Use Zoroark in Great or Ultra League with Sucker Punch, Foul Play, and Sludge Bomb. This set gives it reliable Dark-type pressure plus a credible Poison option for shield decisions. Zoroark is not a general-purpose tank or automatic safe switch: its extremely low bulk means it needs shield, alignment, and teammate support. The best results come when you deploy it as a pressure attacker, closer, or matchup-specific switch rather than asking it to absorb neutral charged attacks.
The recommended moveset and what it accomplishes
Pokémon GO Hub’s current Great League and Ultra League recommendation is the same three-move combination: Sucker Punch as the fast move, with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb as charged moves. It is the most practical starting point unless a themed cup, a specific matchup plan, or a later move rebalance changes the incentives.
| Slot | Move | Battle purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Fast move | Sucker Punch | Provides the recommended fast-move pressure for building toward charged attacks. |
| Charged move 1 | Foul Play | Dependable Dark-type damage and the move opponents must respect when Zoroark has energy. |
| Charged move 2 | Sludge Bomb | A different damage profile that threatens targets vulnerable to Poison and creates a second credible shield response. |
The point of this set is not to make Zoroark durable. It gives a fragile attacker a clear way to generate pressure: Foul Play is the consistent option, while Sludge Bomb makes it harder for an opponent to assume that shielding one type of attack is always safe.

Zoroark’s listed alternatives include Shadow Claw and Snarl as other fast attacks. Its charged-move pool also includes Flamethrower and Night Shade alongside Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. Those options can matter in a restricted cup or after a balance change, but the cited Great and Ultra League baseline remains Sucker Punch with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. Change the set for a defined matchup or format reason, not simply because another move looks appealing in isolation.

What Zoroark’s role actually is
A glassy pressure piece
Zoroark’s defining PvP problem is very low bulk. It cannot reliably sit in front of neutral charged attacks, farm damage through repeated hits, or rescue a poor alignment by absorbing pressure. A battle plan that assumes Zoroark can spend shields freely while staying on the field usually fails before its charged-move threat matters.
Its value comes from forcing decisions. Dark damage can punish targets that do not resist it, and Sludge Bomb gives the opponent another possibility to account for. Zoroark is most useful when a teammate, a favorable lead, or an energy advantage lets it attack before its durability becomes the deciding factor.
Lead, closer, or selective switch
- Lead: Use Zoroark in front when the expected field contains targets it pressures and you are prepared to switch quickly from hard counters. A lead position gives it immediate access to shield pressure but also exposes its low bulk before you know the opponent’s full team.
- Closer: A backline position can be stronger when shields are limited and Zoroark can convert stored energy into decisive charged attacks. The closer role is especially attractive if a teammate can remove or weaken the Fairy-, Fighting-, and other threats that punish it.
- Matchup-dependent switch: Zoroark can function as a selective switch when the opposing alignment gives it a credible attack sequence. Do not treat it as a universal safe swap; its low durability makes a blind switch unusually risky.
Choose the role according to the team’s ability to preserve Zoroark’s health and create the conditions in which its two charged moves are both believable. The Pokémon is a specialist pressure tool, not a generic answer to an unknown lineup.

How to choose between Foul Play and Sludge Bomb
When Foul Play is the right throw
Foul Play is the dependable Dark-type charged attack in the recommended set. Throw it when Dark damage is sufficient to win the exchange, when the opponent’s Pokémon is already near a knockout threshold, or when baiting would leave Zoroark exposed to a decisive counterattack. A real knockout or a large amount of required damage is usually worth more than trying to extract a shield with a weaker-looking sequence.

When Sludge Bomb adds value
Sludge Bomb supplies the alternate profile that makes the set function as more than a one-dimensional Dark attacker. It can punish targets weak to Poison and forces the opponent to evaluate two distinct charged-move outcomes. Even when Sludge Bomb is not the nominally strongest attack for the matchup, its existence can change whether an opponent can safely ignore a charged move.
The two attacks are not interchangeable bait buttons. Select the move that reaches the needed damage or knockout unless the shield information you gain is more valuable than immediate damage. Zoroark’s low bulk means that a failed gamble can cost the entire Pokémon.
Shield baiting with Zoroark
There is no established universal percentage for Zoroark’s bait success. PvPoke defines “Consistency” as a rating of how dependent a Pokémon is on baiting shields, which is a useful reminder that baiting measures risk and dependence rather than guaranteeing a result. Use the following decision process instead of repeating a fixed bait pattern.
- Check the health threshold. Decide whether Foul Play or Sludge Bomb would knock out the opposing Pokémon or leave it in a losing range. If only one move achieves the required result, throw that move rather than baiting automatically.
- Count shields on both sides. An opponent with two shields may protect a nonlethal attack, but may also choose to preserve both shields if Zoroark is close to fainting. Your own remaining shields determine whether you can survive the opponent’s next charged attack after a bait attempt.
- Track energy and timing. A bait is more credible when Zoroark has enough energy to threaten either charged move and the opponent cannot safely assume which one is coming. Do not telegraph the decision by using the same sequence every time.
- Read the opponent’s incentive. If the opponent must shield a potential Foul Play or Sludge Bomb to keep the matchup, a lower-cost throw can test that commitment. If the opponent has no reason to shield because the move is nonlethal and Zoroark is about to faint, baiting is usually weak.
- Convert the information. If the bait draws a shield, use the resulting shield advantage to reach the move that actually wins the next exchange. If it fails, preserve any remaining energy only when Zoroark can survive long enough to use it; otherwise take the guaranteed damage immediately.
Baiting is strongest when both charged moves are credible and the opponent cannot ignore either one. It is weakest when Zoroark is one hit from fainting, when the opponent can comfortably absorb the attack, or when only one move reaches the necessary knockout. PvPoke’s ranking output is based on simulated matchups and role-oriented assumptions, so use it to shape a plan rather than to promise that a bait will work in every live battle.

Building a team around Zoroark
Cover the attacks that exploit its frailty
Start with partners that can take the Fighting-, Fairy-, and other attacks that threaten Zoroark. The exact partner depends on the league and cup, but the structural requirement is consistent: at least one teammate must be able to enter those matchups without immediately spending both shields. This lets Zoroark remain available for targets it pressures instead of being forced into an unwinnable alignment.
Supply bulk and safe pivots
A bulky teammate can absorb neutral damage, draw out an opponent’s answer, or create the switch window Zoroark needs. Because Zoroark is not a reliable universal safe switch, a sturdier pivot is often the piece that protects it from an unfavorable opening. The pivot does not need to win every matchup; it needs to preserve alignment and avoid giving the opponent a free farm-down.
Create shield or energy advantage
Zoroark benefits disproportionately from extra shields and stored energy because its main limitation is surviving long enough to reach its pressure sequence. Build at least one partner that can force shields, generate an energy lead, or leave opponents in range of Foul Play or Sludge Bomb. The team should make Zoroark’s attacks more decisive, not merely place three attackers with similar weaknesses together.
Plan for the endgame
Before choosing the final slot, identify which opposing Pokémon must be removed for Zoroark to close. If the answer is a Fairy-type, a Fighting-type, or another hard counter, reserve the appropriate teammate or shield for that job. Zoroark’s endgame is strongest when the remaining opponent has limited ability to exploit its low bulk and must respect both charged moves.

Great League matchup examples
Published Great League examples illustrate the kinds of matchups the recommended build can pressure, as well as the limits that keep Zoroark out of the default meta core. They are examples, not guaranteed outcomes; IVs, shields, energy, move timing, and bait choices can change a result.
| Listed key wins | Why the example matters |
|---|---|
| Galarian Corsola | Shows Zoroark can pressure a target that does not comfortably dismiss its charged-move threat. |
| Altaria | Demonstrates a matchup in which Dark pressure can matter when alignment and shield timing cooperate. |
| Shadow Forretress | Illustrates the value of maintaining enough health and energy to reach charged attacks before the opponent’s pressure overwhelms Zoroark. |
| Snorlax | Shows that Zoroark can threaten bulky neutral targets when it is not forced to absorb repeated charged attacks. |
| Deoxys (Defense Forme) | Represents a high-value pressure matchup that still depends on the battle’s shield and energy state. |
| Listed key losses | What to learn |
|---|---|
| Melmetal | Do not assume Dark pressure alone solves a matchup with strong opposing charged-move tempo. |
| Shadow Ninetales | Shield and alignment support are essential when the opponent can punish Zoroark quickly. |
| Tinkaton | Fairy pressure is a central reason to include a teammate that can cover Zoroark’s weaknesses. |
| Cramorant | A matchup can remain unfavorable even when Zoroark reaches its charged attacks. |
| Mimikyu | Keep hard counters in mind when deciding whether Zoroark belongs in the lead or backline. |
Use these names as scouting information rather than a script. A listed win can disappear if Zoroark enters with low health, loses alignment, or mistimes a charged move; a listed loss can become playable with a shield advantage or a favorable energy lead.

Example IV spread
Pokémon GO Hub cites a Great League stat-product example of 1 Attack, 15 Defense, 15 Stamina at level 21.5 and 1496 CP. Treat those numbers as the cited example for that league, not as a promise that every account can or should reproduce the exact build. Check the Pokémon’s actual CP, level, and available resources before spending candy or Stardust.
How strong is it in the current snapshot?
In Pokémon GO Hub’s 2026 snapshot, Zoroark is listed at rank #655 of 1,153 in Great League, with a PvPoke score of 72.2 and a tier D classification. Those figures place it in specialist or spice-pick territory rather than among the default meta core. A recommended moveset tells you how to use Zoroark; it does not mean the Pokémon is broadly top tier.

When investment makes sense
- Invest when you specifically want Dark-type pressure and are willing to build the team around a fragile attacker.
- Invest when a cup or local format gives Zoroark favorable targets that the broad Great League ranking does not capture.
- Invest when you enjoy a high-pressure, shield-dependent style and already have partners that cover its losing alignments.
- Delay investment if you need a generalist that can safely absorb neutral damage, switch blindly, or perform consistently without shield support.
Ultra League, Master League, and format changes
The same Sucker Punch, Foul Play, and Sludge Bomb recommendation is cited for Ultra League. The role principles remain unchanged: protect Zoroark from immediate hard counters, preserve enough health to reach charged attacks, and use it where its pressure is worth the durability trade-off.
No independent published statistic establishes a universal Zoroark bait-success rate, team win rate, or Master League viability. Do not infer Master League performance from the Great League ranking or from a single simulation. For any league or limited cup, verify the current rules, move data, and matchup assumptions before committing expensive resources.
PvPoke’s cited ranking page is version 1.40.2.7, released in 2025. Rankings and simulations can change when moves, battle mechanics, or the available Pokémon pool changes, so treat a current score as a snapshot rather than a permanent verdict.
A practical battle checklist
- Before the battle: Identify which opposing types can exploit Zoroark and which targets you expect Foul Play or Sludge Bomb to pressure.
- At the opening: Keep a switch route in mind. Do not stay in solely to preserve a predicted bait sequence if the opponent has a direct hard counter.
- When charged: Compare the knockout threshold with the opponent’s shield count. Throw the winning move when one attack is clearly required.
- When baiting: Bait only when both charged moves are credible, the opponent has a meaningful reason to shield, and Zoroark can survive the response.
- In the endgame: Preserve shields and energy for the matchup Zoroark was selected to solve. Its value rises sharply when the remaining opponent cannot safely ignore either charged move.
Zoroark rewards deliberate alignment and information management. It can create winning pressure with the recommended moveset, but it cannot erase the consequences of poor timing, an uncovered Fairy or Fighting weakness, or an opponent who correctly refuses a low-value bait.
