Download Ledger Wallet only through Ledger’s official download page. Before installing a desktop version, verify the installer’s SHA-512 checksum against Ledger’s published value and verify Ledger’s signature on the checksum file. On macOS, also check the app’s signing identity. For a Ledger OS update, use Ledger Wallet’s My Ledger section and make sure you can recover your device before proceeding.
Start with Ledger’s official download page
Ledger currently calls its application Ledger Wallet; the product page identifies Ledger Live as its former name. Go to Ledger’s official download page and select the download route for your operating system. The page provides desktop and mobile options.
For a desktop installer, verify the downloaded file before installing it. Ledger’s installation verification guide describes checking the file’s SHA-512 digest against Ledger’s published checksum and verifying the signature on that checksum. The checksum comparison tests whether your installer matches the file Ledger publishes; checking the signature helps establish that the checksum itself was signed by Ledger.
Verify a desktop installer on your operating system
Use the procedure and commands in Ledger’s current verification guide for your operating system. The guide describes Windows PowerShell, macOS Terminal, and Linux procedures; do not substitute a command for a different operating system or assume that checking the installed app proves the original installer was authentic.

Windows
Ledger’s guide uses PowerShell’s Get-FileHash with the SHA-512 algorithm. Compute the hash of the downloaded installer, then compare the complete result with the SHA-512 value Ledger publishes for that release. Follow the guide to verify the signature on the checksum file as well.
macOS
Use Ledger’s Terminal instructions to calculate and compare the installer’s SHA-512 digest and verify the checksum file’s signature. Ledger’s guide also calls for checking the app’s Developer TeamIdentifier; it currently specifies X6LFS5BQKN. Because signing identities and verification steps can change, confirm the expected identifier in Ledger’s live guide before relying on it.

Linux
Ledger’s guide describes using a hashing utility to compute the downloaded installer’s SHA-512 digest and compare it with Ledger’s published value. Follow the guide’s instructions for verifying the checksum signature; a digest match alone does not establish the checksum’s provenance.
What to do if a verification check fails
- The SHA-512 values differ: Do not install or run the file. Confirm you are comparing the right installer and release, then follow Ledger’s current support guidance.
- The checksum signature does not verify: Stop. A matching installer hash is not enough if you cannot establish that the checksum came from Ledger.
- The macOS signing identity is unexpected: Do not proceed; check Ledger’s live guide for the correct identity and contact Ledger Support if the result remains unexpected.
Ledger’s verification guide directs users to contact Ledger Support when checks do not succeed. Do not try to bypass a failed check by reinstalling from an unofficial download source.

Update Ledger Wallet and Ledger OS safely
Updating the application and updating the hardware wallet’s Ledger OS are separate actions. Get the current Ledger Wallet app from Ledger’s official download page. To apply an offered device update, connect and unlock the Ledger device, open Ledger Wallet, select My Ledger, and follow the on-screen instructions if Ledger OS is offered. Ledger stages updates, so an update may not appear for every account or device at the same time. Availability and update capability can also depend on the device model and whether you are using desktop or mobile.
Prepare recovery access before a Ledger OS update
Ledger’s update guidance says a firmware update has a small chance of resetting the device. If that happens, recovery requires the 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase or a backup. Make sure your recovery method is available and correct before starting; keep the phrase private and use it only through the device’s proper recovery flow. Never enter it into Ledger Wallet, a website, or a support chat to verify an app or expedite an update.
