Turn on Auto rotate and turn the tablet to switch between portrait and landscape; the precise controls and layouts depend on the model, One UI version, and app support.
Open two apps in split screen

Open the first app, then tap Recents in the navigation bar.

Tap the app icon above its preview and select Open in split screen view.

Select the second app from Recents or the Apps screen. The two apps should now appear in separate windows.

If Open in split screen view is missing, that app may not support the feature. Samsung notes, “Not all apps support split screen view.” Available screens and settings can also vary by wireless service provider and software version, as explained in Samsung’s Galaxy tablet split-screen guide.
Resize the split-screen windows
Drag the divider between the apps to change how much screen space each one gets. Move it toward one window to give the other more room. The divider’s appearance and available layout choices can vary across Galaxy Tab models and software versions.

Switch between portrait and landscape

Enable Auto rotate if the tablet is locked in one orientation. You can usually find the rotation control in Quick Settings; its exact location and label can differ by model and software version.

Turn the tablet to the orientation you want. Portrait stacks the app areas along the screen’s shorter width; landscape provides more horizontal room for side-by-side content.

On the Galaxy Tab S8, Samsung says two or three open apps can be arranged horizontally or vertically, with their positions changing when Auto rotate is on and the tablet is turned. Samsung describes this as four multitasking options in its Galaxy Tab S8 Multi window guide. That specific arrangement should not be assumed to be identical on every Galaxy Tab.

Open Recents and close the split-screen view to return to using apps individually. The control for closing recent apps can look different depending on the tablet’s navigation settings and software version.
