The extension provides coverage for up to five years from the CPU’s original purchase date, but it does not cover every processor in those generations. Check the exact model and how it was sold, and install a current motherboard BIOS with Microcode 0x12F or later as Intel recommends.
What Intel’s extended warranty covers
Intel’s support guidance, last reviewed July 21, 2026, says eligible processors receive two additional years of limited-warranty coverage, for a maximum of five years from the original purchase date. This is an extension to the stated warranty period, not a new five-year term beginning when a replacement is issued. Intel says the original purchase date remains the start date if it replaces the processor.
Eligibility is limited to the desktop CPU models listed below. A processor being 13th or 14th Gen by itself does not establish coverage. Intel’s Vmin Shift support page links to its current issue and mitigation guidance; the model-specific terms are in Intel’s boxed and tray processor warranty policy.
Which CPU models are on Intel’s list?

How boxed, tray, and OEM purchases affect support
Boxed processor
For a boxed CPU, Intel generally handles the limited-warranty route. The listed models are subject to the extended terms, with coverage measured from the original purchase date. Keep the purchase information and check Intel’s applicable regional terms when starting a claim.

Tray processor
Tray processors are typically sold through resellers or system integrators rather than as retail-boxed CPUs. Intel’s policy directs owners of eligible tray processors to the place of purchase for service. Contact the seller or integrator to confirm how it handles the claim.
CPU in a prebuilt computer
If the processor came inside an OEM system, the computer maker’s warranty and support process generally applies. Contact the system maker or distributor rather than assuming Intel’s boxed-CPU claim route applies to the installed CPU.

What BIOS update should you install?
Intel recommends using the relevant Intel Default Settings in BIOS and ensuring the system BIOS contains Microcode 0x12F or later. A BIOS update is motherboard-specific: check the board maker’s support page for the latest release, compatibility notes, and update instructions. Intel’s guidance does not mean every board uses the same BIOS version number.
Intel’s August 30, 2024 community update discussed the then-current mitigation guidance and said several other categories were unaffected at that time, including 13th- and 14th-Gen mobile processors, 12th-Gen processors, Xeon processors, Core Ultra Series 1, and 13th- and 14th-Gen desktop Core i5 non-K and Core i3 processors. That statement is dated and is not a substitute for checking the current support information for an exact product.

How to check your coverage and choose a support route
- Identify the exact CPU. Read the full model number from the system’s specifications, processor packaging, or system maker’s documentation. Compare it with Intel’s eligible-model table.
- Establish how you bought it. Determine whether it was a boxed retail CPU, a tray CPU supplied through a seller or integrator, or part of a complete OEM computer.
- Find the original purchase date. Intel’s extension is measured from that date and is capped at five years. A replacement does not restart the clock.
- Use the matching claim channel. For a boxed processor, consult Intel’s warranty process and regional terms; for a tray processor, contact the place of purchase; for an OEM system, contact its maker or distributor.
- Update the system’s BIOS appropriately. Consult the motherboard manufacturer for a BIOS containing Microcode 0x12F or later and apply the relevant Intel Default Settings. Follow the board maker’s update procedure.
Intel’s public policy establishes the eligible models and broad handling routes, but it does not determine an individual claim. Regional terms, proof-of-purchase requirements, and claim outcomes depend on the circumstances; confirm those details with Intel, the system seller, or the OEM that supports your product. Intel’s general boxed-processor terms are available at Intel Boxed Processors Three-Year Limited Warranty Terms and Conditions.
