To use Larix Broadcaster with an RTMP relay for YouTube Live, configure two separate publishing legs: Larix sends video to the relay’s ingest URL and credential; the relay sends that feed to YouTube’s ingest URL and stream key. Use the relay’s exact connection details, choose YouTube RTMPS for the outbound connection, and test the entire path before the broadcast.

How the Larix-to-YouTube relay path works

  1. Larix → relay: Larix publishes your phone camera feed to an ingest endpoint provided by the relay administrator.
  2. Relay → YouTube: The relay forwards the incoming feed to the RTMPS URL and stream key for your YouTube broadcast.
  3. YouTube Live Control Room: YouTube reports whether it is receiving the forwarded stream and displays stream-health information.

These are separate connections with separate credentials. Do not use YouTube’s stream key in Larix unless the relay administrator has explicitly configured it as the relay’s inbound credential. The relay’s setup instructions depend on the chosen software or service; there is no universal server configuration or port layout. See Softvelum’s Larix documentation and YouTube’s live stream API documentation.

Configure Larix Broadcaster to publish to the relay

  1. Ask the relay administrator for its ingest protocol (RTMP or RTMPS), hostname, port if required, application path, and stream name or key. Confirm whether the relay expects TLS and whether it requires a full URL or separate server and stream-name fields.
  2. In Larix Broadcaster, open Connections and add a publishing connection. Select RTMP or RTMPS to match the relay’s instructions.
  3. Enter the relay’s endpoint and credential in the form Larix requests. A connection URL may consist of a protocol, server or domain, optional port, application name, and stream name/key. If Larix expects one full URL, combine the relay-provided parts only as directed by its administrator.
  4. Save the connection and start publishing. Verify at the relay that it is receiving the feed before moving on to YouTube.

Larix’s fields and available encoding options can differ by platform, device, and app build. Softvelum describes H.264/AVC video and AAC audio support; HEVC transmission through Enhanced RTMP is a premium feature on supported devices. Use settings actually available in your version of Larix and on your phone. Softvelum’s Larix mobile overview

Set the relay’s YouTube output

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and the settings for the stream you intend to broadcast.
  2. In Stream settings, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL using the lock icon in the Stream URL field. YouTube may initially display an RTMP address; select or reveal the RTMPS variant when configuring secure ingest.
  3. Copy the corresponding YouTube stream key and enter it in the relay’s outbound destination settings. If the relay accepts a single destination URL, follow its instructions for combining the ingest address and key; some encoders use the pattern STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME.
  4. Save the output and start or enable forwarding. Confirm in YouTube Live Control Room that the relay’s feed arrives and the stream status is healthy.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension to RTMP. Use the current URL and key shown for the selected stream in Control Room; YouTube’s API distinguishes primary and backup ingest addresses, so use the address that matches the stream and protocol you selected. Choose video, audio, bitrate, and keyframe settings

Set the phone encoder’s output to a format YouTube supports and that your device and mobile uplink can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and AAC or MP3 audio. Larix may not expose every YouTube codec option on every device.

  • Video codec and frame rate: Select a codec and frame rate available in Larix that match your intended output and YouTube’s guidance. Do not assume a codec listed by YouTube is available in your Larix build.
  • Bitrate: Use YouTube’s live bitrate chart for the specific codec, resolution, and frame rate you are sending. There is no single recommended bitrate for every stream. Keep the target within the phone’s sustained upload capacity; a bitrate that exceeds it can cause frame loss or interruptions.
  • Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
  • Audio: Use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and confirm the phone feed actually includes audio.

Larix’s FAQ says it uses the selected target bitrate; poor network conditions can cause RTMP/RTSP frame loss, and supported adaptive-bitrate options may help. Test with the same resolution, frame rate, and network conditions expected for the event. YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance · Softvelum Larix FAQ

Run a full-path preflight

  1. Start Larix with a representative scene that includes movement and the audio you plan to use.
  2. Confirm the relay receives the Larix feed, then confirm it forwards that feed to YouTube.
  3. In YouTube Live Control Room, check that the stream is arriving and review the health indicators for bitrate, video, audio, and other warnings.
  4. Resolve any warnings and repeat the test before the event. YouTube recommends testing the broadcast and monitoring stream health.

Troubleshoot common relay problems

Larix cannot connect to the relay

Check the relay-provided hostname, port, application path, protocol, and inbound key for typing errors. Confirm that the phone can reach the host on its current network. If the relay is on a private network and the phone is outside it, routing, firewall, or router NAT/port-forwarding configuration may be needed; this is not a requirement for every relay setup.

The relay receives video, but YouTube does not

Check the relay’s outbound destination separately from Larix’s inbound connection. Verify that the relay is using the current YouTube RTMPS URL and the stream key for the intended broadcast, then inspect Control Room for stream-status and health messages.

An RTMPS or SSL error appears

Confirm you copied the RTMPS address from YouTube’s Stream settings rather than using an RTMP address, and make sure the relay supports the selected protocol. YouTube notes that specifying port 443 can help with some SSL errors if the URL and encoder allow it; use the actual hostname and path shown in Control Room rather than substituting an example address. YouTube encoder settings

Video arrives without sound

Check whether the Larix feed includes audio and whether the relay forwards it. YouTube’s API identifies a missing audio stream as a stream configuration issue; AAC or MP3 are the audio options listed in YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance.

Protect the two stream credentials

The relay needs its own inbound credential for Larix and a separate YouTube key for outbound publishing. Limit access to the YouTube key and rotate it through YouTube if it is exposed. How credentials are stored and protected varies by relay; check that product’s documentation rather than assuming it provides a particular security feature.
