To watch Netflix on a compatible Chromecast from an iPhone, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, allow Netflix to access your local network, then open Netflix, tap the Cast icon, choose the Chromecast, and start a title. Netflix’s iPhone casting flow requires iOS 16 or later and a Standard or Premium plan; it does not support AirPlay.
Check that your iPhone and Chromecast are compatible
Netflix says mobile casting is available on Standard and Premium plans. Plan features can change, so check your current plan if the Cast option is unavailable. The iPhone must run iOS 16 or later.
Netflix lists these receivers for casting from a mobile device:
- Chromecast 3rd generation or older, provided it did not come with a physical remote.
- Google Nest Hub Smart Displays.
- Select cast-enabled Vizio and Compal TVs.
This list does not mean every Chromecast or Google TV device can be controlled through Netflix’s iPhone casting flow. Check Netflix’s current compatibility details before buying a device or troubleshooting one that is not listed: Netflix Help Center: How to Cast or Mirror Netflix from Your Mobile Device. If Netflix is available on an unsupported receiver, use that device’s own remote to open the Netflix app.

- Allow local network access: Open iPhone Settings, find Netflix, and turn on Local Network access. This permission lets Netflix discover compatible devices on your network.
- Check Google Home and Wi-Fi: Open Google Home and confirm the Chromecast appears and is online. Make sure the iPhone and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Update Google Home: Check the App Store for an update, then close and reopen Netflix and try casting again.
- Restart both devices: Restart the iPhone and the Chromecast or other compatible receiver, then try again.
- Check iOS: Confirm the iPhone is running iOS 16 or later.
If the receiver still cannot be found, follow Netflix’s Chromecast troubleshooting steps and confirm that the Chromecast is set up correctly.
What to do if Netflix casting is not an option
Netflix does not support AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad. If casting is unavailable or your receiver is not supported, you can open Netflix directly on the TV or streaming device using its remote, if the app is available there. Another option is to connect the iPhone to the TV with a compatible video cable or adapter. The right adapter depends on the iPhone’s port and whether the phone supports video output, so verify both before purchasing one.

When to reset the Chromecast
Resetting is a later troubleshooting step, not the first one to try: a Chromecast reset erases its previously saved device settings.
