Before uploading a batch, check that every expected file is present, plays from beginning to end, contains the intended video and audio streams, and matches the playlist entry you plan to publish. Then upload through YouTube Studio, assign each video to the right playlist, and review YouTube’s Checks. A playlist of prerecorded uploads is not the same as a live broadcast sent through an encoder.
1. Inventory the batch before checking individual files
Start with the exact set of files intended for the playlist. Make a list of expected filenames and count the files in the folder or staging location. Look for duplicate names, temporary exports, and files that are conspicuously smaller or shorter than expected. These are useful workflow warnings, not YouTube-defined pass/fail thresholds.
- Compare the actual filenames and count against your list.
- Confirm that each file belongs in the intended playlist and is the correct version.
- Keep a source copy if you may need to replace or re-export an item.
2. Check that every file opens and plays through
Open each video in a media player or inspect it with a media-information utility. Check the opening, a point in the middle, and the end. A visible filename, a familiar extension, or a successful opening frame does not prove that the whole file decodes correctly.
Confirm that the duration is plausible and that picture and sound remain in sync. Listen for missing, clipped, unintelligible, or unexpectedly silent audio. Verify the picture’s dimensions and orientation, and check that the aspect ratio is what you intended. If a file fails partway through or has a problem you can hear or see, repair or re-export it before uploading.

3. Inspect the actual format and streams
Do not rely on the extension alone: inspect the container and the codecs inside it. YouTube’s supported-format list includes MOV, MPEG, MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, WebM, ProRes, DNxHR, CineForm, and HEVC. Audio-only files cannot be uploaded to create a video.
YouTube’s encoding guidance recommends MP4 with H.264 video and AAC-LC audio among its preferred choices. For MP4, the guidance calls for Fast Start, with the moov atom at the front of the file. These are recommendations, not a reason to assume that every other accepted format will fail.

4. Compare the video and audio with the source
Use YouTube’s video and audio formatting specifications and recommended upload encoding settings as references when deciding whether a file needs a new export.
- Frame rate: YouTube recommends preserving the recording’s frame rate rather than changing it without a need.
- Resolution and aspect ratio: Confirm they match your intended presentation. Avoid converting just to make files look uniform if that would degrade the source.
- Audio: Confirm that an audio stream exists when expected and that it plays intelligibly and stays synchronized.
- Container and codecs: Check the streams themselves against the supported formats and preferred encoding guidance; a file extension does not reveal all of this.
If the file plays correctly and uses a supported format, do not re-encode it solely because its settings differ from a preferred recommendation. YouTube distinguishes supported formats from recommended encoding settings.

5. Optionally check file integrity after a transfer
If you copied or staged the batch, you can compare checksums for a trusted source copy and the transferred files. A matching checksum can help identify an unintended change during transfer. YouTube’s upload guidance does not require checksums or prescribe a checksum algorithm or batch-validation utility; treat this as an optional general file-integrity check, not a platform requirement.
6. Upload the batch and assign each video deliberately
On desktop, YouTube Studio’s upload instructions allow up to 15 videos in one batch. A batch upload does not remove the need to review each item’s details.

- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the files in the batch and begin the upload.
- Review each video’s details, including its title and other intended metadata.
- Use the playlist control in the video’s details to choose the intended playlist. Confirm the assignment for every item rather than assuming that selecting several files assigned them all correctly. YouTube’s playlist instructions cover adding videos to a playlist.
- Review the available Checks before publishing or scheduling.
YouTube says Checks can identify copyright issues and, for eligible YouTube Partner Program creators, ad-suitability issues. Checks do not replace local playback, file-integrity review, or confirmation that each video is assigned to the right playlist.

Uploading prerecorded videos into a playlist uses Studio’s upload, details, playlist, and Checks workflow. A live event sent from an encoder is a different workflow: YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing before going live, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring stream health, and checking the integrity and growth of local archive files. Encoder settings such as RTMP or RTMPS, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval concern live ingest; they are not a preflight checklist for uploading prerecorded files into a playlist.
