Steam’s own game Achievements page is the authoritative starting point. Open it from the Steam client or Steam Community, then use the game’s sets, filters, global unlock percentages, and friend-comparison controls to see exactly what you have earned. Steam now lets you compare one game with up to three friends, including rare achievements, completed sets, and DLC-set progress.
For a dashboard covering your entire library, a third-party tracker can add cross-game sorting, guides, percentile views, and custom completion scores. Those services are optional: they depend on your privacy settings and may calculate totals differently from Steam.
Open the official Steam achievement page
Steam separates achievement information from the store page, so the quickest route is the game-specific Achievements page. It works for games you own and for games you do not own, which is useful when checking a prospective purchase or looking up a guide.

- Open Steam and select Library.
- Choose the game whose achievements you want to inspect.
- On the game hub, open the Achievements view. The exact placement can vary with Steam’s client layout, but it is part of the game’s community and profile information rather than the in-game settings.
- Review the game’s achievement list, your unlocked count, locked entries, descriptions, and any sets shown for the game.
The client is the most convenient route when you are already playing. It also keeps your account context available for friend comparisons and synchronization checks.

Open a game directly in a browser
Steamworks documents a direct pattern for a game’s Community achievement page:
https://steamcommunity.com/achievements/<appid>
Replace <appid> with the game’s numeric Steam application ID. The resulting page shows the same game-specific achievement information through Steam Community. If you are unsure which game an ID represents, open the game’s Steam store or Community URL and use the numeric application identifier in that address.
What the page tells you
- Unlocked and locked achievements: See which entries your account has earned and which remain incomplete.
- Descriptions: Read the developer-written requirement for each achievement. Hidden achievements may conceal their description until you reveal them through the page controls.
- Achievement sets: A game can present separate base-game, DLC, seasonal, or other developer-created sets.
- Progress: Steam shows completion for each set, not just one undifferentiated number.
- Global unlock rate: The Global Stats view shows the percentage of Steam’s reported player population that has unlocked each achievement.
Search and filter a long list
Large games can have hundreds of entries. Use the page’s search and filter controls to narrow results by achievement name, unlock state, or set. Searching for a keyword is useful when a guide mentions only part of an achievement’s name; filtering to locked entries creates a practical to-do list. Filtering by set prevents DLC or event achievements from being mixed into a base-game checklist.

Understand achievement sets before judging completion
Steam now groups achievements into sets created by the game’s developer. A base game may have one set, while additional sets cover downloadable content, seasons, special events, or other content categories. The set displayed for your account can therefore differ from the historical total you see in an old guide or a third-party list.
Rank #2
Base game and DLC are separate scopes
When you compare progress, first identify the set and content scope. A player who owns only the base game should not be judged against a total that includes a DLC set. Likewise, a friend comparison that includes downloadable content is not equivalent to a base-game-only comparison.
Use the set selector on the achievement page to inspect each scope separately. Record both the unlocked count and the eligible total for the set you are discussing. This avoids calling a player “incomplete” because an add-on they do not own contributes extra entries to someone else’s total.
Seasonal and time-limited content
Some developers publish achievements for seasonal or event content. Such entries can remain visible in historical lists even after the event ends, but they should not automatically be treated as currently obtainable requirements. Check the set label and the game’s current documentation before promising that an event achievement can still be earned.
Archived achievements
Valve says archived achievements that a player missed do not appear on that player’s profile and do not block progress toward completing the relevant set or game. This is why an old list may show more historical entries than your current profile requires. When documenting a completion goal, use the active set and the entries Steam currently counts for your account rather than copying every historical achievement from a database.

Use Global Stats to find the rarest achievements
Open the game’s Global Stats or global-statistics view to see an unlock percentage beside each achievement. A lower percentage means fewer players in Steam’s reported population have unlocked it, making that entry rarer by Steam’s platform-native measure.
Rarity is not a difficulty score
Do not label the lowest-percentage achievement the “hardest” without separate evidence. An achievement can be rare because it is missable, hidden, tied to optional content, awarded late in the story, associated with a short-lived event, or affected by players abandoning the game before finishing it. The accurate wording is “rarest by Steam’s global unlock rate.”
A sound way to compare rarity
- Stay within one game and one achievement set.
- Read the displayed global unlock percentage for each entry.
- Sort conceptually from the lowest percentage (rarest) to the highest.
- Check the description for missable, optional, DLC, or event conditions before interpreting the number.
- If you need a difficulty judgment, consult a reliable game guide that explains the requirement rather than inferring difficulty from rarity alone.
Steam’s percentages are per achievement and per game; there is no single platform-wide rarity number that can fairly compare unrelated games.

Steam’s current comparison controls let you compare a game with up to three friends. Valve describes the comparison as including rare achievements, completed sets, and progress in DLC sets.

- Open the game’s Achievements page while signed in to Steam.
- Choose the friend-comparison control.
- Select up to three friends from the available list.
- Keep the same achievement set selected for everyone. Choose the base-game set when you want a base-game race, or select the relevant DLC or event set when that is the shared goal.
- Compare unlocked counts, remaining entries, rare achievements, completed sets, and DLC-set progress.
Comparing the same scope is essential. A friend with the base game plus DLC may show a larger total, while another friend’s archived or event content may no longer count on their profile. State the set name whenever you share a screenshot or announce a completion percentage.
Useful comparison questions
- Who has the higher unlocked count within the same set?
- Which player has the rarer achievement, based on Steam’s global percentage?
- Has either player completed a set while the other still has entries remaining?
- Is the difference caused by DLC ownership or an event set rather than play skill?
- Are you comparing Steam’s official count or a custom score from another service?
Track achievements across your whole library
Steam’s pages are authoritative for one game at a time. They are less suited to questions such as “Which of my games is closest to 100%?” or “What should I earn next across my library?” A third-party tracker can fill that dashboard role by reading public Steam data.
One researched tracker asks for your Steam profile link and calculates game-by-game progress and comparisons. It requires both your Steam profile and the Game Details privacy setting to be public; Steam returns no usable data for profiles that are private or visible only to friends.
What a tracker may add
- Library-wide completion percentages.
- Rarity-weighted scores that give uncommon achievements more influence.
- Percentile or leaderboard views.
- Cross-game sorting, such as games nearest to completion or the next available achievement.
- Achievement guides, comments, and chronological unlock views.
These features are supplemental. Steam remains the source of truth for the underlying achievement definitions and official global unlock rates. A tracker’s overall score can differ because it may exclude some games, require a minimum number of achievements, apply its own rarity weighting, or define “completed” differently.

Steam versus a library tracker
| Capability | Steam’s game page | Third-party tracker |
|---|---|---|
| Per-game achievement definitions | Official Valve/Steam data | Reads and presents public Steam data |
| Global unlock percentage | Steam’s displayed rate for each achievement | May display Steam rates, plus its own calculations |
| Library-wide dashboard | Not the primary focus of the per-game page | Common feature |
| Cross-game sorting and leaderboards | Limited on the game page | May be available, depending on the service |
| Custom rarity-weighted score | Not Steam’s standard completion count | May be calculated by the service |
| Privacy requirement | Works inside your Steam account and Community pages | Usually requires a public profile and public Game Details |
Use the official page when you need a definitive answer about one achievement. Use a tracker when the question spans many games, and label any custom score as the tracker’s score rather than Steam completion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check privacy before connecting a tracker
Making profile data public is the main trade-off of library-wide tracking. Before entering a profile URL or SteamID into an external service, check the following:
- Profile visibility: Set the Steam profile to public if the service requires it.
- Game Details visibility: Make Game Details public; a public profile alone may not expose achievement data.
- Input requested: Confirm whether the service needs a profile URL, SteamID, or another identifier.
- Data handling: Read whether the service stores, caches, or periodically refreshes your profile data.
- Friend requirements: Some comparison views work only when the friends being compared also use the same service or have public data.
- Deletion policy: Look for a way to remove your profile data or disconnect the service.
If you do not want to make your profile public, remain inside Steam’s client and Community pages. You can still review personal progress and use Steam’s built-in friend comparison where it is available.

Fix an achievement that is missing or not counting
Work from the narrowest explanation to the broadest. Most apparent omissions are a set or privacy mismatch rather than a hardware fault.
- Verify the game and account. Confirm that Steam is signed into the account that earned the achievement and that you opened the correct game’s page.
- Check the set. Use the set selector and look for base-game, DLC, seasonal, or event categories. An entry in another set will not appear in the scope you are currently viewing.
- Check archived status. A historical achievement may have been archived. Archived entries that you missed do not appear on your profile and do not block completion of the applicable set or game.
- Confirm synchronization. Let the game finish syncing with Steam, then close and reopen the client or Community page. A temporary connection or cloud-sync delay can leave an old state on screen.
- Recheck the requirement. Read the exact description, including hidden conditions, difficulty restrictions, co-op requirements, or a need to complete an optional objective.
- Compare the official page. If a tracker disagrees with Steam, treat Steam’s game page as authoritative and inspect the tracker’s inclusion rules, refresh time, and scoring method.
- Separate game-state problems from PC problems. Stutters, display errors, controller disconnects, or general instability may require a game update, peripheral check, or official driver troubleshooting. A driver utility cannot grant an achievement or repair Steam’s completion statistics.
If the official page still shows no change after synchronization and the requirement is clearly satisfied, consult the game developer’s support channel. Keep a screenshot of the in-game notification, the Steam achievement page, and the date so support can distinguish an account-state issue from a missed trigger.
Use Steam Link only as an optional viewing setup
Steam Link streams a Steam library from a computer to a television or supported device and sends controller input back in real time. It can make it convenient to play a game or check its achievement page from another display, but it is not required to view, track, or compare achievements.
Choose it for living-room access, not as an achievement-tracking feature. Achievement definitions, unlock rates, sets, and friend comparisons still come from Steam’s account and Community services.
Quick Recap
A reliable workflow for any Steam game
- Start on the official game Achievements page in the Steam client or Community.
- Select the relevant achievement set and note the eligible total.
- Use search and filters to find locked, unlocked, DLC, or event entries.
- Open Global Stats when you need rarity, and describe the result as a global unlock rate rather than a difficulty score.
- Use Steam’s comparison control for up to three friends, keeping the same set and content scope.
- Move to a third-party tracker only when you need a library-wide dashboard, guides, or custom rankings.
- Before connecting a tracker, review profile visibility, Game Details visibility, data retention, and friend-comparison requirements.
- If a count looks wrong, check account, set, archived status, synchronization, and the official Steam page before troubleshooting hardware.
