To run a Tamil devotional playlist as a 24/7 YouTube live stream with OBS, create a YouTube live event, connect OBS using YouTube’s stream key, build a scene with rights-cleared audio and visuals, choose stable encoder settings, and test the stream before making it public. Your computer, power, internet connection, OBS, and media source must remain available for the broadcast to continue; OBS does not make a home setup failure-proof. YouTube also does not promise one automatic replay for a stream longer than 12 hours.

1. Check that your channel can go live

Before preparing the broadcast, open YouTube Studio and check access to live streaming. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so confirm that Live Control Room is available well before your intended start. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

2. Prepare the playlist and clear the rights

Gather the devotional recordings and artwork you intend to broadcast. Use only material you have permission to stream, including the particular recording, arrangement, performance, and visual—not just the underlying song. A devotional or traditional song, or a recording already available on YouTube, is not automatically free to rebroadcast. Check that permissions cover livestreaming in your intended territories and any replay or archive you plan to keep.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A matched broadcast may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated if the issue remains. If a rights owner has licensed the tracks to you, ask them to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist; YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if it is not allowlisted. Keep written permission and contact the rights owner if a match appears. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

3. Create the YouTube live event and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live and create or schedule the stream. Set its title, visibility, and other event details before launch.
  2. In Live Control Room, choose the encoder workflow and locate the stream connection details. You can connect OBS through its YouTube service integration, or copy the stream URL and stream key for manual setup.
  3. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select the YouTube service if using the integration and follow its connection flow; otherwise choose the appropriate custom/server option, then enter YouTube’s stream URL and key as requested by the current OBS interface.
  4. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it publicly. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS before streaming.

Keep Live Control Room open during setup: it is where you confirm that YouTube is receiving the encoder feed and check stream health. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the stream URL/key workflow and Live Control Room process: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

4. Build a simple OBS scene for devotional audio

For a playlist with a mostly static image, one scene is usually enough. In OBS, add an image source for a rights-cleared background or devotional artwork. You may add a text source for the channel or devotional identifier; keep text readable on a phone screen and avoid implying that a performer or rights holder endorses the stream unless authorized.

Add the media or audio source that will provide the playlist. Arrange sources in the Sources list so that visual elements appear in the intended order. Watch the Audio Mixer while the media plays: the meter should move, and the source must be routed to the stream. Check that the audio is neither silent nor clipping, and listen to a representative section through headphones and on another device.

OBS sources, scene composition, audio routing, recording, and reconnect controls are covered in the OBS Studio Overview Guide. The exact media-source looping behavior depends on how the playlist is provided and configured. Verify it in your own setup; there is no universal OBS playlist recipe established here that guarantees an endless loop.

5. Choose output settings your connection can sustain

Use YouTube’s encoder settings as a baseline, then test your actual upload connection. For a largely still devotional visual, 30 fps is a sensible starting point; 60 fps generally adds little for a static scene. Select a resolution your upload connection can sustain without instability. YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval (not more than 4 seconds), with AAC or MP3 audio.

Setting Practical starting point What to check
Video codec and resolution H.264 at 1080p30 if the upload connection supports it For H.264 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for live ingestion. This is not a promise of the quality viewers will receive.
Rate control CBR Keep the output bitrate steady and within the relevant YouTube recommendation for your codec and resolution.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
Protocol RTMPS YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP.
Audio AAC or MP3 Confirm that the correct source is active and the audio remains clear throughout a representative test.

These are YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026. A 720p output can be a better choice than 1080p if a real upload-speed test shows that it is more stable. Leave headroom for normal network variation rather than treating a speed-test peak as guaranteed capacity. Consult YouTube’s full codec-specific table before choosing a bitrate for a different resolution or codec: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

6. Test, start, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Play a representative portion of the playlist and confirm that OBS shows the intended picture and moving audio meters.
  2. Start streaming in OBS while the YouTube event is open. Wait for Live Control Room to show that it is receiving the feed, then review stream health before making the event public.
  3. Check the broadcast from a separate phone, computer, or browser session. Confirm picture, audio, title, and visibility from a viewer’s perspective.
  4. During operation, check both stream health and the media source. Keep a person responsible for responding to a stopped playlist, lost connection, OBS crash, power failure, or YouTube warning.

OBS and YouTube both advise testing before the actual broadcast. OBS includes an automatic reconnect option among its advanced settings, but test its behavior in your own setup rather than assuming that it will recover every failure. A 24/7 home stream depends on the computer, power, network, OBS process, media source, and YouTube connection all remaining available.

7. Plan separately for recordings and replays

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise that a single continuous stream longer than 12 hours will become one replay. If an automatic replay matters, consider shorter sessions. If you need your own copy, configure and test OBS recording separately, check available disk space and expected storage use, and verify that recordings are actually being saved. Long-duration recording reliability and storage capacity depend on your local computer and configuration.

Common problems and fixes

  • YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: confirm the selected service or server, stream URL, and current stream key. If the key was reset, replace the saved OBS value. Check that the channel has live access enabled.
  • Live Control Room reports poor stream health: run an upload test, reduce resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the selected output, and use YouTube’s codec-specific recommendations. Check for network interruptions rather than increasing bitrate blindly.
  • There is video but no devotional audio: verify the media/audio source is active, its mixer meter moves, and it is routed to the stream. Check mute controls and listen to the live output from a second device.
  • The playlist stops or does not repeat: verify the media source’s loop configuration and test through the end of the playlist before going live. The correct setup depends on the source and configuration; do not assume a playlist will repeat just because the first item plays.
  • The stream is interrupted by a copyright notice: stop or replace the matched material, review the notice, and contact the rights owner. For licensed content, confirm the channel has been added to the Content ID allowlist. Do not restart with the same material until the rights issue is addressed.
  • The broadcast disconnects while unattended: identify whether the cause is power, computer sleep, network loss, OBS, the media source, or YouTube. Test OBS reconnect behavior and any local recovery steps before relying on them for an unattended broadcast.
