To play DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, you need the base game and either an edition that includes the add-on or a separate Revelations purchase. Explore thoroughly as you progress through the campaign; the reviewed coverage says level replay and additional challenges become available after you finish the story, giving you a way to return for missed content.
How to get access to Revelations
Bethesda says Revelations is included with the Premium Edition and Collectors Bundle. If you own the base game without an included entitlement, you can purchase the standalone digital add-on. Steam explicitly lists DOOM: The Dark Ages as required to play its Revelations DLC. Bethesda’s support page lists launch amounts of USD $19.99 for the add-on and $34.99 for the Premium Edition upgrade; these are not guaranteed current prices, so check your platform’s regional store before buying. Bethesda’s access and edition guidance and the Steam listing are the best places to confirm details.

Bethesda announced availability for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, and noted named Game Pass plans at the time of its announcement. Subscription catalogs and entitlements can change; check the current listing for your platform. If you bought an eligible Premium Edition on Steam but do not see the add-on, Bethesda says a previously reported entitlement issue was resolved; consult its support page for current account-specific help.
How to approach the campaign and collectibles
Revelations adds new levels, puzzles, demons, and the Chain Spear. Bethesda describes its combat as rewarding mastery of a combination of power and mobility. PC Gamer notes that the spear supports parrying and dodging, with dodges able to supercharge it; earlier weapons and the repaired Shield Saw also return as the campaign progresses. For optional finds, check side paths, broken walls, elevated ledges, and routes opened by objects you can interact with. A secondary location guide organizes collectibles by Proving Grounds, Hell’s Core, Chasm of Xal’Goroth, Osseus, Purgatory, and Uprising, and identifies Purgatory as a hub. Use its chapter sections as a practical index rather than assuming they are an official mission-order checklist: the reviewed sources do not provide one comprehensive official progression or a full list of mandatory objectives. The collectible guide is detailed but map- and image-dependent.
Proving Grounds examples
- Before entering the castle, look for broken stairs on the left leading to a secret area.
- Green Flesh and a shield pull lead to Codex: Marok Letters I.
- A blue skull opens an elevator route with enemies and fire traps. Continue through the lever and Komodo Dragon encounter to reach a Life Sigil.
- Elsewhere, shield-activated energy nodes open a door, and a broken wall provides another route to a secret.
These examples illustrate the guide’s exploration cues; consult its map-based directions for the exact locations of other finds.

When to return for missed items and challenges
PC Gamer reports that players cannot return to levels until after beating the story. It also reports that time-trial combat challenges, classic-Doom-inspired levels, and tough bosses unlock after the story, and describes revisiting the hub after missions to open additional areas. A practical completion order is therefore:
- Explore side routes and investigate interactable objects during each first visit.
- Finish the campaign rather than expecting to revisit earlier levels immediately.
- After the story, use the available chapter replay and hub routes to clean up missed items and attempt the additional challenges.
Bethesda says owners who complete the story gain three additional Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons. Its announcement does not specify every precise unlock condition for each post-story challenge, so use the in-game prompts for the exact requirements.
