Inworld announced on September 30, 2026, that it acquired Ultravox, the Seattle-founded voice-agent platform that began as Fixie. The companies said Ultravox customers’ agents would keep running, and built-in Inworld voices would move to Realtime TTS-2 without code changes or an additional charge. The transaction price was not disclosed in contemporaneous reporting.
Who acquired Ultravox?
Inworld announced the acquisition on September 30, 2026. In its announcement, Inworld described the deal as an expansion of its speech-to-speech research and voice-agent capabilities. It said members of Ultravox’s team joined Inworld and would continue developing the platform; it did not say that the entire team transferred. GeekWire likewise reported that it was unclear whether all Ultravox employees would join Inworld.
Neither the announcement nor contemporaneous coverage established a definitive closing date. The announcement date should not be treated as confirmation of when the transaction legally closed.
What happened to Fixie AI?
Ultravox launched in 2022 as Fixie, according to GeekWire’s October 2, 2026 report. On June 25, 2025, the company announced that Fixie.ai was becoming Ultravox AI, saying the new name reflected its full-time focus on voice AI. That was a rebrand of the startup, not a separate acquisition of Fixie by Ultravox. The company’s rebrand announcement explains the change.

What does the Inworld acquisition mean for Ultravox’s technology?
The companies presented the platforms as complementary, not as a measured performance upgrade. In their acquisition announcement, they described Ultravox as bringing speech understanding, reasoning, task completion, and tools for managing turn-taking and interruptions in live conversations. Inworld contributes speech models, model serving, and real-time inference infrastructure.
- Conversation and agent control: Ultravox’s stated role includes understanding speech, reasoning through tasks, and handling conversational turns and interruptions.
- Speech generation and voice choice: Inworld supplies speech models and voices. Ultravox had already integrated Inworld TTS 1.5 voices before the acquisition.
- Serving and inference: Inworld describes its infrastructure as supporting real-time model delivery.
Before the deal, Ultravox said its January 21, 2026 integration let agents use prebuilt Inworld voices in 15 languages, with custom voice clones available to eligible Inworld customers. Those details describe the earlier TTS 1.5 integration; the later acquisition announcement concerned an update to built-in voices.

Will Ultravox customers need to migrate?
At the time of the September 30 announcement, Inworld said existing Ultravox agents would continue running and customers did not need to migrate or change code as part of the acquisition. It also said built-in Inworld voices on Ultravox would move to Realtime TTS-2 at no additional cost, with existing voice IDs continuing to work. Customers using voices from other providers were told that nothing changed for them at that time. These are the companies’ announcement-time commitments; later product changes could supersede them.

The acquisition price was undisclosed in contemporaneous coverage. GeekWire reported that Ultravox announced a $17 million seed round in March 2023. It also cited PitchBook’s $51.46 million valuation for the company at that time. That historical valuation is not the acquisition price, and it was attributed to PitchBook rather than confirmed by Ultravox as a deal value.
