You can use OBS to send a Malayalam nursery-rhyme program to YouTube Live, but a single OBS broadcast is not a dependable way to guarantee both uninterrupted 24/7 playback and a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Before going live, confirm your channel is eligible, clear the rights to every song and visual, set the audience accurately if the program is for children, and arrange local recording and monitoring.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube states that streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before preparing the event.
- A computer that can run OBS, your prepared video and audio, and an internet connection suitable for sending the broadcast. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required; a microphone or camera is not necessary if your program consists entirely of prepared animation and audio.
- Permission to use every part of the program: the lyrics or composition, the particular arrangement, the sound recording, and any artwork or animation.
- A plan for monitoring the stream and keeping a local recording. Do not rely on YouTube’s archive as the only copy.
YouTube supports encoder-based live streams. Its current guidance does not establish current OBS menu names, a universal bitrate, keyframe interval, or reconnect setting, so those values should not be guessed: they depend on the output you are sending, your computer, and your connection. Use current OBS and YouTube guidance when setting those controls.

Choose a schedule that fits YouTube’s archive limits
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. That makes one uninterrupted 24-hour event a poor choice if a complete replay matters. Even with shorter sessions, YouTube does not guarantee gap-free handoffs between broadcasts.
| Approach | What it means | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One uninterrupted broadcast | Keep the same live event running toward a 24-hour goal. | Less restart scheduling, but an event longer than 12 hours may not be captured; continuous uptime is not guaranteed. |
| Planned shorter sessions with local recording | Schedule and restart broadcasts so each session stays below 12 hours, while recording a local copy. | More scheduling and monitoring, but better aligned with YouTube’s stated archive guidance and recommendation to check local files. |
If uninterrupted playback is more important than having a complete YouTube replay, decide that trade-off before launch. If the archive matters, use shorter sessions and verify the local files rather than assuming either YouTube or OBS has saved a usable copy.

Prepare the nursery-rhyme program and rights
Clear every layer of the material
A familiar or traditional melody does not automatically clear a modern arrangement, recording, or animation. Check the rights for the specific lyrics or composition, arrangement, recording, and visuals you plan to broadcast and archive. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators warrant that they have the necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights and public-performance rights where applicable. You must also comply with applicable local requirements; this article does not determine which Indian permissions or exemptions apply to a particular song.
Account for Content ID during the live broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can lead to a warning and placeholder, interruption, or termination if the material remains in the stream. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: if you have permission to use matched content, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Material described as “free” can still trigger a match, so verify the actual rights and Content ID handling rather than relying on that label.
Set the audience honestly
If the stream is directed to children, mark it Made for Kids in YouTube’s audience controls. YouTube may override an inaccurate audience choice. Made for Kids limits features including live chat, comments, notifications, personalized ads, Super Chat, and Super Stickers; other features, such as saving content to playlists, channel memberships, or merchandise on the content, are also restricted. Do not select a different audience setting to regain those features.
Set up YouTube Live and OBS
- Confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio. Verify the channel, check that there is no live-stream restriction within the preceding 90 days, and confirm that you meet YouTube’s stated minimum age requirement of 16.
- Create or schedule the event in Live Control Room. Choose the encoder route and enter the event details and audience setting. For a scheduled encoder event, YouTube recommends beginning setup at least two hours ahead of the start time so you can check the feed before viewers arrive.
- Prepare the OBS scene. Add the prepared video and audio as sources in a scene. For a repeating program, configure the media source to repeat using the available controls in your installed OBS version, and preview the scene to make sure the picture fills the intended frame and the audio is present. Menu labels can vary by version; do not assume an old tutorial matches your installation.
- Set the output to match the material and connection. Choose a resolution and frame rate that suit the prepared video, and an encoder/output bitrate your computer and upload connection can sustain. Use current recommendations for the exact YouTube ingest format and OBS version; there is no universal value established here. Avoid upscaling low-resolution source video merely to select a larger output setting.
- Protect the stream key. Copy the event’s stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or send it to someone you do not trust. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls before continuing.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the intended picture and sound before starting the public event. Listen for clipping, silence, unexpected source changes, or audio/video mismatch and check that the video is not cropped.
- Start recording locally and verify it. Use OBS’s local recording capability if you need a backup. Confirm that the file is growing during the broadcast and, after the session, open it and check that it plays correctly. YouTube recommends monitoring local archive file growth and integrity.
- Monitor the broadcast and plan restarts. Keep an operator available to watch the YouTube preview and OBS status, check audio and video quality, and respond if the encoder or YouTube connection drops. For the archive-conscious schedule, end and restart before a session exceeds 12 hours; do not promise a seamless transition.
- Choose the archive visibility. After the event, use YouTube Studio’s normal controls to decide whether the replay should be public, unlisted, or private, based on your distribution plan.
Tune and troubleshoot the stream
- YouTube is not receiving a signal: Confirm OBS is sending to the intended event, that the stream key was copied correctly, and that the encoder is running. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- The preview is black or the wrong scene appears: Check that the intended scene is active, its video source is enabled and visible, and the media file is available to the computer. Preview again before making the event public.
- There is no sound or the wrong sound: Check that the intended audio source is included and active, then listen to the preview. Also check for an accidental second copy of the audio that could cause echo.
- The stream looks unstable or drops: Check OBS’s connection/encoding status and whether the computer or upload connection is under load. Reduce the output demands using current OBS and YouTube guidance, then test the revised setup before relying on it for a long session. No fixed upload-speed target or reconnect setting is established here.
- The event is interrupted by a copyright match: Stop using the matched material unless you have confirmed permission and the rights holder has handled any needed Content ID allowlisting. A claim of a license does not itself ensure the live event will continue.
- The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use the local recording as the backup if it is intact; for future broadcasts, divide the program into shorter planned sessions and check the local files.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is an alternative for keeping a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Its cloud service loops the upload, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It does not broadcast from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo runs the uploaded program from the cloud.
- One flat price per slot covers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. The first day is free with no card, so you can start a StreamNeo trial.
