The 2024 claim that the iPhone SE 4 might use Apple’s own 5G modem was an analyst forecast, not an Apple specification. Apple later announced a phone called iPhone 16e, part of the iPhone 16 family, and said it uses C1, the first modem designed by Apple.
What the iPhone SE 4 report said
On July 24, 2024, MacRumors reported analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s expectation that the anticipated fourth-generation iPhone SE would use Apple’s own 5G chip. The wording “might include” matters: it described a prediction before Apple announced the product, not a confirmed specification. MacRumors’ report
What Apple announced instead
On February 18, 2025, Apple announced iPhone 16e as part of the iPhone 16 family. Apple did not announce the device under the name “iPhone SE 4.” It identified the phone’s C1 as its first modem designed by Apple and said the modem delivers 5G cellular connectivity. Apple’s iPhone 16e announcement
Apple also called C1 “the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone.” That is Apple’s product claim; the sources cited here do not provide an independent comparison with Qualcomm or another modem, nor an independent benchmark of C1’s speed, reception, or efficiency.

What is known about iPhone 16e
Display and connection
Apple specified a 6.1-inch OLED display and USB-C connectivity for iPhone 16e. These details apply to the announced iPhone 16e, not to the earlier forecast as it was reported. Apple’s iPhone 16e product details
Apple’s battery-life comparisons
Apple said iPhone 16e offers up to six hours longer battery life than iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than all generations of iPhone SE. Those are Apple’s stated comparisons, not independent test results. The announcement does not make them a universal prediction for every user’s battery life.
