Only then capture the page. Selenium’s normal navigation wait and the browser’s load event do not guarantee that lazy-loaded images are ready.
Why page-load completion is not enough
Selenium’s navigation wait is tied to the document’s readyState. Depending on the configured page-load strategy, navigation may return when the document reaches a particular readiness state, but that does not mean asynchronous application work has stopped or that every image has loaded. Native lazy-loaded images and custom viewport-triggered loaders may wait until an image approaches or intersects the viewport. The window load event can also fire while lazy images remain unloaded. For an image element, img.complete alone is not a reliable success test: it may also be true for a broken image or an element with no usable source. Pair it with img.naturalWidth > 0 when the screenshot requires successfully decoded image content. MDN documents these image properties at HTMLImageElement.complete and HTMLImageElement.naturalWidth.
Python: scroll, wait for successful images, then capture
This WebDriver pattern scrolls through the document to prompt viewport-based loaders, returns to the top, and waits up to 20 seconds for document image elements to finish successfully. It is an adaptable example, not a guarantee for every site, browser, driver, or screenshot method.

Selenium’s JavaScript WebDriver screenshot API says it attempts a full-page screenshot but may fall back to a window, frame, or display, so check the actual output for your browser and driver. Adjust the scroll for dynamic pages
The example refreshes scrollHeight after each viewport step, which helps when scrolling adds content. If the page keeps growing, repeat the scan until its height stabilizes or an overall deadline is reached; otherwise the loop may never finish. For pages with nested scrollable panels, scroll the relevant container rather than only window.

Wait for the images that matter
document.images covers image elements in the document. It does not prove that CSS background images, images in iframes, custom data-src attributes, or an application-specific loading state are ready. If the page uses those mechanisms, inspect its markup and wait for the corresponding asset or application state as well. A page with intentionally broken or unavailable images will not satisfy the all-images-success condition; decide whether to fail the capture or explicitly exclude known nonessential images.
Choose a wait that observes readiness

Selenium recommends explicit waits for particular application states and warns that combining implicit and explicit waits can produce unpredictable wait times. Prefer a bounded explicit wait for this image condition rather than increasing a global implicit wait or choosing an arbitrary sleep. Details are in Selenium’s waits documentation.

Handle timeouts instead of taking a misleading screenshot
If the wait expires, the condition was not met before the deadline. Do not silently proceed if missing images would invalidate the screenshot. Report the images that are incomplete or have no positive natural width to help distinguish slow loads from failed resources:

Then decide whether to retry, increase the deadline for a known slow application, exclude a deliberately unavailable image, or fail the capture. A larger timeout cannot fix a broken URL or a loader that was never triggered.

Verify full-page output in the target browser
Image readiness and screenshot extent are separate problems. The scrolling step triggers loading; it does not make every screenshot API capture the entire document. Check whether the binding and browser-driver combination offers a full-page method, and inspect the output dimensions or visible page content to confirm it spans the intended document. Very tall pages may need special handling. Selenium’s JavaScript screenshot API describes full-page capture as best effort rather than universal behavior: takeScreenshot.

- The screenshot has blank image areas: ensure the scroll actually visits each relevant viewport, then check the image condition and inspect failed sources. Custom loaders may require scrolling a nested container or waiting for a site-specific state.
- The wait times out on a broken image:
completecan be true even when loading failed. InspectnaturalWidthand the image URL; retry only if the failure is plausibly transient. - The document keeps getting taller: infinite-scroll pages may add content whenever you approach the bottom. Set a total time or scroll limit and define which content must be included before capturing.
- The image check passes but an image is still absent: the asset may be a CSS background, iframe content, or custom attribute rather than a loaded document image. Wait for the real asset or application state.
- The screenshot contains only the viewport: image loading does not control screenshot dimensions. Use a full-page capture method supported by the chosen browser and driver, and verify its output rather than assuming the method captured the document.
