Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →An old Android TV box may be able to play video, but that does not mean it can capture its own playback and broadcast it continuously to YouTube. YouTube’s documented routes use an encoder (software or hardware), a webcam, or a mobile device; Google’s Android live-streaming guide describes camera-and-microphone broadcasts, not capturing TV-box playback. Treat a box-only setup as unverified unless the exact model and app explicitly support the capture, encoding, and transmission you need.
The more dependable architecture to investigate is a rights-cleared video source routed through compatible capture hardware to a separate computer or hardware encoder, which then sends the stream to YouTube. A capture card alone is not an encoder, and it does not grant permission to rebroadcast what the box plays.
Can an Android TV box itself run a 24/7 YouTube stream?
There is no general, documented Android TV-box workflow in the YouTube and Google guidance cited here for capturing the box’s own screen or playback, encoding it, and sending it continuously to YouTube Live. YouTube describes encoder streaming as a production feed sent through streaming software or hardware. Google’s Android live guidance covers broadcasting from an Android mobile device with a camera, microphone, hardware encoders, and a compatible YouTube app; it does not establish that an Android TV box can do the same with app playback.
In practical terms, playback and broadcasting are separate jobs. A box that runs YouTube or another video app is not necessarily able to capture that output, create a live stream, or maintain it unattended. Capabilities vary by model, firmware, apps, and the video source, so verify those specifics before buying equipment or planning an always-on channel. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the documented encoder workflow at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder; Google’s Android guidance is at Initiating YouTube Live Streams on Android Devices.

Choose a setup that separates playback from encoding
Box-only attempt
Use this only if the exact box offers a supported capability that can capture the intended output, encode it, and transmit a YouTube stream. Confirm that it can use YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and that the source is permitted to be captured and rebroadcast. A television interface or playback app by itself is not evidence of those capabilities.
Box, capture hardware, and a separate encoder
If the box produces an output that can lawfully and technically be captured, connect it to compatible capture hardware and a computer or standalone encoder. The encoder—not the capture card—handles the stream connection to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key, then starts the broadcast from the encoder and manages it in Live Control Room.
Compatibility is model- and source-specific. The guidance cited here does not establish whether a particular box’s output can be captured, whether app output is protected, or whether a particular capture device and encoder will work together. Check the box, source app, capture hardware, and encoder documentation before relying on this path. Do not assume a capture card bypasses output protection.
Cloud encoding for prerecorded video
If the goal is to play uploaded recordings as a continuous YouTube stream, a cloud service is another architecture: it processes and sends the prerecorded feed without relying on the TV box to capture its own playback. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; that listing does not establish compatibility with an Android TV box or suitability for a particular channel.

How to compare your options
- Does the exact box or encoder have a documented way to capture or accept the source?
- Do you have the rights to capture and rebroadcast every video and sound in the feed?
- Do you already have a computer or standalone encoder, and can it remain available for the intended schedule?
- How will you detect interruptions and recover the stream? Test this rather than assuming uninterrupted operation.
- Does the plan depend on one long archive, or will shorter replays meet your needs?
- Will the stream be Made for Kids, and do the associated feature limits fit the channel?
Set up the YouTube encoder path
YouTube’s official encoder workflow is the reference point for the separate-encoder setup. Exact controls differ by encoder, so follow its documentation for the fields and start/stop controls.
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Create and select Go live to begin the live setup. Verify the channel and check its live-streaming eligibility. YouTube says first-time live enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until just before a planned launch. Its current eligibility guidance also says the channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. See Get started with live streaming.
- Prepare a permitted source. Confirm you have the necessary rights for all video, music, and other material. If using an Android TV box, first verify that the output can be captured by your chosen hardware without relying on unsupported assumptions about app playback.
- Connect the source to the encoder. For a capture setup, connect the box’s output to compatible capture hardware and connect that hardware to the computer or encoder. Select the capture input in the encoder. For uploaded prerecorded material, use an encoder or service designed to accept that material directly.
- Copy YouTube’s stream details into the encoder. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder fields. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the channel’s stream.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start sending from the encoder, then confirm the incoming picture and audio in Live Control Room before making the stream public or scheduling it. Use the controls in the encoder and Live Control Room to manage the broadcast.
- Test the complete run. Check the source, audio, network connection, and recovery behavior for the full type of session you intend to run. A short successful test does not prove that a device will operate unattended around the clock.
YouTube describes the core role of an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The documentation establishes the server URL and stream-key workflow, but it does not prescribe one universal bitrate or resolution for every encoder and source. Use settings supported by your source, encoder, and available upload connection, and consult the encoder’s current guidance rather than treating a single setting as suitable for every setup.
Children’s content changes audience settings and features
Set the audience based on the content
The creator is responsible for choosing the audience setting. Mark content Made for Kids when it is directed to children; that can apply even when children are not the only or primary audience. The presence of a TV box, or describing a channel as “family,” does not by itself determine the setting. Apply YouTube’s guidance to the actual material and intended audience in Set your channel or video’s audience.
Plan around Made for Kids restrictions
YouTube disables or limits features on Made for Kids content, including live chat, comments, notifications, personalized ads, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. YouTube says contextual advertising may still appear, but personalized ads are not served on kids content. Do not plan a children’s stream around ordinary live-chat interaction or assume it will earn personalized-ad revenue. See Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming and the audience guidance above.

Do not treat a loop as a monetization shortcut
YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible under the existing policy. The policy applies to live streams as well as other video formats. A loop is not automatically prohibited just because it repeats, but a simple, repetitive stream may fail monetization review; originality and substantive variation matter. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies.
Clear rights before rebroadcasting
YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having the rights needed for worldwide use of live content, including applicable music rights; archived content is covered too. Having an app subscription, access to a public video, or ownership of the Android TV box does not itself show that you may retransmit the material. Check permission for every video, soundtrack, and other included work before building a stream around it. The terms are at Livestream terms and conditions.
If children appear on camera, YouTube says live streams featuring minors under 16 who are not visibly accompanied by an adult may be removed or have live chat disabled. A stream that matches another copyrighted live broadcast can also trigger restrictions. These are separate from whether the hardware is capable of sending a feed.
Plan for stream duration and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not describe a continuous 24-hour feed as one reliably archived 24-hour replay on that basis. If a complete archive matters, plan a separate recording or archive approach and verify it with the encoder and YouTube’s current controls; the cited guidance does not guarantee how a longer stream will be retained.

Troubleshoot the likely failure points
The TV box plays video, but the encoder sees no picture
The playback app and capture path may not support the required output, or the selected input may be wrong. Confirm the box’s output, capture-device compatibility, connections, and encoder input selection. Do not assume app playback is capturable; the available platform guidance does not settle model-specific output protection.
The encoder is not sending to YouTube
Check that the server URL and stream key were copied into the correct fields, that the key belongs to the selected stream, and that the encoder is online. If live streaming was only just enabled, allow for YouTube’s stated first-time activation window of up to 24 hours and recheck channel eligibility.
The stream starts but stops later
Check the source device, capture hardware, encoder computer or appliance, and network connection. For an always-on setup, test which component failed and how it can be recovered; no cited source promises that a TV box will withstand continuous operation.
The stream is live, but chat or monetization features are missing
Check whether the content is correctly designated Made for Kids. YouTube restricts several features on kids content, and personalized ads are not served there. Do not change the audience setting simply to restore features; it must reflect the content.
