The Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max pairs a three-camera system built into the phone with support for a separate Ruiying Z10 camera module on the Collector’s Edition. That distinction matters: the detachable module is not reported as a standard feature in every Mate 90 Pro Max box. Huawei unveiled the Mate 90 series in China, according to launch reports published on 1 October 2026; international availability has not been established.
What is unusual about the Mate 90 Pro Max camera setup?
There are two different camera systems to consider. The phone itself has three rear cameras. Separately, the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition supports the Ruiying Z10, an external camera module with its own reported sensor and zoom lens. The module is an add-on, not a fourth built-in phone camera.
That makes the key choice less about a simple camera count and more about configuration: use the handset’s integrated cameras, or choose the China-market Collector’s Edition Pro Camera Kit to add the detachable module. GSMArena’s launch report describes the attachment and kit; it does not establish that the module is included with every edition. GSMArena’s 1 October 2026 report and 9to5Google’s report from the same date are launch coverage, not independent camera tests.

| Built-in camera | Reported specification |
|---|---|
| Main | 50MP, optical image stabilization (OIS), and continuous variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0 |
| Periscope telephoto | 200MP, OIS, and 4x optical zoom |
| Ultrawide | 40MP |
The report also specifies a third-generation red maple color sensor. These details describe reported components, not measured results: the cited coverage does not establish how the cameras perform in real scenes, how quickly they focus, or how their images compare with rival phones.
What the variable aperture means
The main camera’s reported f/1.4–f/4.0 variable aperture means its aperture can change across that range. The specification alone does not show how effectively the phone controls exposure or depth of field in practice; those questions require real-world testing.

What does the Ruiying Z10 module add?
The Ruiying Z10 is a detachable camera module supported by the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition. Its reported specifications are a 1-inch RYYB sensor, a 24–240mm focal range, 10x continuous optical zoom, and an f/2.0–f/4.5 aperture. These figures are for the external module, not the handset’s built-in periscope camera.
9to5Google reproduces translated Huawei product statements describing the module’s optical system and its HyperClick mount. The translated statement says the mount connects to the phone with a click and is intended to enable instant sharing after shooting. These are translations reproduced by the outlet, not independently verified official English wording; the reports do not provide independent testing of the mount or module’s image quality. 9to5Google’s coverage includes the translated statements.

On the reported specifications, the kit is the option for someone who specifically wants the detachable camera module and its longer continuous zoom range. The standard handset already has a built-in telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom. The available launch coverage does not support a verdict that one setup produces better photos than the other.
