If html.to.design will not import a website in India, first identify which step is failing: opening Figma, reaching the target site, capturing it, handing off a capture, or importing a file. The official guidance reviewed describes general access, file, and network troubleshooting; it does not establish an India-specific block or fix. Use the steps below to narrow down the cause rather than assuming your location is responsible.
First identify where the import fails
Check each stage separately. Does Figma open normally? Does the target website open in the same browser? Does a browser-extension capture complete? Does that capture reach the plugin? Does the error occur only after choosing a local file? The failing stage helps distinguish a target-site access problem from an extension handoff, file-format, or Figma network issue.
- If the target website itself will not open in your browser, investigate access to that site first.
- If the site opens but a public-page import fails, retry through the plugin’s Web tab.
- If the page requires sign-in or a particular session, capture it from the browser extension.
- If only local-file imports fail, check the file type, ZIP size, and linked assets.
- If Figma reports blocked actions or broader connection trouble, check Figma’s Network settings and ask your administrator about managed network rules.
Import a public website through the Web tab
For a public page with an open URL, paste the URL into the html.to.design plugin’s Web tab and click Import. This is the documented route for importing a page from the web. html.to.design: Import any page from the Web
- Open the page in a normal browser tab and confirm that the URL loads.
- Open the html.to.design plugin in Figma and select the Web tab.
- Paste the page URL and click Import.
- If it fails, note the exact error and whether the same URL still opens in your browser. That comparison helps separate a plugin/Figma problem from a site-access problem.
For login-only or session-specific pages, capture in the browser
A page behind a login, available only on a private network, or dependent on a particular signed-in session may not be reachable through the ordinary public-URL import. Sign in and use the html.to.design browser extension to capture the page in that browser context. You can send the capture to the plugin or save it as a local .h2d file and upload it through the plugin’s Extension tab. The vendor says the local .h2d route keeps the captured file on your computer rather than sending it to its servers. See the browser-extension instructions and the private-webpage instructions.

- Open the page and sign in, if required.
- Open the html.to.design browser extension and choose the needed viewport or theme.
- Capture the page.
- Send the capture to the plugin, or save it as
.h2dand import it using the plugin’s Extension tab.
Check local file formats and website assets
When using the plugin’s File tab, check both the file extension and the resources the page depends on. Supported formats include .h2d, .html/.htm, webpage ZIP, Google Stitch ZIP, .eml/.emlx/.msg, and .mhtml/.mht. ZIP files should be smaller than 32 MB. See html.to.design’s local-file instructions.
HTML imports with missing images, CSS, or JavaScript
An HTML file can refer to images, stylesheets, or scripts stored elsewhere. Confirm that those files exist and that the importer can access them; external resources that are missing or inaccessible may not be retrieved. If the local HTML import is incomplete because of its dependencies, capture the rendered page with the browser extension instead. The documentation’s guidance is at Import local files.

ZIP imports
Confirm the ZIP is one of the supported webpage or Google Stitch ZIP types and is under 32 MB. If the archive is too large, reduce its contents or use the browser-extension capture route where appropriate.

Check Figma network settings if Figma actions are blocked
If Figma itself shows network symptoms or blocks the import action, use the Network settings view to identify blocked actions. Figma says to select View settings in an error message to open the Network settings modal. Its general guidance also describes network domains to allowlist and symptoms such as Figma failing to load or file/team data not appearing when WebSocket traffic is blocked. On a managed connection, ask your organization’s administrator to review proxy, firewall, VPN, and domain allowlist configuration. Do not bypass organizational controls. For a desktop connection error, Figma also suggests trying its browser app or asking IT to unblock port 443. See Figma: Connection or server error 403.

What the India-specific evidence does—and does not—show
The reviewed official documentation does not say that India is blocked, identify a country-specific service limitation, or prescribe a special India workaround. Figma’s support material describes general network, proxy, firewall, and VPN conditions that can affect access, but it does not establish that any one of them is affecting a particular user in India. Diagnose from the step that fails and the error shown, not from location alone.
