To unlock the Dreaming City, progress through Destiny 2’s New Light questline until destination access is available, then open the Director and select The Dreaming City when its map node appears. Bungie’s current support guidance does not name the exact New Light step that unlocks it. You do not need to start the old Forsaken campaign to follow the current destination-unlock guidance.
Unlock the Dreaming City through New Light
-
Continue the New Light questline on your character. Bungie’s general guidance says destination access unlocks through New Light progression, but does not specify the Dreaming City’s exact gating step or mission name. See Bungie’s Destiny 2 Activities guide.

Do you need the Forsaken Pack just to visit?
Bungie’s current support pages do not establish that owning the Forsaken Pack is required merely to visit the Dreaming City. The pack is relevant if you want its Forsaken activities: Bungie says it includes The Shattered Throne dungeon and the Last Wish raid, both accessed through the Dreaming City map. See the Forsaken Pack guide and available content guide.
What to do if the Dreaming City is missing from the Director
-
Continue New Light progression, then check the Director again. Bungie describes destination unlocking generally, but its current support documentation does not identify the precise Dreaming City gate.

Destiny 2 - Standard Edition- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
-
Do not assume buying the Forsaken Pack will make a missing destination node appear; Bungie’s pack information covers Forsaken activities, not a destination-unlock requirement.
-
If you have progressed through New Light and still cannot see the node, the current support pages reviewed do not document an exact recovery step or account-specific exception. Check Bungie’s current in-game guidance or support information rather than relying on an older quest walkthrough.

Why old Forsaken unlock instructions no longer apply
The Forsaken campaign moved into the Destiny Content Vault when Year 5 launched on February 22, 2022, according to Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault overview. Older instructions that tell players to begin Forsaken at the Tangled Shore describe a historical campaign path, not the current destination-unlock guidance.
