Upload a clear screenshot to an image-capable AI assistant, explain who the page is for and what you want visitors to do, then ask for evidence-based feedback against a short rubric. Treat the response as design hypotheses—not a conversion forecast—and verify every observation against the page.

What AI vision can—and cannot—tell you

An image-capable assistant can inspect a supplied screenshot and answer questions about visible content, hierarchy, text, and interface elements. The exact image-input options depend on the assistant: OpenAI documents image URLs, base64 data URLs, and file IDs for its API, while Anthropic and Google document their own image-input workflows. See the OpenAI image and vision guide, Anthropic vision documentation, and Google Gemini image-understanding documentation for the product you use.

A screenshot does not establish how visitors behave or whether a page converts. It cannot, by itself, show interaction behavior, loading performance, analytics, accessibility across conditions, or whether real users understand the offer. Use AI feedback to identify questions and possible revisions; validate them with design intent, analytics, usability checks, or user research as appropriate.

Prepare the right screenshots and context

  1. Capture the page in the viewport you want reviewed. If mobile and desktop layouts differ, capture each separately and ask for feedback in that device context. A full-page capture can show section order, while a viewport capture can make above-the-fold hierarchy easier to inspect.
  2. Make sure important text is readable. Use a clear capture and preserve enough image detail for the headline, supporting copy, and CTA to be read. OpenAI’s image-input FAQ warns that image resizing and unclear or small text can affect interpretation.
  3. Provide concise context in the prompt. State the intended audience, offer, primary conversion action, and whether the screenshot is desktop or mobile. Add the traffic source if it is known and relevant. Explicit criteria help make the review answerable; OpenAI’s image-evaluation guidance frames evaluation around stated instructions and constraints.
  4. Use the assistant’s supported image-input route. In a chat product, attach or paste the screenshot using its image feature. In an API workflow, follow the provider’s documentation for an image URL, encoded image, or file reference. OpenAI’s API guide also documents supplying multiple images in one request; the available routes and limits vary by product.

Use a focused landing-page review prompt

Ask for observations before recommendations, require visible evidence for each issue, and make uncertainty explicit. This prompt works with a screenshot attached through the assistant’s supported image-input route:

Review this [desktop/mobile] landing-page screenshot for [audience] considering [offer]. The intended primary action is [action]. First describe what you can directly observe. Then assess: (1) whether the offer and page purpose are apparent, (2) visual hierarchy and the prominence of the primary CTA, (3) legibility of the headline, supporting copy, and CTA, (4) whether sections and controls look coherent and usable, and (5) any visible inconsistencies. For every issue, point to the visible evidence, explain why it may matter to this audience, suggest one specific revision, and label uncertainty. Do not infer conversion performance from the screenshot.

The criteria draw on OpenAI Cookbook guidance for evaluating visual interfaces, including instruction following, hierarchy, text legibility, interface realism, usability clarity, and lightweight human feedback. That guidance concerns evaluation of generated UI and image outputs; it is a useful rubric source, not a landing-page conversion study. It notes that “Labels, headings, and calls to action need to be readable and unambiguous.”

Check the feedback before changing the page

  • Separate observation from inference. “The CTA is below the headline” is a visible observation; “visitors will miss it” is a prediction. Ask the assistant to label the difference and do not treat the prediction as established.
  • Verify details directly. Models can misread text, image content, layout, and spatial relationships. Compare claims with the screenshot and your design intent rather than accepting a confident description as proof.
  • Mark or crop areas that need closer attention. If the assistant overlooks a specific component, annotate the screenshot or supply a crop, keeping enough surrounding context to show the element’s role. The OpenAI image-input FAQ discusses annotation as a way to focus attention and notes limits around image resizing, legibility, and precise localization.
  • Resolve subjective questions with people. Ask a teammate or representative users about ambiguous hierarchy, comprehension, trust, and task completion. Human feedback can help judge whether a design communicates the intended interaction.
  • Validate outcomes with appropriate evidence. Use analytics or controlled experiments for performance questions and usability research for comprehension or task completion. A visual critique alone does not demonstrate a conversion lift.

Choosing an image-capable assistant

There is no neutral head-to-head evidence here establishing which assistant gives the best landing-page critique. Compare the workflow you need rather than assuming one model is better at conversion advice:

What to compare Why it matters
Image-input route and supported formats or limits Chat interfaces and APIs may accept images differently, such as an upload, URL, encoded image, or file reference. Check the documentation for the product and workflow you will use.
Multiple screenshots and readable detail Mobile and desktop layouts may need separate review; image limits, detail settings, or resizing can affect whether text remains legible.
Rubric adherence and uncertainty A consistent prompt makes reviews easier to inspect. Prefer responses that distinguish visible evidence from inference and state what they cannot determine.
Privacy, access, cost, and review time Check the relevant data-handling terms and access requirements for your chosen product, then account for the human time needed to verify its suggestions.

Official input documentation is available from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Those docs establish ways to provide images, not comparative landing-page outcomes.

Capture a landing-page screenshot with ScreenshotNeo

If you need a screenshot before sending a page to an AI assistant, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. The example below saves a WebP screenshot of the target URL; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Replace the example URL with your landing page. The resulting image can then be supplied through your AI assistant’s supported image-input route. As with any screenshot, check that the viewport and visible text are appropriate for the critique you want.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of these steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Common problems and fixes

  • The assistant cannot access the image. The image may not have been attached through a supported route. Reattach it in the chat interface or use the provider’s documented API method, such as an accepted URL, base64 data URL, or file reference.
  • It misreads the headline or CTA. Check the image’s readability and whether it was resized; provide a clearer screenshot or a crop with surrounding context, then ask the model to quote or describe only the visible text.
  • It points to the wrong area. Models can struggle with precise localization. Annotate the target or submit a contextual crop and ask it to refer to visible elements rather than relying on exact coordinates.
  • It makes broad claims about conversion or user behavior. Ask it to separate screenshot observations from inference and state what cannot be known visually. Validate behavioral claims with analytics, experiments, or user research.
  • It recommends a change that conflicts with the offer or audience. Add the missing audience, offer, and intended action to the prompt, then check the suggestion against your actual design goals before revising.
