Intel has described an “Adamantine” (ADM) L4 cache in a patent, and diagrams in the filing resemble Meteor Lake. But the patent does not name Meteor Lake, and Intel’s published cache documentation for shipped Meteor Lake processors does not list an ADM L4 cache. The evidence supports a proposed design and an architectural connection—not confirmation that the feature shipped in Core Ultra laptops.
What Intel’s Adamantine patent describes
Tom’s Hardware reproduces the patent’s description of a large on-package cache intended to provide access much faster than DRAM. Intel says the cache could improve communication between the host CPU and a security controller, support boot optimization, and make more memory available in a pre-initialized state at reset. These are intended functions described in a patent, not reported benchmark results.
The report also identifies possible applications such as automotive infotainment systems and robots. Those are use cases, not evidence that the cache was implemented in a product or that those systems achieved a particular performance gain.
Why the patent is associated with Meteor Lake
The patent text does not mention Meteor Lake. The connection comes from its illustrations: they show two Redwood Cove P-cores, eight Crestmont E-cores, an Xe-LPG graphics tile, and an SoC tile with two additional Crestmont cores, alongside Intel 4 and Foveros. That combination resembles Meteor Lake’s design.

Intel separately describes Meteor Lake/Core Ultra as a disaggregated tile architecture using Foveros packaging, Intel 4, integrated Arc graphics, and three processor-core types. That makes the architectural inference plausible, but it does not establish that the patent’s cache was part of a shipping Meteor Lake processor.
What shipped Meteor Lake cache documentation lists
Intel’s Meteor Lake datasheet documents the following cache hierarchy. It does not list an Adamantine L4 cache.
Rank #2
- Game Without Compromise. Play harder and work smarter with Intel Core 14th Gen processors
- 20 cores (8 P-cores plus 12 E-cores) and 28 threads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 included
- Up to 5.6 GHz with Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 gives you smooth game play, high frame rates, and rapid responsiveness
- Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) or 700-series chipset-based motherboards

| Cache level | Intel’s documented Meteor Lake details |
|---|---|
| P-core L1 data | 48 KB |
| P-core L1 instruction | 64 KB |
| P-core L2 | 2 MB |
| Shared L3 | Up to 3 MB per P-core/module |
| Adamantine L4 | Not listed in Intel’s Meteor Lake datasheet |
The distinction matters: a patent can describe a design that resembles a later processor without proving that the design reached a retail product. Intel ARK identifies the Core Ultra 7 155H as a Meteor Lake product launched in Q4 2023, with 16 cores, up to 5.10 GHz, 24 MB Intel Smart Cache, and Intel Arc graphics. Those product specifications do not establish that ADM is present.
A separate Intel patent explains the broader L4 design space
Intel’s US20220308995A1 filing, “Integrated three-dimensional (3D) DRAM cache,” has a priority date of 27 March 2021. It describes 3D DRAM integrated on the same package as compute logic and allows for a large L4 cache, a memory-side cache, or both. The filing says an L4 could be shared by multiple processor cores.

- 20 cores (8 P-cores + 12 E-cores) and 20 threads. Integrated Intel Graphics included
- Performance hybrid architecture integrates two core microarchitectures, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance

- Compatible with Intel 800 series chipset-based motherboards
- Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, and PCIe 5.0 & 4.0 support. Intel Optane Memory support. No thermal solution included
It also addresses a design trade-off: very large caches can require extensive tag information and add lookup latency. The patent describes tag caches as a way to reduce repeated tag lookups. This filing provides context for how Intel discusses large cache designs; it does not confirm that the separate Adamantine concept shipped in Meteor Lake.

A Meteor Lake laptop, including one with a Core Ultra 7 155H, is not evidence by itself that Adamantine is included. The available Intel product information identifies the processor and its documented cache specifications, but does not establish ADM L4 support for that SKU.

- Game without compromise. Play harder and work smarter with Intel Core 14th Gen processors
- 24 cores (8 P-cores plus 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 included
- Leading max clock speed of up to 6.0 GHz gives you smoother game play, higher frame rates, and rapid responsiveness
- Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) or 700-series chipset-based motherboards
- DDR4 and DDR5 platform support cuts your load times and gives you the space to run the most demanding games
No verified Adamantine capacity for a shipping Meteor Lake SKU or measured performance uplift is established in the cited material. Treat claims about a specific laptop’s ADM cache as unconfirmed unless its manufacturer or Intel documents that feature for the exact model.
