Intel Core Ultra Series 3 is the company’s Panther Lake laptop platform, announced at CES on January 5, 2026. It combines CPU cores, integrated Intel Arc graphics and an AI NPU, and Intel says it is the first compute platform built on its 18A process. The first consumer laptops became available globally starting January 27, 2026; performance and battery life depend on each laptop’s design and configuration.
What is Intel Core Ultra Series 3?
Core Ultra Series 3 is Intel’s laptop system-on-chip platform, code-named Panther Lake. Intel introduced it at CES 2026 for AI PCs, gaming, content creation, productivity and certified edge systems. The platform brings together processor cores, integrated Arc graphics and a neural processing unit (NPU) for local AI workloads.
Intel describes 18A as the process technology used to build the platform and says it is designed and manufactured in the United States. The name refers to Intel’s manufacturing process, not a standalone CPU model. Series 3 is the product family; Panther Lake is its codename.
What specifications and performance does Intel claim?
Intel’s launch materials list up to 16 CPU cores, 12 Xe-cores for graphics and 50 NPU TOPS on top mobile configurations. Those are maximums for select SKUs, not specifications shared by every Series 3 laptop.

These figures are vendor claims tied to specified reference platforms and workloads. A laptop’s cooling system, power limits, memory, battery capacity, software and display can all change its real-world performance or runtime. No independent hands-on results or retail-product comparisons are established by Intel’s launch figures.
When did Core Ultra Series 3 laptops go on sale?
Intel said pre-orders for the first consumer laptops opened January 6, 2026, with global system availability beginning January 27. More laptop designs were expected through the first half of 2026. Which laptops use Core Ultra Series 3?
Intel’s April 16, 2026 announcement of value systems listed more than 70 designs, including models in these product families:
- Acer Aspire Go
- ASUS Vivobook and ExpertBook
- HP OmniBook 5
- Lenovo ThinkBook, ThinkPad E and IdeaPad
- Samsung Galaxy Book 6
- MSI Modern 14S and Modern 16S
The CES showcase had included about 24 laptops from 15 OEMs, and Intel said more than 200 designs from leading PC partners were expected. These are announcement counts, not a live inventory list. Check the exact processor model on the manufacturer’s or retailer’s product page before comparing or buying: a family name alone does not confirm that a particular configuration has a Series 3 chip. How should you compare Series 3 laptops?
Do not choose by the Series 3 label or maximum platform specifications alone. Compare the actual laptop configurations and intended use:
- Processor tier: Check whether the model uses a Core Ultra X9/X7 or a mainstream Core configuration; the family name does not identify the specific SKU.
- Sustained performance: Look at cooling and power limits, since they affect how long a laptop can maintain demanding CPU or GPU workloads.
- Graphics and AI: Confirm the integrated Arc graphics configuration and NPU TOPS for the exact chip. A platform maximum does not apply to every SKU.
- Everyday fit: Compare RAM, storage, display, battery capacity, ports, wireless features, weight and regional warranty.
What does Series 3 mean for edge systems?
Intel also positions Series 3 processors for certified embedded and industrial deployments. The company describes these systems as supporting extended temperature ranges, deterministic performance and 24×7 reliability, for uses including robotics, smart cities, automation, healthcare and retail. That is a separate deployment context from consumer laptops; buyers evaluating an edge system should confirm the relevant certification and operating specifications for the specific product.
