The safest Hyperia City upgrade keeps your deck’s existing ink pair and win condition intact. Replace the weakest cards with small, testable packages that support what the deck already does: Coco songs and discard, ink-drop tempo, locations, items, princesses, or another clearly supported engine. Do not rebuild around a character simply because it is popular.
Hyperia City prereleases on October 16, 2026, and broad availability begins October 23, 2026, according to Ravensburger. Card text, inkability, set membership, errata, and event legality can change or be clarified, so verify every final inclusion in the current official card gallery and release notes.
What Hyperia City adds to Disney Lorcana
Hyperia City expands several themes at once rather than introducing one universally superior strategy. Disney and Pixar’s Coco glimmers debut in the set, with songs and discard-related play patterns spread across Amber, Amethyst, and Ruby. The set also adds princess, Mickey, Zootopia, Gargoyles, and location cards. That breadth means the right upgrade depends on your ink pair, curve, and way of winning.

Its defining new resource is the ink drop. An ink drop is a counter kept beside the play area, not a card that goes into your deck. Remove one to pay 1 ink; you may combine drops with normal ink. Once removed, a drop cannot be reused. Printed counters appear in Hyperia City boosters, although a die or another clearly tracked object can represent them.

Hyperia City also introduces the Adventurous ability. A character with Adventurous cannot challenge and must quest each turn if able. Ravensburger’s introductory example is Mickey Mouse – Best In Town: when Mickey is exerted, its Hot Dog! ability gives each player an ink drop at the end of your turn. That symmetrical resource matters when your list is built to convert drops into a stronger next turn.
Several cards reward either creating or spending drops. Madam Mim – Resourceful Trickster is highlighted for hand value; Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester can generate an ink drop when challenged; Wasabi – Called into Battle has a stronger laser effect while an ink drop is in play; and Jousting Match deals extra damage when an ink drop is used. These cards are incentives for a coherent package, not automatic four-of inclusions in every deck.
The set’s Coco material rewards remembering past glimmers. Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge can provide extra lore when 10 or more cards have passed into your discard pile. Song cards and characters such as Miguel Rivera – Street Musician reward a discard-based plan. The payoff is strongest when your deck already treats the discard pile as a resource instead of a place where cards simply disappear.
Start with a baseline, not a wish list
Before adding a single Hyperia City card, document what your current deck is trying to accomplish. This prevents a new mechanic from displacing the cards that make the original list function.
- Write down the two inks. Every candidate must be legal for that pair. If a card belongs to a different ink, it is not an upgrade for this list no matter how attractive its text looks.
- State the win condition in one sentence. Examples include building an early lore lead, controlling opposing characters until a large quest turn, or converting a discard pile into recurring value. If you cannot describe the plan, do not add a new package yet.
- Map the curve. Count your early plays, midgame stabilizers, and expensive finishers. Hyperia City replacements should normally occupy the same cost range as the cards they replace; otherwise the deck may become slower without gaining a compensating advantage.
- Count uninkable cards. A card that cannot be placed in your inkwell is a larger commitment than an inkable card at the same cost. Record the total before changing the list and avoid adding several situational uninkables at once.
- Mark weak slots. Look for cards that are dead when drawn without support, duplicate effects you rarely need, or plays that fail to advance lore, stabilize the board, improve selection, or generate meaningful value.
Keep this baseline beside your revised list. It gives you a factual way to decide whether Hyperia City improved the deck instead of merely making it feel newer.
Choose one upgrade package first
Start with one package large enough to function but small enough to remove if testing shows it is distracting from the deck’s plan. The following options use the themes Ravensburger has specifically associated with Hyperia City.
| Package | Best fit | What it is trying to do | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coco songs and discard | Amber, Amethyst, or Ruby lists that already discard or replay cards | Turn cards moving to the discard pile into song value, lore, or later payoffs | Discarding without enough payoff produces card disadvantage |
| Ink-drop tempo | Decks that can spend temporary resources immediately | Use drops to accelerate a play or unlock stronger effects from cards such as Wasabi or Jousting Match | Giving an opponent drops or drawing payoffs before generators |
| Item and selection engine | Lists that rely on items or need better quality of draws | Use Intense Research and Spyglass Hat to improve access to key cards and convert hand cards into ink | Items and selection spells can consume turns without affecting the board |
| Locations | Decks that protect a board position or gain lore through a stable table | Add a location package that advances the existing board plan | Locations can be poor top-decks when you are behind and lack support |
| Princess, Mickey, Zootopia, or Gargoyles | Lists already built around that tribe or character family | Increase synergy density without changing the deck’s identity | Adding isolated characters for theme alone creates dead draws |
If two candidates pursue different plans, keep them separate in testing. A Coco discard build and an ink-drop tempo build should be labeled as different versions rather than presented as one universally best Hyperia City deck.

Understand the new mechanics before building around them
Ink drops are temporary payment counters
When an effect gives you an ink drop, place a clearly tracked counter nearby. To pay a cost of 1 ink, remove one drop, use one regular ink, or combine both sources for a larger cost. The counter is spent permanently. It does not return to a pool, and it is not shuffled into the deck.
Because a drop is not a card, you do not increase your deck’s card count by adding more drops. You increase access to the resource by including cards that generate it, then include enough payoffs to make spending it worthwhile. A drop that sits unused is not automatically value; it is only useful if it changes a future play.
Adventurous changes how a character contributes
An Adventurous character cannot challenge and must quest each turn if able. That makes the character’s role different from a normal attacker: it is a questing or ability engine that gives up the option to trade in combat. Mickey Mouse – Best In Town illustrates the tension. Exerting Mickey can give every player an ink drop at the end of your turn, so you should ask whether your deck can exploit that temporary resource better than the opponent can.
Coco rewards a stocked discard pile
Ravensburger describes Coco cards as rewarding players for remembering past glimmers. Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge can provide additional lore once 10 or more cards have passed into your discard pile. That threshold is a plan, not a guarantee: you need reliable ways to put cards there and enough time for the location to matter. Miguel Rivera – Street Musician and related song cards are most attractive when your existing list already discards naturally or can recover value from that zone.

Intense Research normally looks at the top two cards. When an ink drop pays for it, it looks at the top five instead. That is a meaningful increase in selection, but only when your list can generate drops consistently and the spell does not replace a necessary board play. Test the drop-paid mode as a deliberate timing choice rather than assuming the larger look is always correct.
Spyglass Hat turns a new item into inkwell access
Spyglass Hat can put a card from your hand into the inkwell when a newly played item has a unique name among your items. The restriction matters: the item must be newly played, and its name must be unique relative to your other items. Plan the sequence before playing the Hat, and track item names so you do not count a duplicate as eligible.
How to upgrade the list step by step
- Photograph or export the current list. Preserve the original version so every change is reversible.
- Choose one package from the table. Write down the package’s job, such as “reach the Marigold Bridge lore threshold” or “spend drops to improve tempo.”
- Search the official card gallery. Filter by Hyperia City, your two inks, inkability, cost, and rarity. Copy current text from the gallery or the latest release notes rather than relying on spoiler images.
- Build a candidate pool. Include generators, payoffs, and a few flexible cards. A payoff without a generator is a dead draw; a generator without a payoff may be only a delayed resource.
- Replace the weakest cards at the same curve. Remove cards that have underperformed in the role your new package is taking. Avoid cutting all early plays to make room for expensive effects.
- Check inkability and opening turns. Count the revised uninkable cards and goldfish several opening hands. You should still have a reasonable sequence of early plays and ink decisions.
- Play several games with notes. Record whether the package advanced lore, stabilized the board, improved card selection, or created dead draws. Note the turn on which a drop, location, item, or discard threshold actually mattered.
- Keep, trim, or remove the package. Keep cards that repeatedly perform their stated job, trim cards that are strong only with multiple pieces, and remove cards that are attractive in theory but poor when drawn alone.
- Recheck legality before organized play. Confirm current comprehensive rules, errata, set legality, and event-specific requirements immediately before submitting a list.
“What cards should I add & take out?”
There is no responsible universal swap list without seeing your two inks, curve, and existing win condition. Use role-for-role substitutions instead of deleting random cards to make room.

| If your current list has… | Consider testing… | Cut first… |
|---|---|---|
| Discard effects with no payoff | Coco songs, Miguel Rivera – Street Musician, or Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge | The discard card that produces the least immediate or future value |
| Temporary resources but no way to spend them | Intense Research paid with an ink drop, Wasabi – Called into Battle, or Jousting Match | A situational payoff that requires a resource you rarely have |
| Many items but weak hand quality | Spyglass Hat and selection effects such as Intense Research | An item that does not improve your board, hand, or ink access |
| Expensive cards clogging opening hands | Lower-cost Hyperia City cards in the same ink pair | The highest-cost card that is weakest when drawn early |
| A tribe with isolated members | Hyperia City characters that share the tribe and provide a useful standalone effect | The least useful off-theme character rather than an essential engine piece |
Do not make every change at once. A small package lets you identify which card improved the list and which card merely benefited from a memorable new mechanic.

Set the discard objective
Decide whether discard is an engine or a side effect. If the plan is Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge, your deck must reach the 10-card discard threshold often enough for the extra lore to matter. If the plan is song value, prioritize characters and songs that reward the discard action rather than filling the list with cards that only move cards away.
Sequence songs and characters
Play the cards that establish your board before spending a turn on a song that does not affect the table. Miguel Rivera – Street Musician is more attractive when it converts a discard you already wanted into additional value. Keep enough inkable cards and early characters that the discard package does not turn your opening hand into a collection of narrow effects.
Watch for the threshold trap
A card that is excellent after 10 cards reach the discard pile may be weak on turn one. Test how often the threshold is reached in games where the opponent applies pressure. If the location is consistently late or stranded, reduce the package or add cards that advance the discard plan while still contributing to the board.
Building an ink-drop package
Pair generators with immediate payoffs
Ink-drop decks need both halves. Mickey Mouse – Best In Town and Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester represent ways to obtain drops; Wasabi – Called into Battle, Jousting Match, and drop-paid Intense Research represent ways to spend them. Do not count a generator as successful merely because it created a counter. Ask whether the drop changed combat, lore, selection, or your curve before the opponent could answer.
Evaluate symmetrical effects carefully
Mickey’s Hot Dog! ability gives each player an ink drop when Mickey is exerted at the end of your turn. The effect can accelerate your opponent too. Include Mickey when your deck has the better conversion of a drop, not simply because the ability looks efficient in isolation.
Track drops visibly
Use the printed Hyperia City counters, dice, or another agreed object, and remove a counter immediately when it pays for ink. Clear tracking prevents accidental reuse and makes testing results reliable. A drop that remains beside the play area is available; a removed counter is gone.

Using items and selection without slowing the deck
Intense Research’s normal top-two look is useful when you need a specific card but cannot spend a full turn on a large engine. Its top-five mode, unlocked by paying with an ink drop, is more selective but demands a resource and a timing window. Compare the card’s selection benefit with the board development you give up by casting it now.
Spyglass Hat rewards disciplined item sequencing. Before playing a new item, check whether its name is unique among your items and whether the card you put into the inkwell is genuinely expendable. The Hat is less valuable when your hand contains only cards needed for the next two turns or when duplicate item names prevent its condition from being met.
Locations and character themes: add only what advances the plan
Hyperia City’s locations can support decks that already know how to protect a location or extract lore from a stable board. A location that asks you to spend several turns defending it should replace a card with a similar board role, not an essential early play.
Princess, Mickey, Zootopia, and Gargoyles cards are best evaluated by engine density. A new character should either advance lore, challenge effectively, generate a resource, improve your hand, or reinforce a tribal payoff. Character popularity is not a substitute for an effect that works in your deck’s ink pair.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare candidates fairly
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is it in the existing ink pair? | An otherwise powerful card cannot be included legally if its ink does not match the deck. |
| Is it inkable? | Inkable cards reduce the chance that situational draws clog your hand. |
| What cost and curve slot does it occupy? | Replacing a two-cost play with a six-cost card can create a slower deck even if the expensive card is stronger. |
| What lore or strength does it provide immediately? | Immediate output helps the card function when its support pieces are absent. |
| How much engine support does it require? | A card that needs three other pieces should be tested as a package, not judged as a standalone staple. |
| Does it generate or use an ink drop? | Drop cards are strongest when your list contains a reliable balance of generators and payoffs. |
| Can it survive or recover from removal? | A fragile engine needs enough redundancy that one opposing answer does not end the plan. |
| Is it useful when drawn alone? | Standalone utility limits dead draws during games where the package does not assemble. |
Testing and troubleshooting
The deck feels slower
Restore early plays before adding more payoffs. Replace the most expensive or uninkable Hyperia City card first, then retest the opening hands. A package that requires setup should not eliminate the cards that let you survive until setup is complete.
You draw generators without payoffs
Reduce the number of resource-only cards or add flexible payoffs that are acceptable without a drop. Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester, for example, should be judged by its normal character role as well as its ability to create a drop when challenged.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You draw payoffs without drops
Either increase reliable generation or cut narrow payoffs. Wasabi – Called into Battle and Jousting Match should not occupy many slots if your games rarely leave a drop available at the moment you need the effect.

- PLENTY OF STORAGE SPACE: Within the storage box, you can keep up to 250 sleeved cards. That way you can protect your cards from unexpected blizzards or frozen blasts.
- A BLAST FROM THE PAST: Enjoy opening 5 booster packs for a total of 60 cards. This assorted collection features randomly selected backs from previous sets.
- A GREAT GIFT FOR FANS:The perfect surprise for Disney lovers, card collectors, or players—this gift box delivers magical gameplay and collecting fun for any Scrooge McDuck or Lorcana fan.
The discard pile never reaches the Coco threshold
Track the number of cards entering discard each game. If 10 cards rarely pass through, Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge is probably too ambitious for the current list. Keep the location only if it has a useful role before the threshold or add discard effects that also advance your board.
Items sit in hand while you fall behind
Trim selection pieces that do not affect the board and keep only the items that improve your next draw, ink access, or a key interaction. Spyglass Hat should earn its slot through repeated successful sequences, not through the possibility of putting one card into the inkwell.
The opponent benefits from your resource
Review symmetrical effects such as Mickey Mouse – Best In Town. If the opponent converts the shared drop more efficiently, treat the ability as a liability unless your deck gains a compensating advantage in lore, tempo, or card quality.
Should I buy Hyperia City boosters or singles?
Buy singles for exact upgrades
Singles are the efficient choice when you know the named cards and quantities your revised list needs. Use the official card gallery to confirm current text, inkability, rarity, and set membership before buying. This approach minimizes duplicate cards and lets you test a focused package quickly.
Buy boosters for collection growth
Ravensburger positions Hyperia City booster packs and booster display boxes as ways to grow a collection and customize decks. They make sense when you want to discover cards, trade extras, or build several lists, but they do not guarantee the exact playset your upgrade requires. Retail availability and prices can change, so check the current listing at the time of purchase.
Choose the Illumineer’s Trove for accessories as well
The official Illumineer’s Trove includes eight booster packs, six damage dice, and a full-art box. It is most relevant to a new or returning player who needs storage and game components in addition to cards. If you only need a few specific Hyperia City inclusions, singles remain the more direct route.
Use local stores for testing and trades
Prereleases, organized play, and local game stores can provide opponents, trade opportunities, and practical feedback on whether your package works. Confirm event dates, product availability, and current legality with the store or organizer rather than relying on an old announcement.
Release timing, legality, and card-text checks
Hyperia City prereleases began October 16, 2026, with broad availability scheduled for October 23, 2026. On October 19, prerelease access may exist while regular retail stock is still limited. Verify the product’s availability in your region.
Before using a list in competitive or organized play, recheck the current comprehensive rules, errata, and event legality. Confirm that every card is from Hyperia City when your deck requires set-specific text, and copy the latest wording from the official card gallery or release notes. Spoiler images and early social posts can omit reminders, restrictions, or later corrections.
Quick Recap
A practical final checklist
- The revised list keeps its original ink pair and stated win condition.
- One Hyperia City package has a written job and enough support to function.
- Early plays, inkable cards, and the average curve remain healthy.
- Ink drops are represented clearly and removed when spent; no counter is reused.
- Adventurous characters are included with their no-challenge, must-quest restriction in mind.
- Coco cards have a realistic discard plan, not just a theme connection.
- Items and selection spells do not replace too many board-impacting plays.
- Each replacement was tested over several games and recorded as a lore, board, selection, or resource decision.
- Current card text, errata, release availability, and event legality have been verified.
