Xbox has also announced several PC rendering and performance options, but it has not published final PC requirements or independent launch-build benchmarks in the sources available as of October 3, 2026. Xbox’s 4K and up-to-60-FPS figure is a stated product target, not a guarantee for every PC or scene.
What Unreal Engine 5 features are in Gears of War: E-Day?
E-Day is the first Gears of War game developed in Unreal Engine 5. Epic’s interview with The Coalition identifies Lumen, MegaLights and Nanite as important parts of the game’s visual technology. ( The Coalition )
Lumen: lighting that responds across the environment
Epic describes Lumen as part of E-Day’s ultra-realistic lighting. NVIDIA characterizes the implementation as ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion. These systems are intended to make lighting respond to the surrounding environment; the available announcements do not establish a specific frame-rate cost or a measured visual improvement against another setting. (NVIDIA)
MegaLights: dynamic lighting and shadows
Xbox says E-Day is among the first games to ship with MegaLights, connecting the technology to dynamic shadows and the game’s light-and-dark atmosphere. NVIDIA says MegaLights enables ray-traced shadows from up to 100 light sources. That figure is NVIDIA’s description of the technology, not an independent performance measurement. (Xbox; NVIDIA)

Nanite: detailed environments and characters
Epic identifies Nanite as a way to use film-quality assets. NVIDIA claims it raises object detail and fidelity by up to 100X compared with Gears 5. Separately, Kate Rayner, then The Coalition’s Studio Technical Director, told Xbox Wire that E-Day would have over 100 times more environment and character details than Gears 5. These are developer and vendor comparisons; they do not establish that every asset or scene has a uniform, measured improvement. (NVIDIA; Xbox Wire)
Destruction, volumetric effects and particles
NVIDIA also describes engine advances supporting real-time destruction, broader volumetric effects and particles, and larger set pieces. The cited material does not quantify the hardware cost of these effects. (NVIDIA)
Which PC graphics and performance options has Xbox announced?
Xbox describes E-Day as built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, with hardware ray tracing and broad PC optimization. Its July 2026 announcement lists these technologies; availability depends on supported hardware and systems:
| Technology | Announced role or support |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 | Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation |
| NVIDIA Reflex | Announced latency technology |
| AMD FSR | Announced upscaling option |
| Unreal Engine TSR | Announced temporal upscaling option |
| Intel XeSS | Announced upscaling option |
| Advanced Shader Delivery | Announced for supported PC storefronts and systems; Xbox says it can reduce load times and eliminate first-run shader stutter on compatible systems |
These announcements identify options, not a tested ranking. They do not show which upscaler produces the best image, what frame rates a particular GPU will achieve, or which GPU offers the best value. A meaningful comparison will need to separate native rendering from upscaling, frame rates with and without frame generation, latency with Reflex, hardware compatibility, and shader or load behavior where Advanced Shader Delivery is supported. What does Xbox’s 4K and 60 FPS target mean for PC?
Xbox’s product description says E-Day is “Built for modern performance with 4K resolution and up to 60FPS across Campaign and Multiplayer.” This is Xbox’s stated target; it is not a promise that every PC configuration will render every scene at native 4K and 60 frames per second. The announcement does not provide PC-specific settings, hardware, or benchmark conditions for that target. (Xbox)
The announced upscaling and frame-generation technologies may offer different ways to balance image quality and displayed frame rate on supported hardware. Without comparative testing, however, the announcements cannot tell you which combination to use or what performance to expect from a particular system.
Are E-Day’s PC requirements available?
The official open-beta FAQ, published August 3, 2026, says: “Please note: These are not our launch specifications. We will update with final specifications ahead of the launch date.” Beta PC specifications should therefore not be treated as the game’s final minimum or recommended requirements. (Gears of War FAQ)
As of October 3, 2026, the sources cited here do not establish verified final PC requirements or independent benchmarks of the launch build. Xbox announced an October 6 launch, which is still upcoming as of that date. Check the official requirements after they are published rather than inferring a minimum GPU from the beta or from generic Unreal Engine guidance.

Why Unreal Engine compatibility is not an E-Day requirement
Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.8 documentation lists AMD RX 6000-series or newer, Intel Arc A-series or newer, and NVIDIA RTX 2000-series or newer for Lumen and MegaLights. This is engine-feature compatibility guidance, not a game-specific minimum. It does not say what E-Day requires, which settings will be available on each card, or how well a supported card performs. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check when comparing PCs for E-Day
Once final requirements and reliable launch-build testing are available, compare systems using the same game version, scene, resolution and settings. For this feature set, the useful questions are:
- Does the card support the game’s hardware ray tracing and the specific upscaler or frame-generation option you intend to use?
- How does image quality compare between native rendering and each available upscaling mode?
- What frame rate and latency result with frame generation enabled and disabled?
- Does the platform support Advanced Shader Delivery, and what effect does it have on load times or first-run shader stutter?
Until those results and final requirements are available, the announced features alone are not enough to recommend a particular GPU or predict a PC’s frame rate.
