ScreenshotAPI.net’s schedule feature runs recurring captures according to a cron job. Its documentation describes storing those captures so you can review or compare them later. The service’s documented job controls do not establish that every scheduled job automatically detects changes or sends notifications. - Capture layer: takes scheduled screenshots and provides a visual record.
- Comparison layer: checks screenshots or extracted text against an earlier capture and decides what counts as a change.
- Alert layer: sends a notification when your comparison workflow meets its criteria.
The vendor’s technical guide describes a diff-and-alert pattern, but you need to configure the comparison and notification components around the captures. A screenshot history alone is not a change alert.
Set up a scheduled page capture
1. Decide what evidence you need
Choose the exact URL and the part of the page you need to monitor. A full-page screenshot is useful for broad layout changes; a viewport capture may be enough for a prominent banner. If you care about a price, headline, or other text, plan to extract and compare text as well as—or instead of—reviewing images. For localized pages, identify the location, timezone, cookies, or other rendering context that matters.

2. Configure the capture in Query Builder
In ScreenshotAPI.net’s Query Builder, enter the URL and choose the capture settings that match your goal. The documented options include screenshot output and text or HTML extraction. The documentation also describes full-page capture, fresh renders, CSS, cookies, geolocation and timezone settings, and cloud-storage options. Use only the settings relevant to the target page, then inspect the resulting capture or extracted content.
For content that appears only after interaction, the Query Builder documentation describes clicking a CSS selector before capture. Configure the selector for the control that reveals the desired content, and verify that the revealed section is present in the result.
3. Set the recurring interval
Choose the scheduled screenshot action and set an available preset or a custom cron expression. ScreenshotAPI.net documents hourly, daily, weekly, and custom schedules. Cron specifies when recurring jobs run; use a preset if it fits your monitoring need, or check the service’s schedule documentation when entering a custom expression.

There is no universally correct interval. As practical guidance, consider a shorter cadence for volatile or high-impact pages and a longer one for slow-changing archive pages. Balance how quickly the page may change against how soon you need to know. The schedule options are service capabilities, not a guarantee that every run will complete at an exact time.
4. Start and manage the job
Activate the job and manage it in the dashboard’s Schedule Requests area. The documented controls are Start, Stop, Delete, and View Screenshots.
- Start begins or resumes scheduled work.
- Stop pauses future captures while keeping the job and its history.
- View Screenshots opens the captures associated with the job for review.
- Delete permanently deletes the job and its related screenshots.
Download captures you need to keep before deleting a job. The schedule documentation describes storage and review, but it does not establish a fixed retention period or guarantee that stored screenshots are tamper-proof or legally admissible.

Choose how to detect a change
Visual changes
Compare screenshots when the change you care about is visual: layout, styling, a newly appearing banner, or a page state. Inspect the same URL with the same relevant capture settings each time. Otherwise, a changed viewport, locale, cookie state, or rendering condition can look like a site change. A visual difference can also be incidental, so decide whether to review it manually or filter it in your own comparison step.

For prices, headlines, and other text, use the documented text or HTML extraction capability and compare the current extracted result with a prior one. Text comparison can be easier to process than image differences, but your workflow still needs rules for what to ignore and what to flag—for example, surrounding text that changes without affecting the value you track.
Numeric search rankings

- Retrieve or review the new screenshot or extracted text alongside the prior observation.
- Compare the relevant visual region or text, rather than treating every pixel or page-wide difference as meaningful.
- Apply a threshold or review rule suited to the consequence of missing a change versus receiving a false alarm.
- Send a notification from your own script or workflow only when that rule is met.
For low-stakes monitoring, manual review of the history may be sufficient. For actionable alerts, test the complete path—including capture, comparison, and delivery—using the actual page and the notification destination you intend to use.
Troubleshoot incomplete or noisy monitoring
- The capture misses a dynamic section: the page may not have rendered it when the screenshot ran, or it may require interaction. Test load timing and the documented selector-click option, then verify the actual capture.
- The screenshot differs even though the content did not: check that viewport, cookies, CSS, geolocation, timezone, and other relevant rendering settings are consistent. Decide whether the difference is material before alerting.
- Text extraction is empty or irrelevant: confirm that the target content is present in the rendered page and select an extraction approach appropriate to the page. The Query Builder documents HTML and text extraction, but the right configuration depends on the site.
- You expected an automatic change notification: scheduled captures provide observations for review. Configure a separate comparison and alert workflow if you need automatic notifications.
- You deleted a job and lost its history: deletion permanently removes related screenshots. Stop the job to pause future captures while retaining the job history, or download important captures before deletion.
- You need a numeric SERP position: use rank data alongside screenshots; a rendered image is not a structured ranking data feed.
