You can edit a live YouTube broadcast’s title or description without stopping the encoder if YouTube exposes those fields for the stream’s current type and state. That changes metadata for the broadcast as a whole—not the name of each podcast episode inside a continuous video. To label individual episodes while the stream stays live, add the episode name to the program output as a title card or lower third.
First, decide what you need to update
“Update an episode” can mean two different things during a continuous podcast stream:
- Change the YouTube title or description: edits the live broadcast’s overall metadata. YouTube’s API likewise treats title and description as properties of the broadcast, not separate episode labels. YouTube Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts.update
- Show the current episode’s name in the video: add the name to the picture sent by your encoder, using a title card or lower third. An edit to the broadcast title does not insert episode-by-episode labels into the video.
For a show that carries several podcast episodes in one uninterrupted feed, a practical setup is a stable overall title such as “Podcast name — 24/7 live stream,” with the current episode identified in the video and, if useful, in the description.

Change the broadcast title or description in YouTube Studio
YouTube documents metadata controls for encoder and mobile streams. The exact fields available can depend on how the stream was created and its current state; the documented route is not a guarantee that every field will be editable on every active broadcast. - Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
- Keep your encoder running. Do not end the broadcast if you want the live feed to continue.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then locate the active broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Open that broadcast’s stream settings or details. Select Edit if it is available for the field you want to change.
- Update the title or description and save. Check the live watch page to confirm the change appears. YouTube’s documentation does not promise a fixed propagation time.
The cited YouTube help page covers encoder and mobile streams, not webcam streams. If the field you need is unavailable for the active broadcast, the documentation does not establish a universal way to change it while live. Do not assume that ending and restarting is necessary—or that an edit will be possible—without checking the controls shown for your stream.
Show a different episode name without changing the broadcast metadata
For each episode transition, update the graphic or scene in the encoder’s outgoing program. For example, show a brief title card between episodes, then keep the episode name and any identifying details in a lower third while it plays. YouTube documents encoder overlay capabilities, but does not prescribe a particular graphics workflow; using overlays for episode labels is a production recommendation, not a built-in per-episode YouTube metadata feature. If viewers also need a schedule or episode sequence, you can put that information in the broadcast description when the field is available. Treat the description as supporting information: it does not replace a visible label in the live video.
Automate a title or description change with the YouTube API
For a scripted workflow, the YouTube Live Streaming API’s liveBroadcasts.update operation updates a broadcast. Its documentation lists snippet.title and snippet.description as editable snippet properties. The request requires authorization, and update behavior depends on the parts included in the request. Built-in OSD generator adds scrolling text, logos, or timestamps directly to the video stream — ideal for branding, event info, or security labeling. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
- Use the current API reference to construct the authorized update for the broadcast and fields you intend to change.
- When updating a part, preserve the existing values for other mutable properties in that part. The API documentation warns that omitted properties can be overwritten or removed.
- Check the API response and then verify the live watch page. Some broadcast properties have stricter status rules, so do not assume every setting can be modified once the broadcast is underway.
If you manage the stream through Restream
Restream says its stream details can be edited in its interface while live, but cautions that destination platforms may not reflect every change. Use this as a convenience if you already produce the stream through Restream, not as a guarantee that YouTube will apply a particular metadata edit. Confirm the result on YouTube.
