Infineon has extended its AURIX TC3x automotive microcontroller family with a reported 400-MHz performance class. Embedded.com attributes the change to Infineon and says the new option can provide up to one-third higher CPU frequency than earlier TC3x variants. That is a clock-speed comparison—not evidence that an application will run one-third faster.

What changes with the 400-MHz TC3x option?

The reported change is a higher-frequency performance class within the existing TC3x family, not a newly named AURIX generation. Infineon’s portfolio includes several TC3x subfamilies, but the report does not identify which exact orderable part numbers will offer the 400-MHz option.

Infineon’s portfolio page lists TC32xLP, TC33x, TC35xTA, TC36xDP, TC37x, TC38x, and TC39x within the TC3x family. That family listing does not establish that every listed subfamily—or any particular part number—has a 400-MHz variant. See Infineon’s AURIX TC3x portfolio.

What does a higher clock frequency mean for performance?

A CPU clock rate describes how many clock cycles the processor can run each second. Embedded.com reports Infineon’s claim of up to one-third higher CPU frequency compared with earlier TC3x variants, but supplies no benchmark workload or measurement methodology. Clock frequency alone does not show how much faster a vehicle-control task, diagnostic routine, or communications workload will complete. Actual application performance depends on the code, memory and peripheral behavior, system configuration, and real-time requirements.

The report presents the added frequency as headroom for automotive real-time processing, including control algorithms, diagnostics, and communications. It names engine management, chassis control, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as relevant application areas. These are described as intended uses; the report does not provide independent application tests.

Does the 400-MHz option preserve existing designs?

The report says the higher-frequency option retains the established TC3x architecture and could allow development teams to reuse hardware designs, software frameworks, and functional-safety concepts. Treat that as a continuity claim, not a compatibility guarantee. Before planning a migration, confirm that the exact target part supports the required board, software, peripherals, and safety case; a shared family name does not prove drop-in compatibility.

When will the variants be available?

Embedded.com reported that the first 400-MHz variants were scheduled to enter production in 2026. The report does not name the parts or confirm current orderability, inventory, or delivery timing. Production timing is not the same as a confirmed orderable product, so check Infineon or an authorized distributor for the exact device and current status.

What should engineers verify before choosing a TC3x device?

  • Exact part number and status: Identify the specific MCU and confirm that it can be ordered; the 400-MHz report does not specify orderable variants.
  • Application performance: Evaluate the target workload on the intended configuration instead of translating a clock-frequency increase directly into throughput.
  • System compatibility: Check board design, software frameworks, peripherals, and functional-safety documentation for the selected part.
  • Development support: Confirm that the evaluation or development kit supports the exact MCU variant. A general AURIX TC3x kit listing does not establish support for a newly reported 400-MHz part.

The 400-MHz details here come from an Embedded.com report attributing the information to Infineon; the official portfolio page establishes the broad TC3x family structure, not the reported frequency claim or live availability. The report provides no power figures, application benchmarks, or exact new part numbers.
