For ChatGPT on the web, type chatgpt.com into your browser’s address bar and check the complete hostname before signing in. For a mobile or desktop app, start from OpenAI’s own download links and confirm the app-store publisher is OpenAI. A familiar logo or the word “ChatGPT” in a page or app name is not enough to verify authenticity.
Verify the website before signing in
- Open a fresh browser tab and type chatgpt.com into the address bar.
- Before entering your login details, inspect the full hostname shown in the address bar. It should be chatgpt.com; a different hostname that merely includes “ChatGPT” is not the same check.
- Do not rely on a page logo or a search-result snippet. OpenAI identifies openai.com as its company website and help.openai.com as its support site; the ChatGPT service page is at chatgpt.com.
Find the official app for your device
Use OpenAI’s Help Center app instructions as the starting point. If you search an app store yourself, check the publisher before installing. Store availability and requirements can vary by country and device, so use the current official listing for your situation.

Be careful with social-media support messages
Do not give account details to someone who contacts you through social media claiming to provide support. OpenAI’s Help Center says: “Never share your account login details over social media.” It also says not to engage with accounts asking for account details or offering account help. Instead, navigate to OpenAI Help Center independently.
OpenAI publishes a list of its websites, social accounts, and customer email domains on its communications-verification page. That list can help you check a communication, but a listed email domain alone does not prove an unexpected message is legitimate.

Check current availability and requirements
OpenAI says its apps are updated regularly and links to supported-country guidance from its app instructions. Because store listings and app requirements can change, check the live official listing reached through OpenAI’s Help Center rather than relying on an old screenshot or a copied download link.
