To use a YouTube stream key for a 24/7 prerecorded broadcast, copy the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room into an encoder, then configure that encoder or service to loop your videos and recover from interruptions. The key authenticates the feed; it does not loop videos or keep a broadcast running by itself.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
Confirm that live streaming is available for your channel before preparing a long broadcast. YouTube’s current setup guidance says the channel must meet its live-streaming requirements, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and comply with the applicable minimum-age rules. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until broadcast day. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
Choose what will loop the prerecorded video
The encoder or streaming service—not the stream key—plays the video library and keeps sending a live feed. Pick a method that suits how much equipment you want to manage and how much interruption risk you can accept.

| Cloud streaming service | A cloud service can run the playlist without relying on a home computer. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based prerecorded-stream option; the listing does not make it required or the only option. YouTube’s encoder options describe the category. |
For any option, check playlist looping, automatic restart or reconnection, scheduling, monitoring and alerts, stream-key security, supported resolution and bitrate, and how you will record or segment a long broadcast if you need a complete archive.

Set up the stream key in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. Use the Stream tab to create a stream or select an existing one. If you want a promoted watch page, schedule the stream before it starts. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup steps; interface labels may change.
- Copy both connection details. In the stream’s settings, copy the stream URL (server address) and stream key. An encoder’s direct YouTube connection or preset may handle these fields for you; otherwise, enter the URL in its server or RTMP field and the key in its stream-key field.
- Configure the playlist and continuity. Add the prerecorded videos in the order you want them played, enable looping, and configure the encoder or service to reconnect or restart after a dropped connection. Check that it can operate unattended for the duration you need.
- Set the video and audio output. For common RTMP/RTMPS workflows, YouTube lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Choose a bitrate appropriate to your resolution, frame rate, and codec, with enough reliable upload capacity to carry the feed. Use YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the current values that apply to your format.
- Check the preview before going live. Start the encoder or cloud feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the picture and audio are correct and review stream health. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to click Go live after the preview appears.
- Run a representative test. Check clips with movement, quiet sections, and audio, not just a static opening frame. Confirm the playlist advances and loops, and test the recovery behavior in a controlled way before depending on it for an unattended broadcast.
Protect the stream key
Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not put it in screenshots, public documents, chat, or a shared encoder configuration. YouTube’s stream settings guidance explains that keys are credentials for the stream. If you think yours was exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key before restarting. You can create custom keys for reuse; reuse settings may also copy a key, so check carefully where the credential is stored.
Plan for interruptions and long archives
A 24/7 broadcast needs more than a looping playlist: plan for a power loss, network failure, encoder crash, and YouTube-side disconnection. Confirm that your chosen setup can reconnect or restart and that you can see whether the stream is healthy. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish that a single 24-hour stream will be archived in full. If a complete archive matters, check current YouTube policy and your encoder or service’s scheduling features, and arrange separate recording or segmented broadcasts. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Verify that the server field contains the stream URL and the key field contains the key, with no accidental spaces or missing characters. Confirm the channel is eligible and that first-time live activation has completed.
- YouTube receives no preview: Check that the encoder has actually started sending, that the selected stream is the intended one, and that the encoder’s output format follows YouTube’s current ingest guidance. Review Live Control Room stream health.
- The feed starts but stops later: Check the computer or device’s power, network stability, and encoder logs. Confirm that restart or reconnection is enabled and test that it works; a stream key alone cannot provide recovery.
- The video does not repeat: Check that the playlist contains the intended files and that loop or repeat is enabled in the encoder or service. Looping is not a YouTube stream-key setting.
- The picture or sound is unreliable: Check the encoder’s codec, CBR setting, keyframe interval, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and audio format against YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. Ensure the connection can sustain the selected output.
- The stream key may be exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room, replace the saved key in the encoder, and verify the preview again before going live.
Copyright, reused content, and monetization
Only broadcast videos and audio you have permission to use on YouTube Live. A stream key does not grant rights to the material, and looping a recording does not make it original or exempt it from YouTube’s copyright rules. Reused-content and monetization decisions are separate from the technical ability to send a stream; review YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content before relying on a prerecorded loop. Do not assume that a successful preview means the material is cleared for broadcast or monetization.
