Yes. You can add, remove, or reorder videos in a YouTube playlist while your channel is live by editing the playlist in YouTube Studio under Content > Playlists. Keep that work separate from the controls for the live broadcast: an ordinary playlist edit uses playlist controls, not stream settings.

Update the playlist in YouTube Studio

  1. Open the right playlist. In YouTube Studio, select Content, then the Playlists tab. Confirm the playlist name before editing so you do not change a different playlist by mistake. YouTube documents playlist management in this area: YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists.
  2. Open its editing view. Select Edit on YouTube for the playlist. To add a video, YouTube Help also documents going to the video details, selecting More, then Add videos. You can add by searching, entering a URL, or choosing a video from your library.
  3. Make the content change. Add the intended video, remove an unwanted entry, or drag entries into the order you want. Check the playlist title and visible contents as you work.
  4. Change details only if needed. Use the playlist details controls to edit its title, description, or privacy. YouTube’s stated limits are 150 characters for a title and 5,000 characters for a description: YouTube Help: Edit a playlist.
  5. Review the result. Reopen or refresh the playlist’s editing view and verify its contents and order. This is a sensible final check; YouTube does not describe it as a formal safety checklist.

Keep playlist edits separate from the live broadcast

YouTube documents live-stream management through the Studio Live area and Live Control Room, while playlist membership has separate Studio and API controls. A live-stream resource represents the feed sent to YouTube; a live-broadcast resource represents the viewer-facing event. These can be bound together, but they are distinct from playlist and playlist-item resources in the Data API. See Google’s documentation for YouTube Live Streaming API resources and YouTube Data API playlists.

  • For an ordinary playlist-content edit, do not change stream keys, ingestion settings, or broadcast controls. Those settings are not the playlist-edit workflow.
  • Do not assume every viewer’s already-open player or embedded playlist will reflect the change immediately. YouTube’s relevant help and API documentation do not specify active-client refresh timing.

Automate changes with the YouTube Data API

If you need repeatable playlist management, use the YouTube Data API’s playlist-item operations for membership changes rather than live-stream configuration operations. The API documents insertion and deletion of playlist items: YouTube Data API playlistItems.

  • When deleting an entry, identify it by its playlist-item ID, not the underlying video ID. A video ID identifies the video; a playlist-item ID identifies its occurrence in a particular playlist.
  • Deletion requires OAuth 2.0 authorization. Confirm the playlist-item ID and target playlist before sending a delete request, especially if the same video appears more than once.
  • For a one-off change, Studio is the direct interface. API automation is more suitable when changes need to be integrated into a repeatable process and you can handle authorization and API implementation.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • The wrong playlist changed: Return to Content > Playlists and verify the playlist name before editing or making another change.
  • The video is missing or in the wrong position: Reopen the playlist editor, check the selected playlist, and verify the entry and its order.
  • An API deletion targets the wrong occurrence: Look up and use the playlist-item ID for the specific entry, not the video ID.
  • The viewer’s open player looks unchanged: Do not treat immediate refresh as guaranteed; the official documentation does not set a propagation time for already-open clients.
  • You are about to change the stream key or broadcast settings just to update the playlist: Stop and return to the playlist controls. Playlist membership and live-stream configuration are separate workflows.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos continuously, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service—not a tool for editing a YouTube playlist. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports whatever quality you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
