HP Envy x360: At First Glance

When it comes to performance and design, the HP Envy x360 has a lot to offer. The Envy brand has traditionally been HP’s midrange option – it’s a step up from the affordable Pavilion but a step down from the premium Spectre.

Moreover, the HP Envy x360 is an ultra-thin slice of gorgeous all-metal goodness. What’s more, it’s very portable and has a nimble performance that I’ve come to appreciate.

At first glance, HP Envy’s design will be recognizable to HP users. From the HP Envy 13 through the HP ZBook Studio laptops, the angular tight and strong design is now in use.

When it comes to price, the HP Envy x360 starts at $799.00 as of the time of writing this review.

Is it worth the money to buy this laptop? Let find out in the sections below.

HP Envy x360: Design, Dimension and Weight

HP Envy x360 is available in two models: ENVY x360 13 and ENVY x360 15. Both models are similar, however, they are distinct in terms of weight and size.

The HP Envy x360 is a convertible PC with 360-degree rotating hinges. The laptop’s ultra-thin charcoal gray slate design is one of my faves since it seems like it’s poised for heroic action.

The Envy x360’s aluminum frame offers a premium feel similar to the MacBook Air or other high-end all-metal laptops. It also has a Nightfall Black finish, which is a little more fascinating than black but a little more attractive than brown.

Slim display bezels on the HP Envy x360 bring your attention to the screen while keeping the frame compact. The screen-to-body ratio of the HP Envy is 88 percent.

The laptop has some beautiful elements, such as the smooth HP logo on the lid and appealing speaker grilles beneath. The design is brought together by a stamp of Envy on the hinge and some aggressive vents on the spine.

As I hinted earlier, the HP Envy x360 is a convertible and touch-screen PC. As a result, it can be used with or without the Type Cover.

The hinges on the Envy x360 produced substantial resistance when opened. This is a good sign of well-built hinges – which you want in a convertible laptop.

When you open the lid, your eyes are drawn to the gorgeous lighted Chiclet-style keyboard.

Furthermore, there are two Bang & Olufsen tuned speakers on either side of the keyboard, and below the keyboard is a large touchpad. To the right of the ALT key is the fingerprint reader.

A Webcam is located directly above the laptop’s screen and can be used to snap pictures, make video calls, and so on. The webcam is an HP wide vision HD camera with a dual array integrated digital microphone.

Moving on to ports, the HP Envy x360 comes with a decent number of ports. On the right side of the laptop, you have a USB-Type A port, an SD card slot, and an AC power port.

On the left side of the laptop, there is another USB-A port, an HDMI port, a USB-C port, and a 3.5 audio jack. Unfortunately, the laptop lacks both an Ethernet port and a Thunderbolt port.

The HP Envy x360 also includes security and privacy features, such as Windows Hello facial recognition. It also has an infrared webcam and a proximity sensor, which may be used to lock out intruders and wake up when the user returns.

A fingerprint scanner is included for added security, as well as a shutter button to turn off the webcam.

In terms of size and weight, the HP Envy x360 13 is 307.34 x 195.58 x 17.78 mm and weighs 1315g. The HP Envy x360 15 is, on the other hand, fairly large, weighing 2040g and measures 359 x 246 x 18.9 mm.

Interestingly, both the HP Envy x360 models are smaller and lighter than the Dell G5 15. The Dell G5 15 measures 364.3 x 273.4 x 23.7 mm and weighs 2680g.

Finally, I’ll give the HP Envy x360 a nine out of ten for the overall design. This is due to its excellent design and portability.

HP Envy x360: Processor (CPU) Performance

The HP Envy x360 13 comes with a 4-core AMD Ryzen 5 processor. The processor then has a base frequency of 2 GHz (can boost up to 3.6 GHz), with a 6 MB cache.

The HP Envy x360 15 model, on the other hand, comes with an Intel Core i7 processor. Powered by an 8 MB cache, the processor has a base frequency of 1.8 GHz that may be boosted to 4.0 GHz.

The processors can handle numerous operations at once, such as opening multiple browser tabs, working on Excel, and watching movies, without slowing down.

The HP Envy x360 15 is the model I reviewed, and it has an Intel Core i7 processor. I ran a Geekbench 5 test to determine the processor’s performance.

The HP Envy x360 15 received 4717 points as a result of the test. Unfortunately, it falls short of the Acer Swift 3, which received 4953 points.

Finally, the laptop’s performance falls short of that of the Acer Swift 3. It did, however, outperform other computers in the same class.

As a result, I’m going to give the HP Envy x360 an eight for processor performance.

HP Envy x360: Memory (RAM) Performance

The HP Envy x360 13 supports up to 8 GB of RAM (memory). Unfortunately, because the memory is soldered directly to the computer’s motherboard, you won’t be able to upgrade it.

On the other hand, you can upgrade the RAM in HP Envy x360 15 to up to 16 GB. This means you can significantly increase the laptop’s multitasking capabilities.

The HP Envy x360 15 I reviewed had 16 GB of RAM, which made it an excellent multitasker.

To test its multitasking abilities, I had up to ten 40 chrome tabs open.

Apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Mail, and others were running in the browser tabs. Despite the fact that these activities were taking place at the same time, the laptop ran smoothly without lagging or stuttering.

Furthermore, I also conducted a PCMark 10 test to see how well the laptop’s RAM performed. In the test, the laptop earned a 4796-point score.

The laptop was once again outperformed by the Acer Swift 3, which got 4874 points.

I recommend the HP Envy x360 15′ model after comparing the features and performances of the 13′′ and 15′′ models. Finally, I’ll give the HP Envy x360 an eight out of ten.

HP Envy x360: Storage Options and Performance

The HP Envy x360 comes with a 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD (Solid State Drive). Moreover, An SSD outperforms a regular hard drive(HDD) in terms of performance.

The SSD also comes with the benefit of not crashing. SSDs do not crash since they do not contain mechanical elements such as spinning heads, as do HDDs.

Another positive aspect of this laptop is its microSD expansion slot. You may expand the laptop’s storage capacity by purchasing a microSD card of up to 512 GB.

The model I reviewed came with a 256 GB SSD. For the most part, 256 GB should be sufficient for most users.

I conducted a CrystalDiskMark benchmark test to determine the laptop’s storage transfer speed, and the laptop did not disappoint.

The HP Envy x360 achieved a sequential transfer speed of 570.5 MBps while transferring 25GB of mixed media during the test. The HP Envy x360’s file transfer speed is well behind the premium laptop average of 635.3MBps.

The Surface Pro 7+’s 256GB SSD, on the other hand, has a faster transfer rate of 348.3 MBps.

Overall, the storage transfer speed of this laptop is slightly below average. As a result, it receives a seven in this storage performance evaluation.

HP Envy x360: Graphics Card Performance

The standard graphics card in most computers is enough for an ordinary computer user. However, if you are a gamer, you should pay special attention to this section.

The HP Envy x360 13′ model ships with AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics as standard. The HP Envy x360 15′ model, on the other hand, includes Intel UHD Graphics 620.

Regrettably, none of the graphics cards has a dedicated VRAM. This means that the graphics card uses the same internal memory as the CPU.

The implication is that you should not expect these GPUs to play top AAA games at high settings. More on this later in this section.

Furthermore, The AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics has a base frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1100 MHz. While the Intel UHD Graphics Card also has a base frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1150 MHz.

The HP Envy x360 15′ model I reviewed came with an Intel UHD Graphics card. As I hinted earlier, this GPU is only good for casual games.

To give you some ideas, the laptop played Fortnite at around 45 FPS with the resolution set to 720p. Additionally, you can get games like Far Cry 3 to play at between 40-50 FPS at a resolution of 720p

Unfortunately, with Intel UHD GPU, HP Envy x360 15″ can only play modern games like Rise of the Tomb Raiderand and The Witcher 3 at much lower resolution. This will obviously have a negative impact on the experience of these games.

On the brighter side, the laptop performed well in some other games like playing Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Gathering Storm in 1080p. Additionally, the laptop averaged 35 frames per second, which is higher than the 28-fps premium laptop average.

Finally, the HP Envy x360 receives an eight in this review because of its superb graphics card and performance.

HP Envy x360: Battery Life &and Performance

The HP Envy x360 comes with a 3-cell 52.5 WH Li-Ion battery in both models. The Laptop is capable of running for an entire workday after fully charged.

I performed a battery test with both the old and new versions of the Microsoft Edge browser. The Envy x360 lasted an impressive 11 hours and 52 minutes while continuously browsing at 150 nits of brightness on the older browser.

However, it did not perform as well on the new browser. On the current version of the Microsoft Edge browser, it lasted barely 10 hours and 45 minutes.

In comparison, the HP Envy x360 outlasted the Surface Pro 7+, which lasted 8 hours and 49 minutes.

As a result, I rate the HP Envy x360 battery a nine out of 10 for its superb battery performance.
