That makes it easy to spot something on your phone or computer and find it later on the TV. It is a useful distinction, not proof that Google TV is universally better.
Google’s watchlist travels between your TV, phone, and Search
Google describes a single watchlist for movies and shows from streaming providers. Add a title while browsing Google TV, then find the list in the Google TV app or Google Search; the list syncs across those surfaces. Accessing or editing it requires signing in to a Google Account. App and content availability varies by country.
The practical benefit is continuity: you do not have to rely on remembering a title or limiting your shortlist to the TV interface. Google also says its discovery experience can bring recommendations and content from services such as YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ into one place, subject to availability. How that compares with Fire TV
A Fire Stick is not limited to showing Prime Video. Amazon’s announcement of a redesigned Fire TV interface in 2026 says it can surface titles across the apps a customer uses while browsing. The redesign also raises the number of apps that can be pinned on the home screen from six to 20 and adds browsing and watchlist management to the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon also describes Alexa+ discovery features. These are Amazon’s announced capabilities; availability may depend on device and region, so check whether the changes have reached your particular Fire TV. That narrows Google’s edge: it is the clearly documented link from a streaming watchlist to Google Search, alongside TV and mobile access. Amazon also offers cross-app discovery and mobile watchlist tools, so it would be inaccurate to describe those ideas as exclusive to Google or to claim a measured usability win.

Choose based on where you actually save titles and which apps work in your region and on your device. The official product pages describe features, not a controlled head-to-head test of speed, ease of use, or recommendation quality.

Accounts, profiles, and availability can change the experience
Google says recommendations may reflect linked streaming services and prior interactions, including watchlist contents, entertainment searches, purchases, and viewing activity. If you use Basic Mode on a supported Google TV device, features that require Google sign-in are unavailable; that mode also excludes Play Library access, app search and installation, app genre clusters, and Assistant content search. Kids profiles are available only on some devices and in some regions. Details are in Google TV’s profile and personalization help.
Google also lists free live channels through Google TV Freeplay, Tubi, Pluto, and other services, but its feature page says live TV availability is US-only and some content requires subscriptions. Do not assume a service or feature shown in a platform description is available in every country.

Google TV is a platform, not one particular stick
Google TV runs on different devices, so a platform comparison is not automatically a comparison between two specific streaming sticks. Google’s current support page lists the Google TV Streamer (4K), an HDMI-connected box offering up to 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. Google recommends a 4K television for the best experience. An Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 certified cable is sold separately and is specified for optimal performance with the Streamer; it is not a general requirement for every Google TV setup. Fire TV hardware also includes multiple device types and model years, so do not assume a newly announced interface feature is available on every older Fire Stick. Amazon’s Fire TV device comparison lists its product range.
