To loop a prerecorded retro gaming video on YouTube Live from India, put a video file you have the rights to stream into an OBS Studio Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream with its stream key, and start the broadcast. Before you begin, confirm your channel is eligible and that you have rights to the game footage and audio; looping does not make copyrighted material safe or guarantee monetization.
Before you start: check eligibility and rights
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube lists a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer age of at least 16 among its live-streaming prerequisites. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before preparing a long stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Use footage and audio you are allowed to stream
Use a recording and soundtrack for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the rights needed to use live content on Google services. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content; a match can prompt a warning, a placeholder, an interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Do not assume that old gameplay is public domain, that owning a game copy gives you streaming rights, or that a loop is automatically fair use. These questions depend on the game, rights holder, intended use, and applicable law. Where needed, seek permission that covers the footage, audio, territory, and commercial use.

Prepare the video and OBS scene
- Choose the recording. Keep the original video file on the computer running OBS. Pick an aspect ratio that suits the footage and how you want it to appear on YouTube. Make sure its audio is also cleared for streaming.
- Create a scene in OBS Studio. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the local video file. OBS Media Source is documented for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS restarts the file when playback reaches its end. The option and behavior are described in the OBS Project Media Sources guide.
- Check the scene before going live. Preview playback and listen for audio. Confirm the video is framed as intended and that it plays through to the point where it should restart. OBS and YouTube’s cited setup guidance do not establish a minimum computer specification for this workflow, so actual capability depends on your machine and stream settings.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live and start the loop
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream. Follow the current Studio flow for the broadcast details.
- Connect the encoder. Use OBS’s YouTube connection flow, or copy the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the server URL and stream key workflow.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, include it in a screenshot, or share it with someone who should not be able to broadcast to your stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start OBS streaming. Watch the incoming preview and status in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Start or confirm the YouTube broadcast as the current Studio flow requires; sending video from OBS and making the broadcast public are related but distinct actions.
- Verify the loop and audio on YouTube. Confirm that the live preview is clear, audio is present, and OBS restarts the file after it ends. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive guidance is not a promise of an uninterrupted, indefinite livestream. Monitor longer sessions and check current account and stream limits.
What to expect from monetization
YouTube says monetization of game footage depends on commercial-use rights granted by game publishers. Its guidance cautions that simply showing gameplay, or using software for extended periods, may not qualify without appropriate rights and sufficiently related instructional or educational commentary. A repeated prerecorded loop should not be treated as guaranteed to qualify for ads or watch-hour credit. See YouTube’s video game and software content guidance.
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features, subject to eligibility. For creators in India, joining the YouTube Partner Programme and meeting each feature’s requirements matters; availability is not established for every channel. Check the features shown in your own Studio account and consult YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and its India earnings guidance.

Troubleshooting common problems
- The video stops at the end. Reopen the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled for the correct source.
- YouTube receives no video. Check that OBS is streaming to the intended YouTube broadcast and that the server URL and stream key match the details in Studio. Keep the key private; replace it if it was exposed.
- The preview appears, but the broadcast is not live. Check Live Control Room and complete the start or confirmation step required by the current YouTube Studio flow.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced by a warning or placeholder. YouTube may have detected third-party material. Review the rights for both game footage and audio. If you have a license, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
- You cannot start a live stream. Check channel verification, whether a live-stream restriction applies from the past 90 days, and the age requirement in YouTube Studio.
- The session is longer than expected or the archive is missing. YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. Do not rely on that note as evidence of indefinite streaming or archiving; monitor the session and confirm current limits.
