Browserless can be worth paying for if you need managed browser infrastructure and your screenshot work is a straightforward, stateless request. Its REST API returns rendered image bytes without requiring you to run Puppeteer or Playwright locally. Whether the cost makes sense depends on how long pages take to render, how many captures you run, whether you use proxies or CAPTCHA solving, and whether you need interactive browser control.
There is no workload-independent evidence that Browserless is faster, more reliable, or cheaper than another screenshot API. Compare it against your own pages and usage estimates before committing.
What Browserless does for screenshot APIs
Browserless offers a hosted POST /screenshot REST endpoint. Send a URL or HTML content with an API token; the response contains image bytes. Its current documentation lists PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, plus options for full-page captures, viewport size, quality, clipping, device scale factor, selector-based capture, waits, page configuration, and injecting styles or scripts before capture. See the current screenshot API reference.
The practical benefit is outsourcing browser execution: your application makes an HTTP request instead of installing and operating its own browser runtime. Browserless describes REST endpoints as suited to one browser task per request. If the work must inspect a live page, react to changes, or branch through an interactive flow, browser connections or function execution may fit better. Its product overview describes cloud, self-hosting, REST, BrowserQL, and Puppeteer/Playwright connection options.
#1 Best Overall
- WINDOW SCREEN REMOVAL TOOL: Designed to easily engage, lift, and remove window screens without damaging frames or mesh.
- Durable Nylon Construction – Made from high-strength, impact-resistant nylon that's tough enough to handle repeated use yet gentle on delicate surfaces, won't rust or corrode like metal tools.
- DUAL-END DESIGN: Features a forked end to engage and lift screen edges and a flat pry tip on the opposite end for versatile use.
- HIGH-VISIBILITY COLOR: Bright orange construction makes this tool easy to spot and prevents it from being misplaced on the job site.
- DIY-FRIENDLY: The ideal tool for homeowners and professionals tackling window screen repair, replacement, or seasonal removal tasks.
When Browserless is a good fit
- Automated snapshots: capture public pages, internal dashboards, or reports when access controls and page behavior allow browser rendering.
- Full-page or element captures: produce images of whole pages or a selected region for documentation, monitoring, or downstream image processing.
- HTML rendering: turn generated markup into an image without deploying a local browser runtime.
- Event-driven services: submit a request from a job or application and store or process the returned image bytes.
These are use cases suggested by the documented API, not independently tested outcomes. Browserless also demonstrates webpage and generated-markup capture in its screenshot documentation; BrowserQL provides screenshot operations for users who need its declarative browser interface (BrowserQL screenshot use case).
What it costs, and how to estimate your bill
Browserless pricing is usage-based. The following figures were displayed on its official pricing page on October 3, 2026 UTC. They are a dated snapshot, not a guarantee of current terms; check the live pricing page before choosing a plan. The listed paid monthly prices below are billed annually.

Browserless defines one unit as up to 30 seconds of browser-session time, with partial increments rounded up. A 31-second session therefore uses two time units. Its metering documentation also lists built-in residential proxy traffic at six units per MB, datacenter proxy traffic at two units per MB, and successful CAPTCHA solves at ten units each. These are vendor-published terms; consult the usage-metering documentation for current details.
Estimate your workload before selecting a plan
- Measure the full session time for representative captures, including navigation and any waits.
- Estimate monthly capture volume and multiply by the session units per capture, rounding each session up to the next 30-second increment.
- Add expected proxy bandwidth and successful CAPTCHA-solve usage if applicable.
- Check peak concurrency, queueing needs, and plan session-duration limits on the current pricing page.
- Compare estimated usage and overages with the subscription cost, the engineering cost of operating browsers yourself, and alternatives tested on the same pages.
There is no universal cost per screenshot: page complexity, session time, waits, proxy traffic, and CAPTCHA solving can change the total. A free allowance can help a low-volume prototype evaluate its actual pages; production planning should use measured workload data.

A successful HTTP request does not guarantee a useful screenshot. A target can show a blank or incomplete page, a CAPTCHA, or an access-denied screen if automation is blocked or content has not loaded by capture time. Browserless recommends configuring waits and scrolling for lazy-loaded content; it documents an /unblock path for bot-detection cases, but that is a technical option, not a guarantee that every protected site will work. See the screenshot troubleshooting guidance.
For inline HTML, Browserless warns not to send url at the same time. Also use the current /screenshot documentation for new work: the legacy BaaS v1 screenshot reference is deprecated and directs readers to current BaaS v2 or BrowserQL material (deprecated v1 reference).

How to decide whether Browserless is worth it
Browserless is most compelling when managed browser operations and a direct HTTP interface matter more than the subscription price, and the task is a stateless capture. For a branching or interactive workflow, consider whether a browser connection or function-based approach is more suitable. For a self-hosted browser or another service, make the comparison using the same pages and requirements rather than assuming a cost or performance advantage.
- Total cost: include browser-time units, overages, proxy bandwidth, and CAPTCHA solves.
- Operations: weigh managed infrastructure against setup and maintenance for your own browser runtime.
- Capacity: verify peak concurrency, queueing behavior, and session-duration limits for the relevant plan.
- Correctness: test rendering on the target pages, especially dynamic or protected ones.
- Workflow: decide whether a stateless request is enough or whether the job needs interactive control.
- Business requirements: separately verify data handling, geography, and enterprise terms for the account and deployment you would use.
The available vendor documentation establishes Browserless capabilities and published terms, but it does not establish comparative latency, success rates, or cost per capture. Those depend on your workload and should be evaluated directly.

FAQ
Can Browserless capture a full-page screenshot through its API?
Yes. The current screenshot API documentation lists full-page capture as an option.
Does Browserless guarantee that a protected page can be captured?
No. The documented unblock option may help with bot detection, but protected sites can still present a CAPTCHA or access-denied page.
