Use a scheduled browser agent to open the same product listing, read its displayed price, and save a timestamped screenshot with the product and offer context. Compare observations only when the product variant, currency, delivery location, and relevant offer conditions match; treat blocked, ambiguous, or failed runs as errors to review, not as price data.

What a screenshot-based price monitor can—and cannot—tell you

A screenshot preserves what a page showed in one browser session. It is useful evidence for reviewing a change, but it does not prove that an offer was generally available, that you could buy at that price, or that the price remained available later. Stock, checkout eligibility, coupon terms, payment discounts, and delivery charges may affect the final amount.

Keep the image alongside the extracted value and the circumstances of the capture. If the price is unclear, the listing has changed, or the browser encounters a bot check or interstitial, record that outcome and flag it for review rather than guessing.

Choose how you want to monitor prices

Approach What it does Trade-offs to check
ScreenshotNeo (try first if you need screenshot capture by API) Returns a screenshot or PDF from a single GET request. Cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; only clean shots are billed. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents. ScreenshotNeo You still need a separate way to extract and validate the price, store observations, schedule checks, and send alerts. Check the retailer page and context rather than treating an image as proof of a purchasable offer.
Self-hosted Playwright browser automation Gives you control over navigation, price extraction, screenshot capture, storage, and alerts. Playwright documents screenshots to file, full-page screenshots, image buffers, and element screenshots. Playwright screenshot documentation Requires setup and maintenance when a retailer changes its page, plus a scheduler and honest handling of failures. A daily script is one possible schedule, not a universal recommendation.
Managed visual website monitoring Visualping is one example described as offering before/after comparisons, change alerts, and optional AI summaries. iTechGuides’ October 3, 2026 guide Verify that the service supports the retailer, selected page area, location context, check interval, and screenshot retention you need; those details are not established here.
Existing tracker app or extension A Google Play listing for Price History AI – Flipkart describes Amazon and Flipkart tracking, price history, target prices, and alerts. A Chrome Web Store listing for Price History – Price Tracker & Alerts describes tracking and alerts, with universal tracking identified as beta. Google Play listing; Chrome Web Store listing These are publisher claims, not independent tests. Confirm support for your exact product and store, and whether each check produces a retrievable screenshot if that is required.

Compare options on retailer coverage, exact variant matching, location and currency control, selected price area, check interval, screenshot retention or export, alert channels, privacy, failure reporting, maintenance, and current terms. Marketplace listings use phrases such as “Amazon Price Tracker,” “Flipkart Price Tracker,” “price history checker,” and “price-drop alert app”; those are listing terms, not measured search-query data.

Build a scheduled monitor with Playwright

The following Node.js example demonstrates a browser run that captures the listing and a selected price element. Retailer page structures differ, so replace the example selectors with ones verified against the exact listing. The script deliberately records a failed extraction instead of inventing a price. It saves each run as JSON plus a screenshot; add a scheduler and notification service appropriate to your environment.

1. Install Playwright

In a new project, install Playwright and its browser:

npm init -y
npm install playwright
npx playwright install chromium

2. Create the monitor script

Save this as monitor.mjs. Set PRODUCT_URL to the canonical product listing. The selectors are examples only; inspect the page and choose selectors that identify both the displayed price and product context.

Run it with environment variables so you can change the listing and selectors without editing the script:

PRODUCT_URL='https://www.example.in/product-page'
PRICE_SELECTOR='.price'
PRODUCT_SELECTOR='h1'
PRODUCT_VARIANT='Example model, 128 GB, blue'
DELIVERY_LOCATION='your chosen delivery location'
node monitor.mjs

The URL and selectors above are placeholders for your own listing, not claims about a retailer’s current page markup. Keep the delivery location consistent using the site’s normal controls when needed; the sample records a location label but does not set a retailer-specific pincode.

3. Choose the screenshot area

Playwright’s page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' }) saves a viewport screenshot. Set fullPage: true to capture the complete scrollable page, or capture just a price area with a locator:

A price-only crop can lose the product or offer context. If using an element screenshot, choose an area that also includes enough identifying information to review the observation. Playwright also supports returning screenshot image bytes in a buffer for later processing; none of these capture methods certifies that the extracted price is correct.

4. Schedule, retain, and compare observations

Run the script on a scheduler you control—such as a system task scheduler or hosted job runner—at an interval suitable for your use case and retailer behavior. There is no single interval that is right for every site. Retain the timestamped JSON and original screenshot together. Compare validated observations only when the variant, delivery context, currency, and offer basis are comparable.

For alerts, add a step after validation that checks your chosen target or change threshold. Include the displayed value, timestamp, listing link, and screenshot reference in the notification. Treat an unavailable page, missing selector, sign-in prompt, or bot check as a failed run, not as a price change. Before purchasing, reopen the live listing and check the current offer.

What to record so price comparisons are meaningful

Use one record per check, with fields that let you reconstruct what the agent saw and distinguish valid observations from failures:

  • Timestamp, canonical listing URL, and a stable product identifier if you have one.
  • Product name and exact variant, including size, color, capacity, or other distinguishing option.
  • Displayed price and currency, plus whether the page visibly associates it with a coupon, payment method, or other condition.
  • Delivery location or pincode context, locale, and any relevant availability text.
  • Screenshot filename or stored image reference, ideally preserving the original image.
  • Run status, such as captured, unavailable, ambiguous, blocked, or timeout, and an error detail when applicable.

Keep enough of the page visible to identify the item and the price. A scraped string without its context can silently become a comparison between different variants or different offers.

Handle common failures without inventing a price

Symptom Possible cause Response
Price selector times out The page is still loading, the selector is wrong, or the listing changed. Save a failure record and screenshot if possible; inspect the current page and update the selector only after confirming the intended price field.
Page shows an error, blank area, or unavailable message Temporary load failure, changed availability, or a page that did not render as expected. Mark the run accordingly. Do not substitute a stale value or interpret the error as a price.
Bot check, CAPTCHA, or sign-in/interstitial page appears The retailer is not presenting the product listing to this browser session. Stop treating the run as a product observation. Review the retailer’s current terms and permitted access methods; do not attempt to bypass access controls.
Unexpected jump in price Variant, location, currency, seller, offer, or selector may have changed. Compare the saved screenshot and context with the prior record, then validate the live listing before alerting or acting.
Screenshot exists but extracted text looks wrong The selector may point at a crossed-out price, installment amount, or unrelated page element. Review the image, refine the selector, and flag the affected observation rather than silently overwriting history.

Check retailer terms and access policies

Retailer rules and page behavior can change. Flipkart’s Terms of Use say that browsing or using the platform indicates agreement to its terms. That statement alone does not settle every question about automated access. Review each retailer’s current terms and policies before running automation. The available information here does not establish a definitive current rule for automated access to Amazon India.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a listing with one GET request; it returns a screenshot or PDF, while your own workflow still needs to interpret the price, store history, and decide when to alert. Its capture options include removing cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed, and responses identify page verdict and billing status with headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a screenshot prove a price drop is real?

No. It records what appeared in one browser session; check the live listing and offer conditions before purchasing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need to write a custom agent to track Amazon or Flipkart prices?

Not necessarily. Existing app and extension listings advertise price history and alerts for supported products, but verify store and product coverage and whether they retain screenshots.

How often should the monitor check a listing?

Choose an interval for your use case and retailer behavior; no universal frequency is established.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
