy compact survival horror, unusual locations and a mixture of action, puzzles and exploration. The five- to six-hour campaign offers a manageable weekend-sized story, and Survival mode gives combat-focused players something to do after the ending.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
It is a weak fit for anyone buying primarily for length, extensive replayability or a uniformly praised PC port. The 50% positive rating from 968 Steam purchaser reviews is a meaningful caution, while GameSpot’s assessment of almost no story replay value sets a clear limit on what the purchase provides. Buy when the format and atmosphere appeal to you, and let the price reflect that this is a concentrated experience rather than a large horror package.
