Based on the hands-on report published October 6, 2026, probably not if you already have a workable emulation setup. Steam Deck HQ’s Noah Kupetsky found visible graphical artifacts in bbport and said the tested experience did not justify switching. That is one reviewer’s judgment about the build and setup he tried—not a universal result for every Steam Deck or a guarantee about later releases.
What “native” means in bbport
bbport is a Linux project for Bloodborne version 1.09, not an official PC release. Its repository says the game’s x86-64 CPU code runs directly on the PC processor, without instruction translation. Around that code, bbport supplies a purpose-built runtime that implements selected PS4 system functions the game calls. Its graphics path, however, uses a modified, shadPS4-derived video core and shader recompiler. Calling it “native” without that distinction can give the wrong impression: CPU execution is native to the PC, but the project still relies on compatibility work and an emulator-derived graphics system. The project is designed specifically for one game, rather than as a general PS4 emulator. Its developers describe distributing graphics-command decoding and draw recording across threads. Those are architectural choices, not proof of a particular frame rate or of a better result on every Deck.
Why the Steam Deck verdict is cautious
In his October 6, 2026 article, Steam Deck HQ’s Noah Kupetsky describes bbport as experimental and playable. He reports trying a legally purchased and dumped game copy, seeing considerable graphical artifacting, and concluding that the experience was not good enough to recommend switching from emulation. That is the clearest direct evidence for the title’s “isn’t worth it” verdict, but it is a hands-on assessment of his tested experience—not a controlled comparison across Steam Deck models, locations, or matched configurations. The available reporting does not establish a verified, repeatable Steam Deck frame-rate comparison between bbport and shadPS4. It also does not settle every relevant trade-off, such as setup burden, image stability on another Deck, frame pacing, or how closely a configuration matches the PS4 experience. Do not read “not worth it” as a measured performance ranking that applies to all users.
Recommended settings—and what they do not prove
bbport’s October 3 release notes recommend FSR 3 and 1280×720 output for Steam Deck. They also say FSR 4.1.1 models are not included and that FSR 4.1.1 costs several milliseconds per frame on the Deck. These are project-published recommendations and claims, not independent performance measurements. For a Deck decision, weigh the criteria that matter to you rather than assuming “native” means effortless or automatically faster: image stability and artifacts, configuration work, fidelity to the original PS4 experience, frame pacing on your own device, and how quickly the project is changing. The cited sources do not provide consistent measurements for those factors across both software options.
Steam Deck context: Proton and resolution
Valve says Steam Deck uses Proton to run Windows-only games: Proton runs the Windows executable and game data on the Deck’s Linux-based operating system. Valve recommends supporting the Deck’s native 1280×800 resolution or 1280×720 where possible. This explains why a Linux project such as bbport may describe its CPU path as native while still needing compatibility components, and why 1280×720 appears in the project’s guidance. Should you try bbport?
- Consider it if you are comfortable with an experimental, single-game project and want to test its native CPU execution and custom runtime for yourself.
- Be cautious about switching if your current approach is acceptable: the cited Steam Deck report found artifacts substantial enough to outweigh the case for changing, and the sources do not show a repeatable performance advantage.
- Use the project’s Deck guidance as a starting point—FSR 3 and 1280×720—not as a promise of a clean image or particular frame rate.
- Choose PlayStation for the platform-specific route if that is available to you; Sony identifies the game as a PS4 title, not a Deck release.
Both bbport and shadPS4 can change quickly. The conclusion here reflects project information available October 7, 2026 and the October 6 hands-on report; a later build or a carefully documented test could change the practical recommendation.
