Enshrouded’s Magic Chest is a five-tier storage family, not one recipe unlocked all at once. Rescue the Blacksmith to reveal the Small Magic Chest, accept Table Saw For The Carpenter for the Medium tier, then obtain Tin Ore, Iron Ore and Gold Bars to reveal the Large, Huge and Enormous recipes. The Blacksmith crafts the Small chest; the Carpenter crafts every larger tier.

The unlock item or event only reveals a recipe. You must still collect that tier’s listed materials before you can craft it. The progression below follows the unlock conditions and capacities recorded by the Official Enshrouded Wiki; if a recipe does not appear in your current build, check the crafter’s panel after meeting the trigger.

Magic Chest recipes at a glance

Use this table to identify the next gate in your progression. “Unlock trigger” is the event that makes the recipe appear; it is not the same as the materials needed to build the chest.

Tier Unlock trigger Crafter Materials after unlocking Storage capacity
Small Magic Chest Rescue the Blacksmith during Find the Sleeping Survivor Blacksmith Check the Blacksmith’s recipe panel after the rescue; the cited recipe entry does not list the materials in the available data. 16 slots
Medium Magic Chest Accept Table Saw For The Carpenter Carpenter 1 Medium Chest, 1 Shroud Core and 2 Goo 32 slots
Large Magic Chest Obtain Tin Ore Carpenter 1 Large Chest, 10 Shroud Particles and 1 Alchemical Base 40 slots
Huge Magic Chest Obtain Iron Ore Carpenter 1 Huge Chest, 1 Shroud Nexus and 3 Enshrouded Oil 56 slots
Enormous Magic Chest Obtain Gold Bars Carpenter 24 Wood Planks, 1 Shroud Radiance, 15 Shroud Slime and 2 Gold Bars 72 slots

The storage increase is not uniform: the Small-to-Medium upgrade adds 16 slots, Medium-to-Large adds eight, Large-to-Huge adds 16, and Huge-to-Enormous adds 16. Choose the next tier by the gate you can meet and the materials you can actually supply, rather than assuming every upgrade costs or adds the same amount.

How to unlock the Small Magic Chest

Complete the Blacksmith rescue gate

The first Magic Chest recipe is tied to the Blacksmith, not to an ore or a separate crafting station. Follow the early survivor progression until the Find the Sleeping Survivor quest leads you to the Blacksmith. The Small Magic Chest recipe unlocks when you retrieve the Blacksmith as part of that quest.

  1. Continue the survivor quests until Find the Sleeping Survivor is active.
  2. Complete the objective that rescues the Blacksmith.
  3. Open the Blacksmith’s crafting menu after the rescue.
  4. Look for Small Magic Chest in the storage or furniture portion of the menu.
  5. Gather the materials shown by your game’s recipe panel and craft the chest at the Blacksmith.

The Small chest holds 16 slots. This is the earliest Magic Chest gate, so it is the appropriate first check when ordinary storage is no longer convenient and you have just recruited the Blacksmith.

If the Small recipe is missing

  • Confirm that the Blacksmith was actually rescued, rather than merely encountered during the quest.
  • Return to the Blacksmith’s own crafting interface; the recipe belongs to that crafter.
  • Close and reopen the crafting menu after the quest objective completes so the panel refreshes.
  • Verify that the quest was Find the Sleeping Survivor; later crafter quests do not replace this first unlock.

How to unlock the Medium Magic Chest

Accept the Carpenter’s table-saw quest

The Medium tier uses a quest-acceptance gate. Recruit or otherwise gain access to the Carpenter, then accept Table Saw For The Carpenter. Acceptance of that quest, rather than completion of a later ore milestone, is the condition that reveals the Medium Magic Chest recipe.

  1. Make sure the Carpenter is available to you.
  2. Speak with the Carpenter and accept Table Saw For The Carpenter.
  3. Open the Carpenter’s crafting menu once the quest is accepted.
  4. Select Medium Magic Chest and check that you have one Medium Chest, one Shroud Core and two Goo.
  5. Craft it at the Carpenter, then place it in a base governed by your Flame Altar.

The Medium Magic Chest provides 32 slots. The required Medium Chest is a separate component, so having the Magic Chest recipe visible does not mean the finished storage item is ready to place. Gather the base chest, Shroud Core and Goo independently, then return to the Carpenter when all three requirements are available.

Why completing the quest is not the first check

The recorded unlock condition is accepting Table Saw For The Carpenter. If you are waiting for the quest to be fully completed before checking the recipe, open the Carpenter’s menu immediately after acceptance instead. The quest’s name is the useful diagnostic clue: a Carpenter-related objective with a different name is not the documented Medium Magic Chest gate.

How to unlock the Large Magic Chest

Put Tin Ore into your inventory

The Large recipe is the first Magic Chest tier unlocked by obtaining a specific ore. Once Tin Ore enters your inventory, the Large Magic Chest recipe becomes available at the Carpenter. No additional named quest is listed as the gate for this tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Continue exploring and progressing until you can obtain Tin Ore.
  2. Pick up Tin Ore so the game registers the acquisition in your inventory.
  3. Return to the Carpenter and reopen the crafting menu.
  4. Select Large Magic Chest and gather one Large Chest, 10 Shroud Particles and one Alchemical Base.
  5. Craft the chest at the Carpenter and place it inside your Flame Altar base.

The Large chest holds 40 slots. The ore is the unlock signal, while the Large Chest, Shroud Particles and Alchemical Base are the construction cost. You therefore need both the trigger item and the full recipe materials; finding Tin Ore alone does not produce a finished chest.

When Tin Ore does not reveal the recipe

  • Check that Tin Ore was actually collected, not only seen on the ground or in a container you have not opened.
  • Open the Carpenter’s menu rather than the Blacksmith’s menu; the Large tier is a Carpenter recipe.
  • Leave and re-enter the crafting interface after the pickup if the panel was already open.
  • Compare the item name carefully. The documented trigger is Tin Ore, not a Tin-based crafted component.

How to unlock the Huge Magic Chest

Acquire Iron Ore

Iron Ore is the unlock trigger for the Huge Magic Chest. After Iron Ore enters your inventory, the Carpenter’s menu should expose the recipe. The tier holds 56 slots, making it a substantial increase over the 40-slot Large chest.

  2. Collect Iron Ore and confirm the pickup has registered in your inventory.
  3. Open the Carpenter’s crafting menu again.
  4. Prepare one Huge Chest, one Shroud Nexus and three Enshrouded Oil.
  5. Craft the Huge Magic Chest at the Carpenter and place it within your Flame Altar base.

Because the recipe requires a Huge Chest as a component, plan for two distinct storage steps: first obtain or craft the ordinary Huge Chest, then use it with the Shroud Nexus and Enshrouded Oil in the Magic Chest recipe. The item that unlocks the panel and the items that consume resources are different parts of the process.

Checking the correct crafter

The Huge Magic Chest is not assigned to the Blacksmith. If Iron Ore has been obtained but no Huge recipe appears, verify that you are interacting with the Carpenter and that the Carpenter is accessible at your current base. Rechecking the crafter prevents mistaking an unlock problem for a missing menu entry.

How to unlock the Enormous Magic Chest

Obtain Gold Bars

The final documented tier is unlocked by obtaining Gold Bars. Once the bars are acquired, the Enormous Magic Chest appears at the Carpenter. Its 72-slot capacity is the largest in this five-tier family.

  1. Progress until Gold Bars are available to you.
  2. Obtain Gold Bars and allow the acquisition to register in your inventory.
  3. Open the Carpenter’s crafting menu and locate Enormous Magic Chest.
  4. Collect 24 Wood Planks, one Shroud Radiance, 15 Shroud Slime and two Gold Bars.
  5. Craft the chest at the Carpenter and place it in your Flame Altar base.

Unlike the Medium, Large and Huge recipes, the listed Enormous materials do not include an ordinary Enormous Chest component. The recorded cost is 24 Wood Planks, one Shroud Radiance, 15 Shroud Slime and two Gold Bars, all supplied directly to the Carpenter’s recipe.

Gold Bars versus the unlock condition

The trigger is obtaining Gold Bars, while the recipe also consumes two Gold Bars. Treat those as separate requirements: the first acquisition reveals the recipe, and you must still have the quantity shown by the crafting panel when you build the chest.

Unlock triggers and crafting ingredients are separate

This distinction explains most failed attempts to make a Magic Chest. Each tier has a progression event that reveals the recipe and a material list that pays for the finished item.

  • Small: rescuing the Blacksmith reveals the recipe; use the Blacksmith’s panel for the current material list.
  • Medium: accepting Table Saw For The Carpenter reveals the recipe; the build cost is one Medium Chest, one Shroud Core and two Goo.
  • Large: obtaining Tin Ore reveals the recipe; the build cost is one Large Chest, 10 Shroud Particles and one Alchemical Base.
  • Huge: obtaining Iron Ore reveals the recipe; the build cost is one Huge Chest, one Shroud Nexus and three Enshrouded Oil.
  • Enormous: obtaining Gold Bars reveals the recipe; the build cost is 24 Wood Planks, one Shroud Radiance, 15 Shroud Slime and two Gold Bars.

If the recipe is visible but the craft button is unavailable, the unlock worked and one or more ingredients are missing. If the ingredients are ready but the recipe is absent, investigate the trigger, inventory registration or crafter first.

Where to craft and place a Magic Chest

Use the named crafter

The Blacksmith owns the Small Magic Chest recipe. The Carpenter owns Medium, Large, Huge and Enormous. Selecting the wrong NPC is a common reason for assuming an unlock failed, particularly after collecting Tin Ore, Iron Ore or Gold Bars.

Place it inside the Flame Altar base

After crafting, place the chest in your Flame Altar base rather than leaving it in the crafter’s menu. The storage overview describes Magic Chest contents as available to workshops within their operating area. However, the same information warns that range details may have changed after updates, so do not rely on an old distance assumption. If a nearby workshop cannot use the contents, move the chest closer to the relevant base facilities or verify behavior in your current game build.

Organize upgrades by capacity

The five capacities are 16, 32, 40, 56 and 72 slots in ascending tier order. A player who needs only a modest increase may stop at Medium, while a heavily developed base may justify continuing to Huge or Enormous. Capacity is the storage result; it does not change the unlock gate or the crafter assigned to that tier.

A reliable progression checklist

  1. Rescue the Blacksmith: complete the relevant objective in Find the Sleeping Survivor, then inspect the Blacksmith’s menu for Small Magic Chest.
  2. Accept the Carpenter quest: accept Table Saw For The Carpenter, then inspect the Carpenter’s menu for Medium Magic Chest.
  3. Register Tin Ore: obtain Tin Ore, reopen the Carpenter’s menu and check for Large Magic Chest.
  4. Register Iron Ore: obtain Iron Ore, reopen the Carpenter’s menu and check for Huge Magic Chest.
  5. Register Gold Bars: obtain Gold Bars, reopen the Carpenter’s menu and check for Enormous Magic Chest.
  6. Gather construction materials: use the recipe panel to confirm every component and quantity.
  7. Craft at the assigned NPC: Blacksmith for Small, Carpenter for all other tiers.
  8. Place in the base: put the finished chest within your Flame Altar base and test workshop access.

This order reflects the documented gates. It also gives you a practical diagnostic sequence: at every stage, first confirm the trigger, then the menu owner, then the ingredients.

Troubleshooting a missing recipe

The trigger was obtained, but no recipe appears

Reopen the correct crafter’s menu after the item pickup. For Large, Huge and Enormous, verify the exact trigger item: Tin Ore, Iron Ore or Gold Bars. A related item, a resource viewed but not collected, or a component crafted from the resource may not satisfy the documented acquisition event.

The quest gate seems stuck

For Small, confirm that the Blacksmith rescue objective in Find the Sleeping Survivor is complete. For Medium, confirm that Table Saw For The Carpenter was accepted. The Medium gate is tied to acceptance, whereas the Small gate is tied to retrieving the Blacksmith.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The recipe is visible, but crafting is blocked

Read the material list in the panel and compare it with your inventory. Medium requires one Medium Chest, one Shroud Core and two Goo. Large requires one Large Chest, 10 Shroud Particles and one Alchemical Base. Huge requires one Huge Chest, one Shroud Nexus and three Enshrouded Oil. Enormous requires 24 Wood Planks, one Shroud Radiance, 15 Shroud Slime and two Gold Bars. A visible recipe with a disabled craft action indicates a material shortfall rather than an unlock failure.

The chest crafts, but a workshop cannot use it

Check that the chest is placed in the Flame Altar base and close enough for the intended workshop. Because range behavior can change between updates, test the placement in the current build instead of relying on an older map or distance recommendation.

What quest unlocks the bigger Magic Chests?

Only the Medium Magic Chest has a named quest gate: Table Saw For The Carpenter. The Large, Huge and Enormous recipes are documented as item-acquisition gates, unlocked by Tin Ore, Iron Ore and Gold Bars respectively. The Small recipe is tied to the Blacksmith rescue in Find the Sleeping Survivor. This is why searching for one quest that unlocks every larger chest leads to the wrong expectation: the gate changes after Medium from quest progression to resource acquisition.

Current-build verification

The recipe gates and capacities above come from Official Enshrouded Wiki entries. Those entries do not provide publication years for the recipe data, and the storage overview specifically cautions that workshop-range information may have changed. If your current game build behaves differently, use the in-game recipe panel as the final authority: meet the listed trigger, reopen the named crafter’s menu and confirm the displayed ingredients before spending resources.
