What is confirmed about iPhone 18 and iPhone 17?
Apple’s US shop listing shows iPhone 17, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max. It does not show a standard iPhone 18. That means the official information checked does not establish the base iPhone 18’s release timing, price, or specifications, so a direct standard-model upgrade verdict would be premature.
The iPhone 17 is a listed standard model. Apple specifies a 6.3-inch OLED display with ProMotion adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz and an A19 chip on its technical specifications page. Its product overview highlights a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system and Apple Intelligence features, including Live Translation.
Why iPhone 18 Pro details do not answer the comparison
Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with initial availability in launch markets beginning September 18. Apple listed US starting prices of $1,199 for Pro and $1,299 for Pro Max. Those dates and prices apply to the Pro models, not a standard iPhone 18. Apple’s announcement also describes an A20 Pro chip, a 48MP main camera with variable aperture, and a redesigned Dynamic Island for those Pro devices.

Buy iPhone 17 if you need a phone now
Apple lists iPhone 17 as a current standard model, and its display, chip, camera system, and highlighted software features are documented. It is the clearer choice for someone who needs a standard iPhone now and does not want to wait for details that have not been established.
