On a supported Galaxy Tab, open Quick Settings and tap DeX to use a desktop-style workspace on the tablet itself; you do not need an external monitor. Touch and S Pen work, while a keyboard and mouse are optional. If you want a bigger screen, check that your exact tablet supports the wired or wireless connection you plan to use.
Choose where you want to use DeX

Start standalone DeX from Quick Settings
- Open Quick Settings: Swipe down from the top-right of the screen with two fingers.
- Tap DeX: The desktop workspace loads on the tablet, with apps available in pop-up windows.
- If the button says Wireless DeX: Touch and hold it, open Quick panel button, then choose Switch to desktop workspace.
Button names and placement can vary by software version. Samsung advises saving your work before opening or closing DeX: apps running during the transition will close.
Use the Home-screen launch route on newer software
Samsung documents a Home-screen route for Galaxy Tabs running Android 16 with One UI 8.0 or higher. Open an app, then swipe down on the horizontal header bar at the top center of its window to put the app in pop-up view. From there, move or resize windows to arrange multiple apps.
Choose your controls
You can use the touchscreen or S Pen without buying any accessories. For a more traditional desktop feel, Samsung also supports a USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or a keyboard cover compatible with your exact tablet model.

Not every touchpad gesture works in DeX: Samsung notes, for example, that two-finger pinch-to-zoom is not supported. Check accessory fit before buying a keyboard cover.
Connect DeX to a TV or monitor
External-display support is model-specific. Verify your tablet’s wired and wireless capabilities on Samsung’s current support information for your region before choosing a cable, adapter, or display setup.

Connect wirelessly
- On the tablet, open Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly.
- Select a compatible TV or smart monitor.
- Approve the on-screen prompts to complete the connection.
Connect by cable
- Connect the tablet to an HDMI display using a suitable DeX/HDMI cable or connection path.
- Follow the prompt on the tablet to start DeX on the display.
The required cable or adapter depends on the tablet and display. Do not assume that USB-C on a tablet guarantees HDMI video output: Samsung’s U.S. FAQ says the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, S9 FE+, S10 FE, S10 FE+, and S10 Lite do not support HDMI output. Samsung also lists wireless-compatible tablet families separately, so HDMI capability should not be treated as proof of wireless compatibility, or vice versa. Availability and settings can vary by device, software, and region.

Samsung describes workspace setup in standalone mode and with an external display for Android 16 with One UI 8.0, with up to four workspaces. This is a version-specific feature; do not assume the same workspace controls are available on older DeX software.

Before switching modes
- Save documents and other active work before opening or closing DeX, because running apps will be closed during the transition.
- For an external display, confirm support for your exact tablet model and the connection type you intend to use.
- If you are looking for DeX for PC, note that Samsung says it is no longer supported on devices released with or updated to One UI 7 or later; it is not the general current route for those devices.
