Virtualplatform is pitching a service-provider operating platform, not a new carrier network: it says its software coordinates customer and service workflows across multiple telecom and technology suppliers. The aim is to replace a patchwork of supplier portals, manual forms and handoffs with one operating layer for qualification, ordering, provisioning, service assurance, changes and billing.

What Virtualplatform does

Australian business software company Virtualplatform describes its platform as a way for telecom and technology service providers to manage the service lifecycle across suppliers. Its product pages list service qualification, ordering, provisioning, service health and fault handling, upgrades and relocations, and billing-related work such as reconciling supplier charges. It also describes branded sign-up and white-label customer experiences, alongside integrations with CRM, PSA, billing, notification and payment systems. Virtualplatform’s platform overview

The company’s homepage lists connectivity, compute, voice, SD-WAN and SASE among the service categories in its supplier model. It also identifies Workflow Studio and an MCP AI Interface as roadmap items; those should not be assumed to be generally available features. Virtualplatform

In practical terms, the platform is meant to sit between a provider’s customers and the systems of the suppliers that deliver underlying services. The software can provide a common way to manage orders and service changes even when each supplier has its own processes and interfaces. That is Virtualplatform’s stated proposition, not an independently measured result.

How this differs from a carrier portal or a conventional telco

A carrier portal typically exposes one supplier’s services and workflows. A provider using several carriers or technology suppliers may still have to move between portals, re-enter information, follow up by email or phone, and translate supplier updates into its own customer-facing systems. Virtualplatform’s founders describe that gap as a persistent problem: co-founder Stuart Wallis told ARN, “I still had to use that portal, and my customer still had to come through me.” ARN, 2 October 2026

Virtualplatform’s approach is to normalize those separate supplier interactions in a shared operating layer. That is different from a conventional telco model in which a provider’s own network and systems are central to delivering the service. The company says its platform serves resellers, wholesalers and network operators, adapting to each model; it is not necessarily the owner or operator of the access network behind every service. Virtualplatform’s solutions

This distinction matters when evaluating the product. A software platform can coordinate supplier workflows, but it does not by itself establish who owns the network, controls service availability, handles field repairs or bears contractual responsibility. Those responsibilities depend on the provider and supplier arrangements.

Which providers it is designed for

Virtualplatform names several customer types whose operating needs differ, even though all may work across multiple services or suppliers. Its solutions pages describe these segments:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • MSPs and ISPs: providers looking to manage multi-supplier qualification and ordering without maintaining a separate operational path for every supplier.
  • Private fibre providers and AltNets: operators seeking workflows for activities such as optical service activation.
  • Wholesale providers: businesses enabling resellers, including support for multi-tier arrangements and pricing.
  • Retail brands and MVNOs: businesses offering services under their own brand while relying on external suppliers.
  • Multi-site enterprises: organizations seeking centralized management of connectivity across locations.

These categories describe intended use cases, not proof of customer adoption or suitability for every organization in the segment. A provider should check whether its particular suppliers, products and operational responsibilities are supported.

Why the company says the model needs to change

In ARN’s account of the company’s origins, co-founder Stuart Wallis came from managed services and encountered suppliers with either no usable system or separate portals. He said the portal did not remove the MSP’s intermediary role between supplier and customer. Co-founder Piers Tyler, who brought a telecommunications background, described how commoditization affected sales, operational and billing models. ARN reports that Virtualplatform began as an aggregator, then built a platform and started delivering services directly to help smaller providers enter the market. ARN’s interview with the founders

NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi 7 Router RS200, Up to 2,500 sq ft, 6.5 Gbps
  • FASTER, FARTHER, MORE RELIABLE WIFI: A dedicated dual-band WiFi 7 router built to deliver the full speed of your internet plan across a medium to large home of streaming, video calls, gaming, and smart devices.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
  • WIFI 7 SPEED FOR TODAY'S FASTEST INTERNET PLANS: Up to 6.5 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, 1.2x faster than WiFi 6. Keeps every device connected at the same time with MU-MIMO and OFDMA. Real-world speeds depend on your devices and plan.
  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Delivers up to 2,500 sq. ft. of coverage for up to 80 devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.

The founders’ diagnosis centers on three related sources of friction:

  • Many suppliers, many processes: providers may need to qualify and order services through different supplier systems.
  • Manual handoffs: some interactions still rely on email, PDF forms and other manual steps. Tyler told ARN, “Even today, we encounter suppliers that require interaction through email, PDF forms and other manual processes.”
  • Ongoing integration and service work: keeping order flows, billing, customer experiences and supplier connections current can require continued operational effort.

These are company and founder observations. The reviewed sources do not quantify how widespread the problem is across the industry or independently measure the costs it creates.

What the price comparison does—and does not—show

Tyler recalled that when he came to Australia in 1995, he charged $2,000 per megabit per second for wholesale IP transit, compared with “about 20 cents, if you’re lucky” nowadays. This is Tyler’s recollection as reported by ARN on 2 October 2026, not an independently sourced price series or a precise current market quote. It illustrates the founders’ view that commoditization has reshaped the business around selling, operating and billing services; it should not be treated as an industry-wide average. What to verify before choosing a service-provider operating platform

Virtualplatform’s materials describe broad lifecycle coverage, but the available sources do not establish independent customer results, deployment times, savings, reliability, public pricing or service outcomes. A prospective buyer should test the operational fit directly rather than infer it from feature descriptions. Ask for evidence and demonstrations focused on the workflows that matter to the business:

  • Supplier coverage: Which specific suppliers, products and order types are integrated, and what happens when a supplier has no usable API or changes its process?
  • Exceptions and failed orders: How are rejected, delayed or incomplete orders surfaced, assigned and resolved? Can staff see where an order is blocked?
  • Lifecycle completeness: Does coverage extend from qualification and order entry through provisioning, faults, moves, upgrades and disconnection, or are some steps still handled outside the platform?
  • Billing reconciliation: How are supplier charges matched to customer services, and how are discrepancies handled?
  • Customer experience: Can the business apply its branding and pricing model, including reseller or multi-tier complexity, without losing visibility into the underlying supplier service?
  • Operating responsibility: Which party handles service assurance, customer support, network repairs and supplier escalation in the proposed arrangement?
  • Commercial and operational evidence: Request references or documented results relevant to the buyer’s own supplier mix, scale and workflows, along with clarity on implementation and ongoing support.

For a business comparing a platform with in-house development, the core trade-off is control versus the effort of building and maintaining integrations and workflows. A platform may reduce the need to engineer every supplier connection itself, but the fit depends on supported integrations, exception handling, lifecycle coverage and the terms of the service arrangement. The sources reviewed do not support ranking Virtualplatform against named competitors or claiming measured superiority.
