To stop audio after you fall asleep, set a timer in the app playing it. Spotify has an in-app sleep timer that stops Spotify playback; Google Clock’s Bedtime schedule is for bedtime routines and sleep sounds, not a documented universal timer for stopping any app. Your earbuds are simply the audio output—these workflows do not require a special earbud feature.
Choose the right kind of timer

If Spotify is playing, use its timer to end that playback. If you want a scheduled bedtime routine or sleep sounds, use Clock’s Bedtime feature. Android Bedtime mode can silence interruptions and optionally change the display, but it is not established as a general audio stop timer.
Stop Spotify playback after a set time
- Connect your earbuds, start a song or podcast in Spotify, and open the full Now Playing screen.
- For a podcast, tap the moon icon beside the play control. For music, tap the three-dot menu and choose Sleep Timer. Spotify documents these separate entry points in its mobile instructions.
- Choose one of the available durations or End of track. Spotify’s published mobile instructions list 5, 10, 15, 30, or 45 minutes, 1 hour, or the end of the track. The options shown can vary with the current app interface.
- To check the setting, reopen the three-dot menu and look beside the Sleep Timer entry.
Spotify’s August 29, 2025 update says timer controls are available across mobile, desktop, and Wear OS and can stop playback on nearly any device. That does not mean every Android app has the same timer or that every Spotify screen looks identical.
Set a bedtime routine in Google Clock
Google’s detailed instructions are for Pixel devices. Clock’s Bedtime tab schedules bedtime and wake-up settings; its Sleep sounds option lets you choose sounds, but Google says those sounds play only when turned on. Follow the Google Clock Bedtime instructions:

- Open Clock and tap Bedtime.
- Under Schedule, set a bedtime and the days it applies. If desired, turn on a bedtime reminder and Bedtime mode.
- Set a wake-up time and the days it applies. Configure the alarm options you want.
- Under Sleep sounds, tap the current sound or Choose another sound. Choose a media app and sound, or select an on-device sound. Turn on sleep sounds when you want them to play.
This is a scheduled bedtime and sleep-sounds feature, not a documented way to stop music or a podcast from any app after a custom elapsed time.
What Android Bedtime mode changes
Bedtime mode is focused on interruptions and the display: Google describes it as using Do Not Disturb to silence calls, texts, and other notifications, with an option to make the screen grayscale. It should not be treated as a command to stop all audio. See Google’s Bedtime mode overview.

Why the steps may look different
- The Clock directions here are Pixel-specific. Other Android manufacturers may use different Clock apps, labels, or settings.
- Spotify’s controls and duration choices can change with app versions. If the menu or icon is missing, check the current Now Playing screen and Spotify’s current instructions.
- The timer controls are software features; neither the Google nor Spotify instructions establish a need for a particular earbud model or accessory.
