Cyberpunk 2077 cannot run NVIDIA’s native DLSS runtime on an AMD Radeon GPU. The officially supported AMD solution is FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3, enabled from Settings → Graphics. If you specifically want a DLSS-labelled option, community wrappers can intercept the game’s DLSS selection and replace it with FSR or XeSS, while newer experimental projects attempt to run DLSS neural-rendering code through an AMD compatibility layer.
These projects are not vendor-supported DLSS, and their image quality, compatibility and speed depend on the wrapper, game build, driver and Radeon model. The safest procedure is to back up Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64, remove other upscaling DLL mods, install one current project at a time and keep the native FSR route available for recovery.
What “DLSS on AMD” actually means
DLSS is NVIDIA’s reconstruction and frame-generation technology. An AMD card does not have NVIDIA Tensor cores or an official AMD-supported DLSS runtime, so there is no game setting or AMD driver switch that turns native DLSS on. Selecting DLSS through a compatibility project is different: the wrapper presents or preserves the game’s DLSS-labelled path, then substitutes another upscaler or translates calls before the frame is produced.
For a normal Radeon installation, CD PROJEKT RED’s supported route is AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3. The developer introduced FSR 3 in Patch 2.13. FSR 3 combines upscaling with frame generation, and the two controls are separate in the graphics menu. Frame Generation is available only when FSR 3 upscaling is enabled.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
That distinction matters when you judge results. A wrapper may let the menu say “DLSS,” but it does not give an AMD GPU NVIDIA hardware acceleration. Treat the result as DLSS through a wrapper, DLSS-labelled output or a replacement layer, not official AMD DLSS support.
Which route should you choose?
| Route | What it does | Supported hardware or software position | Risk and best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native FSR 3 | Uses Cyberpunk 2077’s built-in AMD upscaling and optional frame generation. | FSR 3 upscaling is listed for Radeon RX 590 and newer; frame generation is listed for RX 5000-series and newer. AMD’s machine-learning FSR Upscaling listing targets RX 7000 and RX 9000 series. | Official, reversible and lowest risk. Use this when you want a dependable game-supported configuration. |
| FSR3 Frame Gen for Cyberpunk 2077 (DLSS Enabler 2077 Edition) with OptiScaler | Lets the game’s DLSS selection call FSR 2.1.2, FSR 2.2.1 or XeSS 1.3 instead, and can provide frame-generation features. | The project documentation describes AMD and Intel support and compatibility changes for DLSS 3.7.x-era files. | Community wrapper. Suitable for experimenting with a DLSS-labelled menu path, but DLL conflicts and updates require care. |
| DLSS-NR-on-AMD installer | Attempts to expose DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on AMD through a setup program and a user-supplied DLSS neural-rendering DLL. | Windows 11, DirectX 12, a game with FSR, Adrenalin 26.1.1 or later and a Radeon RX 9000 card are the stated requirements. RX 7000 cards are reported as expected to work; older GPUs are not currently supported. | Experimental work in progress. Use only if you accept incomplete effects, narrow hardware support and manual DLL handling. |
| HelixSR | Makes a patched game continue to believe it is using FSR 3.1 while replacing the upscaling algorithm with DLSS 3.7 Model E. | Coverage and release requirements change with the upstream project. | Fast-moving community tool. Follow the current upstream release instructions rather than copying commands from an old report. |
For most players, start with native FSR 3. Move to a wrapper only when you have a specific reason—such as testing a different reconstruction model or using a feature absent from your current build—and keep a clean copy of the original game files.
Prepare Cyberpunk 2077 before installing a wrapper
Back up the executable-side files
Close the game and your launcher. Copy the entire Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64 folder to a separate location, or use your launcher’s file-verification feature to restore stock files later. Also record which mods are currently installed. A backup gives you a known-good way back if the game crashes before the menu appears.
Remove competing upscaling and frame-generation mods
Do not stack multiple projects that replace the same DLLs. The DLSS Enabler documentation specifically warns about Nukem’s dlssg-to-fsr3, LukeFZ’s FSR2FSR3 or Uniscaler, and older DLSS Enabler versions. Remove those packages first, including leftover files in bin/x64, then install one current package. If you are unsure which files belong to a previous mod, restore the backed-up folder or verify the game before trying again.
Update the prerequisites that affect frame generation
- Use a current Radeon driver appropriate for your GPU.
- For the official FSR 3 route, enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Windows if your system supports it.
- For frame generation, CD PROJEKT RED recommends entering the feature with at least 60 frames per second and using a display with a 120 Hz or higher refresh rate.
- For DLSS-NR-on-AMD, use Windows 11, DirectX 12, Adrenalin 26.1.1 or later and a compatible RX 9000 (or reportedly RX 7000) card.
Route A: install DLSS Enabler 2077 Edition and use OptiScaler
This is the most documented Cyberpunk-specific wrapper route in the supplied material. It integrates OptiScaler so the game can retain a DLSS-labelled selection while the actual reconstruction is changed to FSR or XeSS.

- Download the current Cyberpunk-specific package. Use the project’s current Nexus instructions rather than an archived file. Versions and required DLLs change.
- Install into the game’s executable directory. The relevant path is
Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64/. Preserve your backup before replacing anything. - Launch Cyberpunk 2077 and enable the desired features. The documented flow is to enable FSR 3 Frame Generation and/or the upscaler option exposed by the mod, then start a game session.
- Open OptiScaler in the game. Press
Homewhile you are actively in gameplay. The documentation specifies that the key must be pressed in-game, not while the pause menu is open. - Replace the DLSS selection. In the game’s graphics settings, select DLSS. Open the OptiScaler interface with
Home, choose FSR or XeSS, save the configuration and pressHomeagain to close the overlay. - Keep the configuration file in mind. OptiScaler settings can also be edited in
Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64/nvngx.ini. Change one setting at a time and keep a copy of a working file. - Test a repeatable scene. Use the same save, location and graphics preset after each change. Look for menu stability, shimmering, ghosting, input lag and frame-time spikes rather than judging only the displayed average FPS.
The project documentation records changes involving DLSS 3.7.x compatibility, removal of NVIDIA-signature registry keys after using its setup application and an OptiScaler interface for DLSS, FSR and XeSS. Those details are version-sensitive, so read the release notes that accompany the build you install.

Route B: DLSS-NR-on-AMD (experimental neural-rendering installer)
A separate community project targets DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on AMD. Its README describes a more restrictive installation and does not present the feature as complete or vendor-supported.
- Confirm the hardware and operating-system requirements. The stated baseline is Windows 11, DirectX 12, a game that has FSR, Adrenalin driver 26.1.1 or later and an AMD Radeon RX 9000 card. RX 7000 cards are reported as expected to work, while older GPUs are not currently supported.
- Place the installer. Copy
dlssnr_on_amd_setup.exeintoCyberpunk 2077/bin/x64. - Supply your own legitimate DLL. Place your lawfully obtained
nvngx_dlssnr.dllin the same folder. The project says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by NVIDIA or AMD. - Run setup. Execute the setup program from that folder and follow its current prompts. Do not substitute DLLs from an unrelated build.
- Start the game and enable FSR. The README says to enable any FSR 3 or FSR 4 mode or quality, including FSRAA.
- Open the overlay. Press
Endwhile in the game to open the project’s interface.
The project reports Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V Enhanced as tested titles, but it also says output effects are not yet 100% functional. A work-in-progress report lists approximately 33 FPS at 1080p on an RX 9070 XT. That is one project report, not an independent benchmark or a prediction for every Radeon card, preset or scene.

Games protected by anti-cheat may block this kind of DLL. Cyberpunk 2077’s single-player workflow does not normally create that concern, but do not carry the files into an online anti-cheat game without checking its rules.
Route C: HelixSR script report
PC Gamer reported on 14 October 2026 that HelixSR makes patched games appear to remain on FSR 3.1 while replacing the upscaling algorithm with DLSS 3.7 Model E. The report says AMD performs the upscaling on regular shader cores because Radeon cards do not have NVIDIA Tensor cores, and the author observed a slight performance decrease in testing. HelixSR reportedly includes a pre-packaged uninstall batch script.
This is a report about a fast-moving community tool, not a fixed Cyberpunk feature. Obtain the current HelixSR release and its upstream installation instructions before changing game files. Do not invent a file list or command from an older version: wrapper entry points, required DLL names and supported game patches can change. Keep the uninstall batch file with the installation and test it before you need it.
Use the official AMD path when you want reliability
To configure Cyberpunk 2077 without a wrapper, open Settings → Graphics and select an FSR 3 upscaling mode. Then enable the separate Frame Generation switch if your GPU and driver meet the game’s requirements. CD PROJEKT RED recommends beginning frame generation at a real 60 FPS or higher, using a 120 Hz-or-higher display and enabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling. Keep the Radeon driver current.
AMD’s compatibility table lists FSR 3 upscaling from Radeon RX 590 onward and frame generation from RX 5000-series and newer. AMD separately lists machine-learning FSR Upscaling for RX 7000 and RX 9000 series. These are compatibility categories, not a promise that every preset will reach a particular frame rate.

How to evaluate a wrapper without fooling yourself
Separate rendered frames from generated frames
Frame generation can increase the displayed frame count while the game is still rendering fewer genuine frames. Check input responsiveness and frame-time consistency, not only the counter in the corner. If the base rate is below the recommended 60 FPS, generated frames may make motion look smoother but can leave controls feeling delayed or artifacts more visible.
Check difficult image areas
- Thin neon signs, wires and railings reveal shimmer and breakup.
- Fast camera pans expose ghost trails behind vehicles and characters.
- Rain, smoke, hair and foliage show temporal instability.
- Reflections and path-traced lighting can expose differences between a replacement upscaler and the game’s normal path.
Record the conditions
When comparing native FSR with a wrapper, keep resolution, ray-tracing options, preset, sharpness, frame-generation state, driver version and game patch unchanged. A result from one RX 9070 XT at 1080p cannot be generalized to an RX 6800 at 1440p or to a later wrapper build.

The game crashes on startup
- Remove every older upscaling or frame-generation mod listed in the project’s conflict warnings.
- Restore the backed-up
bin/x64folder or verify the game files. - Reinstall only the current wrapper, then test before adding any other mod.
- Check
dlss-enabler.logif using DLSS Enabler and the diagnostic launch arguments.
The DLSS option is missing
Confirm that the package was installed in Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64, not the top-level game folder or a mod-manager staging directory. Check whether another mod has replaced the same DLL and verify that the game build is one supported by the current release.
Home does nothing in OptiScaler
Press Home during active gameplay, not in the pause menu. If the overlay still does not appear, confirm that the wrapper loaded, then inspect its log and configuration file. Another overlay or keybinding may also be intercepting the key; temporarily disable competing overlays to test.
The picture is worse or performance falls
Return to native FSR 3 and compare the same scene. Wrapper output varies by implementation and GPU. PC Gamer’s HelixSR report observed a slight performance decrease, while the DLSS-NR-on-AMD project’s approximately 33 FPS figure is only a work-in-progress report for an RX 9070 XT at 1080p. Neither figure establishes a universal result.

The game will not update
Restore stock files before applying a major game patch. After updating, check the wrapper’s current release notes and reinstall only if the project explicitly supports the new build. Keeping modified DLLs in place can cause verification errors or crashes.
Uninstall and return to a clean installation
- Exit the game and launcher.
- Run the project’s supplied uninstall script or setup uninstaller, if one exists.
- Remove wrapper DLLs and configuration files that the project identifies as installed files. Do not delete unrelated mods without checking their ownership.
- Restore your original
Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64backup, or use the launcher’s file verification to reacquire official files. - Launch with native FSR 3 before reinstalling anything else. This confirms that the game itself is healthy.
A clean restore is especially important before moving between DLSS Enabler, DLSS-NR-on-AMD and HelixSR, because each can intercept the same rendering path in a different way.
Decision checklist
- Choose native FSR 3 if you want official support, broad Radeon coverage and a reversible menu setting.
- Choose DLSS Enabler with OptiScaler if you specifically need a DLSS-labelled selection that substitutes FSR or XeSS and are comfortable managing DLL conflicts.
- Choose DLSS-NR-on-AMD only with compatible Windows, driver and Radeon hardware, and only if you accept incomplete effects and experimental behavior.
- Consider HelixSR only after reading its current upstream instructions; the tool and supported game builds are changing quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does selecting DLSS in the mod menu give an AMD card native Tensor-core DLSS?
No. The wrapper translates or replaces the game’s DLSS path. AMD renders the result with its own hardware, such as shader cores, so this is not vendor-supported NVIDIA DLSS.
Can I install DLSS Enabler and DLSS-NR-on-AMD together?
Do not combine them unless the current project documentation explicitly says they are compatible. Both can replace the same rendering interfaces, and the safer recovery method is to restore stock files before switching projects.
What should I do if a future Cyberpunk 2077 patch breaks the script?
Restore the original files, verify the game, and wait for a wrapper release that lists the new game build as supported. Avoid copying DLLs or commands from an older release.
Is frame generation useful when the base frame rate is low?
It can raise the displayed frame count, but CD PROJEKT RED recommends at least 60 real FPS before enabling FSR 3 Frame Generation so responsiveness and artifact control remain acceptable.
