There is no universal “brand image” API. A logo on a Zendesk brand, an Apple Ads brand asset, and a photo attached to a Google Business Profile location are different resources with different upload methods, permissions, processing states, and deletion rules. Start by identifying the platform, the object that owns the image, and the image’s role. Then implement the provider’s documented lifecycle: upload, check processing, use, replace, retrieve, and delete.
Start with the image’s owner and role
Before writing code, record these details:
- Provider: Apple Ads, Zendesk, Google Business Profile, Walmart, Shopify, or another service.
- Owning object: an ad account, promoted brand, support-account brand, store, campaign, or physical location.
- Operation: create, replace, retrieve, list, hide, or permanently remove.
- Transport: multipart form data, a public source URL, or a staged binary upload.
- State: whether the provider reviews or processes the image before it can be used.
- Scope: the account, location, campaign, or brand identifier that must own the asset.
These distinctions prevent a common integration error: sending a valid image to an endpoint that represents the wrong kind of brand.
Provider workflows at a glance
| Provider and object | Upload pattern | Formats or state behavior | Lifecycle notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Ads asset for a BUSINESS_BRAND promoted object | Multipart POST /v1/assets/upload with a binary file, promotedObjectId, and promotedObjectType. |
PNG, JPG, and HEIC are documented. Processing starts after upload; poll the asset until eligibility is ready. | Query, get by asset ID, and delete are separate operations. Delete is soft: direct retrieval can show deleted: true, while normal queries omit deleted assets. |
| Zendesk brand logo | Multipart PUT /api/v2/brands/{brand_id}/logo, using the documented brand[logo][uploaded_data] field. |
The logo endpoint is admin-only. Confirm authentication and current account requirements in Zendesk’s API reference. | Replace with another PUT or remove with DELETE /api/v2/brands/{brand_id}/logo. The general brand-update endpoint is separate. |
| Google Business Profile location media | Either provide a sourceUrl to Media.Create, or call media:startUpload, send bytes to the returned resource name, then call Media.Create with dataRef. |
Specify mediaFormat and locationAssociation. Media constraints and attribution rules apply. |
The reference exposes create, delete, retrieve, update, and list operations. This is location media, not a general account logo. |
| Walmart Sponsored Brands and Brand Asset Manager | Guides cover creating, retrieving, updating, deleting, uploading logos or custom images, and reviewing assets. | Verify the current endpoint and version before migration. | Walmart’s documentation says Brand Profile Create endpoints are scheduled for deprecation on January 31, 2027, with update restrictions on that date; check whether the notice remains current. |
| Shopify Brand | Shopify help describes assets used by sales channels, themes, and apps, but does not establish a generally available image-upload endpoint. | Theme or channel compatibility determines which assets are used. | Treat this as product guidance, not proof of a portable Brand image API. |
Design a safe upload pipeline
1. Validate before sending
- Check the provider’s accepted MIME types, dimensions, file-size limits, and attribution requirements.
- Open the file and verify it is a real image rather than trusting its extension. Reject corrupted or unexpectedly large files.
- Normalize filenames and keep the original extension only when it matches the detected format.
- Store a checksum and your own asset ID so retries do not create accidental duplicates.
2. Authorize the owning object
Use credentials that can modify the exact account, brand, or location. Apple associates an uploaded asset with the ad account identified by X-AP-Context and a BUSINESS_BRAND promoted object. Zendesk marks its logo operation admin-only. Google requires access to the Business Profile location. A token that can read an object may not be allowed to replace or delete its image.
3. Upload using the documented transport
Do not substitute JSON base64 for a multipart endpoint, or a browser-accessible URL for a staged-byte endpoint, unless the provider explicitly supports it. Preserve the response body and request ID (if supplied) in your logs, while redacting tokens and private image URLs.

4. Wait for readiness
An HTTP success response means the request was accepted, not necessarily that the image can be used. Apple says processing begins after upload; poll its Get Asset operation until eligibility reports ready. For Google’s byte flow, the upload resource name is an intermediate reference that must be passed to the later media-creation request.
5. Make replacement and deletion explicit
Keep the provider’s asset ID or media name. A replacement may create a new version rather than mutate the old object. Deletion can be soft (Apple) or a logo removal operation (Zendesk). For Google, use the documented media delete operation and account for propagation time in downstream systems.
Apple Ads: upload a brand asset
Apple’s Assets API documents four operations: upload, query, get by asset ID, and delete by asset ID. The brand upload is associated with an ad account and a BUSINESS_BRAND promoted object.

- Prepare a PNG, JPG, or HEIC file and identify the promoted brand ID.
- Send a multipart request to
POST /v1/assets/uploadcontaining the binary fieldfile, promotedObjectId, andpromotedObjectType=BUSINESS_BRAND. Include the ad-account context required by Apple, includingX-AP-Context. - Persist the returned asset ID and response metadata.
- Poll Get Asset for that ID until eligibility is ready. Do not attach a still-processing asset to a creative.
- Use the query operation for inventory. Deleted assets are excluded by default, while direct retrieval can still expose a soft-deleted record with
deleted: true.
Apple’s documentation also notes that queries and retrieval cover App Store apps; do not assume every returned asset is a Maps brand logo without checking its promoted object.
Zendesk: set, replace, or remove a brand logo
Set or replace
Use PUT /api/v2/brands/{brand_id}/logo as an administrator. Send multipart form data with the documented field name brand[logo][uploaded_data]. The logo endpoint is separate from Zendesk’s general brand update endpoint, so changing other brand fields will not necessarily change the logo.
Remove
Call DELETE /api/v2/brands/{brand_id}/logo with administrator authorization. Record the brand ID and response, then verify the brand representation or UI reflects the removal. Confirm your account’s current authentication setup and request requirements against Zendesk’s API reference before deploying.

Google Business Profile: attach media to a location
Google’s workflow is for media belonging to a Business Profile location, not a general company logo. You can use a source URL or upload bytes in stages.
Source-URL route
- Call
Media.Createfor the location. - Provide
sourceUrl, the appropriatemediaFormat, andlocationAssociation. - Save the returned media resource name and retrieve it to confirm the association.
Binary route
- Call
media:startUploadfor the location. - Send the image bytes to the returned upload resource name.
- Call
Media.Createwith the resultingdataRef, plusmediaFormatandlocationAssociation. - Use the media retrieve, list, update, and delete operations to manage the resource.
Apply Google’s media constraints and attribution rules to the specific image. A successful byte upload alone does not establish that the media meets those rules.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIdempotency, retries, and synchronization
- Use a state machine:
local_pending,uploaded,processing,ready,failed, anddeleted. - Retry safely: retry network timeouts and 5xx responses with exponential backoff; do not blindly retry validation or authorization errors.
- Prevent duplicate assets: key jobs by provider, owning-object ID, image checksum, and intended operation.
- Poll responsibly: use increasing intervals and a deadline. If readiness never arrives, retain the provider response for support.
- Reconcile: periodically list remote assets and compare IDs, checksums, and deletion state with your database.
- Protect secrets: keep API keys and OAuth tokens server-side, rotate them, and redact multipart logs.
Common failures and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 401 or 403 | Expired token, wrong account scope, or insufficient role. | Refresh credentials, verify the owning account/location, and check admin or write permission. |
| 400 validation error | Wrong field name, promoted-object type, media format, or missing association. | Match the provider’s exact multipart fields and enum values; validate the image before retrying. |
| Upload succeeds but image is unusable | Provider processing or review is incomplete. | Poll Apple eligibility or retrieve the provider’s media state before publishing. |
| Google byte upload cannot be created | The staged resource name or dataRef was not carried into Media.Create. |
Persist the returned resource name and pass the correct reference in the create request. |
| Deleted item still appears | Deletion is soft or listing is eventually consistent. | For Apple, expect direct retrieval to show deleted: true; verify list behavior and wait for propagation elsewhere. |
| Walmart migration risk | Brand Profile Create endpoints are approaching the documented January 31, 2027 deprecation. | Check Walmart’s current notice and migrate to the supported Brand Asset Manager workflow before relying on the old endpoint. |
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to capture a rendered brand page or approval preview rather than upload the source logo itself, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients call take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
