Use the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Verifier, choose the VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) category, and search the exchange’s exact legal entity name. Then reconcile that result with the app’s legal disclosures and check the live record again immediately before depositing money. A match shows BSP registration or supervision in the relevant category; it is not a guarantee that the exchange is safe, solvent, or suitable.
What the BSP check actually establishes
The BSP Verifier is the authoritative starting point for checking whether a financial institution is registered with or supervised by BSP. Its VASP category covers “entities that facilitate transfer or exchange of virtual assets (digital units that can be used for payments or investments).” An exchange may market itself as a crypto platform, wallet, broker, or trading app, but the relevant question is whether the legal entity providing the Philippine service appears under the appropriate BSP category.
A positive VASP result answers a narrow authorization question: whether BSP’s current records identify that entity as registered with or supervised by BSP for the listed activity. It does not certify the quality of the platform, the value of a token, the security of your account, or the safety of your deposit.

Use the result as one part of due diligence. Keep the exact name, category, status and date you observed so that you can show what you verified if the listing later changes.
Why the legal entity name matters
Brands and corporate entities are often different. An app can use a short trading name while its terms of service identify a corporation with a different spelling, suffix or subsidiary. BSP records generally use the registered entity, not the consumer-facing brand. Searching only the brand can therefore produce no result, a result for an unrelated company, or false confidence from a similarly named business.
Where to find the entity name
- Terms of use or customer agreement shown inside the app or on its website.
- Privacy notice, which normally identifies the data controller or operating company.
- Corporate disclosure, regulatory information page, or Philippine contact details.
- Payment instructions and receipts, where the recipient’s legal name may be displayed.
- Information the company provides for Philippine registration or corporate records.
Copy the name exactly, including punctuation, “Inc.”, “Corp.”, “Ltd.” or other suffixes. Record any registration number or address shown with it. If the app uses several entities for custody, payments and trading, identify each one instead of assuming that one company’s listing covers every service.

Step-by-step: verify an exchange in the BSP Verifier
- Open the official BSP Verifier. Start from BSP’s own website rather than a link supplied by an exchange, influencer or chat message. The Verifier is designed to help users check registration, supervision and suspicious financial services.
- Choose the VASP category. Use the category selector and select VASP. Do not substitute a generic financial-institution category simply because the app also offers payments, remittances or an electronic wallet.
- Enter the exact legal name. Paste the entity name from the exchange’s terms, privacy notice or other corporate disclosure. Search the complete name first. If there is no result, try obvious spelling variants, spacing and punctuation differences as follow-up searches.
- Inspect the returned record. Note the entity name, category, registration or supervision information and any status displayed. A result under VASP is materially different from a marketing statement that the platform is “regulated” somewhere in the world.
- Reconcile the record with the brand. Confirm that the legal entity in the BSP result is the company operating the app you intend to use. Match the name against the platform’s terms, privacy notice, Philippine support contact and payment instructions. If those documents name a different company, stop until the relationship is explained in writing.
- Cross-check BSP’s directory. BSP’s financial-stability directories include a VASP list. Use the directory and the Verifier together, and copy the exact legal name shown. Differences in punctuation may be harmless; differences in corporate identity are not.
- Capture evidence. Save the date and time of the check, the search term, the category, the returned name and the status. A screenshot or exported note is useful because a live listing can later be amended or removed.
- Recheck before the transaction. Open the live Verifier record immediately before sending pesos or transferring crypto. Do not rely on an old screenshot, a cached webpage or a statement that the exchange was licensed in the past.
How to interpret common search outcomes
A matching VASP record appears
Confirm that the legal name is identical or demonstrably the same entity named in the app’s legal documents. Check that the services you plan to use—such as exchange, transfer, custody or administration—fit the activity described by the record. Then continue with separate checks of fees, withdrawal rules, security and complaints handling. The listing is evidence of BSP registration or supervision; it is not an investment endorsement.
No record appears
A missing result means you have not established BSP VASP registration for that entity. First check for a legal-name mismatch, alternate spelling, a subsidiary or a recently changed corporate name. If the company still cannot be found under VASP or another clearly applicable BSP category, do not treat claims such as “BSP compliant,” “licensed abroad” or “application pending” as equivalent to a current Philippine VASP listing. Ask the provider to identify the exact legal entity and verify that name independently.
A similar name appears
Do not assume a near match is the same business. Compare the full corporate name, address, registration details and disclosures. A look-alike name can belong to an unrelated company or an impersonator. If the platform cannot reconcile the identities, treat the result as unverified.

The record is cancelled or no longer active
Do not deposit while relying on a former authorization. BSP published Circular Letter No. CL-2026-013 dated 17 March 2026 cancelling a VASP certificate for the entity named in that notice. That example demonstrates why status must be checked at the time of a transaction: a certificate that existed previously can later be cancelled. If a listing shows cancellation, suspension or another adverse status, contact BSP through its official channels and the provider’s documented support before taking action; do not infer that withdrawals, refunds or new deposits are protected.

What “BSP-licensed” means under the rules
BSP Circular No. 1108
BSP Circular No. 1108, Series of 2021, dated 26 January 2021, is titled Guidelines for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP). It governs VASPs and replaced the former virtual-currency-exchange provision in Section 902-N of the Manual of Regulations for Non-Bank Financial Institutions. The framework is therefore broader than a particular app label: it addresses entities that facilitate virtual-asset transfer or exchange and related regulated activities.

The BSP Citizen’s Charter (2025 edition) describes a staged application path. The processing times below are the charter’s listed times, not a promise that an applicant will be approved or that every application takes exactly that long.

The charter also lists one-time licensing fees of ₱100,000 for a VASP with safekeeping and/or administration services (a custodial VASP) and ₱20,000 for a Type B VASP without safekeeping and/or administration services (a non-custodial VASP). These are application and licensing figures in the 2025 charter. They do not prove that a particular exchange has authority, and they are not a customer fee schedule.
Do not confuse BSP status with other credentials
- Foreign authorization: A license or registration in another country does not establish Philippine BSP VASP authority.
- SEC or corporate registration: Being incorporated, or obtaining a corporate registration connected with an application, is not the same as appearing as a BSP-supervised VASP.
- Payment or e-money listing: A payment service’s presence in another BSP category does not automatically authorize its separate crypto-exchange or custody activity.
- Marketing language: “Compliant,” “regulated,” “licensed,” “BSP registered,” and “BSP pending” are claims to verify, not substitutes for the live record.
- Token or project approval: A VASP listing does not approve a particular coin, yield product, trading strategy or promised return.
If two exchanges are both listed, compare the activities that matter
Once both entities pass the identity and category check, licensing alone will not tell you which service fits your needs. Compare the following items using the providers’ current terms and the BSP record you captured.

Due diligence to complete after the BSP lookup
Verify the money path
Before a large transfer, identify the legal recipient of pesos and the destination account for withdrawals. The name on a bank instruction should make sense in relation to the VASP entity. Be cautious if staff ask you to send money to a personal account, an unrelated company or a new destination supplied only through an informal chat.

Read withdrawal and custody terms
Find the sections covering withdrawal limits, network selection, pending reviews, account closure and asset recovery. Confirm whether the provider holds customer assets, uses a separate custodian or merely supplies software that lets you control your own keys. These distinctions affect what happens if an account is locked, a device is lost or the company stops operating.
Harden the account before funding it
- Use a unique password stored in a reputable password manager.
- Enable the strongest available multi-factor method and protect recovery codes offline.
- Turn on withdrawal-address allowlists or transaction confirmations when offered.
- Keep your email and phone account secured separately from the exchange login.
- Start with a small deposit and test a complete withdrawal to an address you control.
Plan for complaints and records
Save account statements, transaction IDs, fee schedules and support tickets. Use the provider’s formal complaint channel and keep correspondence. If a problem concerns suspected fraud or an impersonation, preserve the original messages, payment details and screenshots for the relevant authorities; do not delete evidence while waiting for a response.
Red flags that should stop a deposit
- The app will not disclose the legal entity behind the brand.
- The name in the BSP result differs from the company in the terms, with no documented explanation.
- Support pressures you to deposit immediately or promises guaranteed returns.
- You are told to pay a “tax,” “unlock fee” or “verification deposit” before withdrawals are released.
- Bank instructions change at the last minute or direct funds to an individual or unrelated business.
- The provider shows an old certificate or screenshot but will not identify a current BSP record.
- A search result appears under a category unrelated to the crypto service being advertised.
- The record is cancelled, suspended or otherwise inconsistent with the provider’s claims.
Any one of these issues warrants pausing the transaction until the identity, authority and payment path are independently resolved. A BSP listing cannot cure an impersonation, an unauthorized product or a request that conflicts with the provider’s own legal documents.

For each exchange, keep a short dated note containing:
- Consumer brand and app name.
- Exact legal entity, including corporate suffix.
- URL or location of the provider’s terms and privacy notice.
- BSP Verifier category selected: VASP or another stated category.
- Exact name and status returned by BSP.
- Date and time checked, plus a screenshot or saved page where lawful.
- Services you intend to use, such as trading, transfers or custody.
- Withdrawal, fee, security and complaint terms you reviewed.
- Date scheduled for the next check, especially before a new deposit.
This record separates what BSP established from your own suitability and security checks. Repeat the process whenever the company changes its legal documents, launches a new product, changes payment instructions or you plan a significant transfer.
The Bottom Line
Search the exchange’s exact legal entity in BSP’s live Verifier under VASP, reconcile the result with the app’s disclosures, cross-check BSP’s directory, and recheck the status immediately before depositing. Treat the listing as evidence of regulatory registration or supervision—not as a guarantee of safety, solvency or returns.
