Intel said on September 3, 2024, that eligible laptops with its Core Ultra 200V processors—code-named Lunar Lake—would begin receiving Copilot+ PC features through a free Windows update in November 2024. The stated conditions were a design featuring the Core Ultra 200V series and the latest version of Windows; the announcement did not cover every Intel PC or confirm delivery to every qualifying laptop.
Which Intel chips qualified?
The announcement applied to systems featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors, the Lunar Lake family. Intel described the condition as a design featuring that series and running the latest version of Windows. It did not say that all Intel-powered computers qualified.
Intel said the series would power more than 80 consumer laptop designs from more than 20 manufacturers. That was a design-pipeline figure, not a list of retail models with confirmed update status. For a particular laptop, check the manufacturer’s support information and Windows Update rather than relying on the processor family alone. Intel’s September 3, 2024 announcement did not provide model-by-model availability.
What did “starting in November” mean?
November meant November 2024: Intel said free updates for qualifying systems were expected to start then. Microsoft separately said new AI experiences for eligible Intel- and AMD-powered devices would begin arriving through free Windows updates starting in November. These were rollout schedules, not confirmation that every feature would arrive at once or that a specific laptop received it.

The announcement does not establish which updates remain available today, the current Windows build required, or the present status of any individual model. Treat it as a dated eligibility and rollout promise, not a current guarantee of availability.
Which Copilot+ features were involved?
Microsoft described Copilot+ PCs as using silicon with more than 40 TOPS and named Recall, Cocreator, and Live Captions as examples of Copilot+ experiences. Intel’s September announcement tied Core Ultra 200V designs to the planned free update. The announcements do not establish that all those experiences became available simultaneously on every Intel laptop. Microsoft’s June 4, 2024 post introduced the Lunar Lake context, while its September 3, 2024 post discussed new AMD and Intel silicon.

How the announcement developed
In May 2024, Intel said Lunar Lake Copilot+ experiences would arrive “via an update when available,” without specifying the November start. Its September announcement gave a more specific schedule for Core Ultra 200V designs. Intel also said it expected to ship more than 40 million AI PC processors in 2024; that was a company forecast, not a verified shipment result or a measure of Copilot+ update adoption. Intel’s May 20, 2024 Lunar Lake announcement also referred to more than 80 laptop designs across more than 20 OEMs.
Intel executive Michelle Johnston Holthaus characterized the planned offering as its “most competitive joint client hardware and software offering in our history.” That is Intel’s promotional assessment, not an independently established comparison.

What to check before buying or troubleshooting
- Confirm the exact processor family and model in the laptop’s specifications; the announcement named Core Ultra 200V, not Intel processors generally.
- Check the manufacturer’s support page for the specific laptop and its Windows and Copilot+ eligibility.
- Check Windows Update and the device maker’s instructions for rollout and feature status. A processor-family match alone does not establish that a particular experience is installed or available.
- Assess ordinary laptop requirements—such as price, battery life, display, and ports—separately. The announcements provide no model-level product comparisons or recommendations.
