You can use Dropbox videos in an always-on YouTube stream by making the files available to a local encoder such as OBS, or by using a cloud streaming service that accepts Dropbox as a source. The local method keeps your computer and internet connection in the streaming chain; a hosted service moves that work to a provider. A Dropbox share link is not automatically a reliable, direct video feed, so confirm that your chosen workflow can access and keep playing the files before relying on it.
Choose how the Dropbox videos will reach YouTube

Check YouTube eligibility before configuring the stream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. Confirm eligibility and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio before setting up a continuous broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
YouTube also limits simultaneous broadcasts: a channel can have up to 10 active streams, and a stream key can be used for up to 3 active streams at once. Plan around these caps if you run more than one broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s live encoder settings and limits.
Prepare Dropbox access for the streaming workflow
Use a shared link only if the service can consume it
Dropbox documents two useful link parameters: dl=1 forces a download, while raw=1 bypasses the preview and renders the file in a browser. A consumer using a raw=1 URL must follow redirects. Preserve the link’s existing access settings and permissions; a link that opens in your browser is not necessarily accepted by an encoder or streaming service. Test with the actual account or service that will fetch the media.

Dropbox describes these link behaviors, but does not promise that ordinary shared links function as a 24/7 streaming CDN. A link can also be revoked or restricted. See Dropbox’s instructions for forcing downloads or rendering shared links.
Use the API for a managed integration
If you are building a custom integration, Dropbox’s get_shared_link_file endpoint retrieves the file content and requires the sharing.read scope. This requires authorized API access and token handling; it is not a plug-and-play OBS feature. See the Dropbox API documentation for get_shared_link_file.

Dropbox temporary file links can be used to stream file content, but they expire after four hours and return 410 Gone afterward. An always-on integration must renew the link before it expires and handle failures; a single temporary URL is not a durable source. See Dropbox’s temporary-link documentation.
Set up the local encoder route
- Confirm channel access. Verify the channel, make sure live streaming is enabled, and check that no restriction in the previous 90 days prevents going live.
- Make the video available to the computer. Use files accessible locally through Dropbox or another supported file source. Do not assume OBS can open a Dropbox share URL directly; the reviewed guidance does not establish that integration. If using a URL or custom source, test it with the exact setup before scheduling.
- Configure the encoder for YouTube. In OBS or another encoder, select YouTube as the destination and use the server and stream key shown by YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed. Follow YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the settings appropriate to your video and connection; the available sources do not establish a Dropbox-specific bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or OBS profile.
- Build and test playback. Arrange the video or playlist in the encoder, then make a short test broadcast before relying on continuous playback. Confirm that the intended Dropbox files can be read and that playback continues as expected. The reviewed sources do not establish a tested end-to-end Dropbox-to-OBS configuration.
- Keep the system operating and monitor it. Leave the computer, encoder, and network connection running. Watch encoder and YouTube health indicators; OBS notes that unstable connectivity or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain can cause dropped frames.
Set up a cloud-hosted Dropbox workflow
- Choose a provider and verify its current plan. OneStream Live’s help article describes selecting videos from cloud storage, including Dropbox, for a 24/7 YouTube stream and identifies the feature as an Enterprise-plan feature. Check the provider’s current plan, interface, and terms before subscribing.
- Connect or select the Dropbox media. Use the provider’s supported Dropbox connection or link method and confirm that its service can access the files under their current permissions.
- Configure the YouTube destination. Add the YouTube stream details requested by the service, keeping the stream key private.
- Test before depending on it. Start a short test, verify that the video plays and YouTube receives the broadcast, then check how the service handles an inaccessible or changed file. The available vendor guidance does not establish guaranteed uptime, link-refresh behavior, or recovery performance.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
Dropbox access is not permission to rebroadcast a video. Use only material for which you hold the necessary streaming rights, including music and other third-party content. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt or terminate a stream. If you have a license, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID; YouTube explains this in its live-stream copyright guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The video link opens in a browser but not in the service: The service may not follow redirects, accept Dropbox links, or have permission to the file. Check access from the consuming account, try the supported download or rendering behavior, and confirm the provider accepts that URL format.
- A Dropbox API link stops working after several hours: Temporary links expire after four hours. Renew the link before expiry and handle the expired-link response rather than reusing the old URL.
- The local stream drops frames or disconnects: Check the computer’s network stability and whether the configured bitrate is sustainable. OBS identifies unstable connectivity and an unsustainable bitrate as causes of dropped frames.
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: Check verification status, whether live streaming has been enabled, and whether a restriction occurred within the prior 90 days.
- The broadcast is interrupted despite a license: YouTube’s matching systems can still detect licensed third-party material. Contact the rights owner about allowlisting the channel through Content ID.
- You cannot start another broadcast: Check whether the channel already has 10 active streams or the stream key has 3 active streams. Stop an unnecessary active stream or use a permitted configuration.
