A Yamaha remote-control code programs the receiver’s remote to operate a compatible TV, player, cable box, or other external component. It does not pair that component with the receiver over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The correct code and button sequence depend on the exact receiver and remote, so identify your Yamaha model and the device you want to control before starting.
First, identify what “pairing” means in your case
Yamaha remote-code registration is for controlling an external component with the Yamaha remote. On the RX-V871, for example, a code is assigned to an input selection key; selecting that input also selects the control area for that device. This is not the same as connecting a device to the receiver through Bluetooth, joining Wi-Fi, or setting up HDMI-CEC. Those tasks have separate procedures and should be handled using the manual for the exact receiver model. See the RX-V871 Owner’s Manual.
- You want the Yamaha remote to control a device: find the model-specific remote-code list and registration instructions.
- You want a phone, speaker, or other device connected to the receiver: look for the appropriate Bluetooth, network, or HDMI-CEC setup instructions instead.
Find the right manual and code list
- Read the receiver model number. Check the front or rear product label, or the receiver’s documentation. Do not rely on a similar-looking model name.
- Open Yamaha’s U.S. manual library. Locate the exact model’s owner manual and any separate remote-control-code document listed for it.
- Check the model’s download page. For example, Yamaha’s RX-V475 downloads page lists a code document for the RX-V475/RX-V575 family.
- Identify the component category and manufacturer. Use the code list for the target device, such as a TV or player, and follow the manual’s registration sequence exactly.
Yamaha’s U.S. documentation does not establish one code or one procedure that applies to every receiver generation, region, and remote. The model-specific manual is the authority for your setup.
Why the button sequence depends on the receiver
Yamaha’s RX-V365 and RX-V565 manuals illustrate why it is risky to follow a generic online sequence: both register external-component codes, but their instructions and success indicators differ.

These are model-specific examples, not interchangeable instructions. Consult the RX-V365 Owner’s Manual or RX-V565 Owner’s Manual only if you have that receiver; otherwise, use your own model’s manual.
Check the result and troubleshoot by symptom
The receiver reports that code registration failed
- Verify that you used the code list for the target component category and the correct manufacturer.
- If the manual lists several codes for that manufacturer, test them as directed rather than assuming the first will work.
- Repeat the sequence in the exact order shown in your model’s manual. An indicator or display message from another Yamaha model may not apply to yours.
Registration succeeds, but some buttons do not work
- Confirm that the remote is controlling the correct input or control area. On the RX-V871, component codes are associated with input selection keys.
- Check whether the target component supports the particular function you are trying to use. The RX-V565 manual notes that external-component keys require corresponding controls on the target as well as a registered code.
The device connects to the receiver, but the remote code does not help
That is a different setup path. A registered component code is not evidence that Bluetooth pairing, Wi-Fi connection, or HDMI-CEC is configured. Use the relevant section of the exact receiver manual.

If the original remote is missing or faulty
A replacement may be an option, but compatibility should be checked against the exact receiver model and the functions you need. The Yamaha manuals and download pages cited here do not verify a particular third-party replacement remote, so do not assume that a remote advertised as “for Yamaha” supports every receiver or every button.
