The dataset contains 198 tour-group rules from 36 countries, according to its authors at FP Intern. They started with 228 candidates, checked quoted rule text against official sources, and retained records that met their screening criteria. The three categories distinguish headset requirements from loudspeaker bans and restrictions on outside guides—rules that are not interchangeable. The authors’ account is the evidence for the method and counts; it is not an independent audit of every venue rule.
How the authors screened candidate rules
FP Intern describes a two-pass process. An initial survey found 228 candidate rules, but the authors judged that list too unreliable to publish as-is: records might depend on travel blogs, outdated text, or incorrect information.
In the second pass, the authors checked each candidate’s quoted sentence against an official source, such as the institution’s website, a PDF, or an archived page. If they could not locate the sentence in the official text, they marked the record “not found.” A build script then retained confirmed or changed records only if they also met the authors’ requirements for class, status, an HTTPS source, and a nonempty quote. They report that 197 records passed that filter, with one Turkish rule from Istanbul’s National Palaces documented separately, making 198 records in total across 36 countries. These are the authors’ reported figures, not independently recalculated results. Read the authors’ account.
The account also says 38 rules took effect in 2024 or later, and one additional Bruges canal-boat rule is reported as starting in 2029. Those dates are part of the authors’ dataset report, not confirmation that each rule remains current.

What the three rule classes mean
The authors separate three kinds of written restriction. Their reported totals add up to 198:
| Class | Meaning in the dataset | Reported records |
|---|---|---|
| A | Headsets or a whisper system are required for guided groups. | 66 |
| B | Amplification is prohibited, but headsets are not made mandatory by that rule. | 75 |
| C | Indoor narration is restricted to the venue’s own guides or audio guides. | 57 |
Class B is deliberately distinct from Class A: a ban on loudspeakers does not, by itself, prove that a group must use headsets. Class C is different again; its restriction concerns who may guide indoors, rather than simply which audio device a group may use.

How to read a record’s fields
Threshold and guide count
The threshold field records the smallest group size to which a numeric rule applies. For example, wording that applies to “more than 8” people is stored as a threshold of 9. The authors report thresholds ranging from 3 to 26, with 7 and 11 most common. An empty threshold means, in their interpretation, that the rule applies to every group.
A separate field records whether the guide counts toward the group size: true, false, or empty. Empty means the rule text does not specify. The authors say they left such cases unspecified rather than infer an answer.

- 【PRETTY & STRONG】- Devices are made in a good-looking design, strong and compact build. Each receiver weighs 54 gram. Only one 8510T transmitter can work in the same group / channel. Case won't break easily. Each device is packaged with a bubble out bag. This is one way communication system. There can only be one transmitter in the same group / same channel.
- 【WIDE APPLICATION】- Wireless one way audio communication system is specifically designed for tour groups, factory tours, training, conferences, event, simultaneous interpretation and trade shows. Each group member can listen to the speaker clearly and quietly. Speaker can whisper to each listener. 2 microphones of head microphone and straight plug-in small microphones are provided for different purposes. This is also very helpful for people with hearing aid.
- 【LONG WORKING RANGE】- The working range between the transmitter and receivers is 150-180 meters / 165-200 yard in sight. No matter it is a small tour group or large conference, these devices will work in a satisfactory way. Devices contains 50 channels, which ensures different groups won't interfere with each other in the same area. The working frequency is UHF 902-928 MHz, most suitable to be used in North America.
- 【LONG WORKING TIME】- Each receiver is with a high capacity rechargeable lithium battery of 1000 mAh. The transmitter can work 12 hours continuously after full charge. The receiver can work 15 hours continuously after full charge. This will save a lot of trouble of recharging. One 15 slots charger is also included in the package. It will take 3 hours for full charge. When the devices are being charged, the light will turn red. When they are fully charged, the light will turn blue.
- 【EASY OPERATION】- When the transmitter and receivers are in the same channel, receivers can hear the transmitter. If need to change to another channel, just press UP or DOWN button to change the channel. Move the power button to LOCK the device. When the device is locked, channel can not be changed. Receiver volume can be changed by VOL+ or VOL- button anytime. These are basically all the main operations.
Device policy
Device-policy values include own-allowed, unspecified, institution-only, app-banned, phone-banned, and headphones-banned. The authors report 132 of 198 records as unspecified and 39 as explicitly allowing a group’s own system. “Unspecified” means the source does not establish whose equipment is allowed; it is not permission to bring any device.
Quote and source
Each record is described as carrying the original-language sentence and a link to an official source, so readers can check the wording in context. The article notes that rights to quoted text remain with the issuing body. Before relying on a rule, open the linked official source and confirm that its wording and status still apply to your visit.

Where the data is available
The authors describe CSV and JSONL versions and provide a pandas example for loading the CSV. They say the same JSON fact packs feed the human-readable Your Next Tours page, a Hugging Face dataset, and a Kaggle dataset. In the human-readable list, each row’s page URL points to an anchor for that record. Check the authors’ article for the dataset links and loading example: FP Intern’s account on DEV Community.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Limits to keep in mind
- The counts are author-reported. The published account explains the screening method and totals, but does not independently establish that every underlying venue source was correctly interpreted.
- A record is not a substitute for the venue’s current instructions. Rules may change. The authors say they plan quarterly source checks, but that statement does not establish whether subsequent checks occurred.
- Category labels are not interchangeable. A loudspeaker ban, a headset mandate, and a restriction on outside guides describe different obligations.
- Missing detail should stay missing. An unspecified device policy or an empty guide-count field should not be read as permission or as an assumed answer.
When comparing venues, use the rule class, threshold, whether the guide counts, device policy, status or effective date, and the linked official text together. The dataset does not evaluate or recommend headset products.
