For a complete removal, uninstall Epic Games Launcher through your operating system first, then remove the launcher’s documented cache and support files. On Windows, close the launcher from the system tray and use Add or Remove Programs; on macOS, quit the app, confirm its processes have stopped in Activity Monitor, move it from Applications to Trash, and review the Epic folders in your user Library.
Do not click Windows’ uninstall button until you have checked your game installations and backups. Epic Games Support warns that “The following process will remove all of your installed games.” Epic’s reinstall guidance documents that warning and the macOS cleanup locations.
What to check before uninstalling
Uninstalling the launcher is different from clearing its cache. An uninstall removes the application and may remove installed games, while cache cleanup targets temporary web data used by the launcher. Decide which outcome you need before deleting anything.

- Need to fix a display, sign-in, or update problem? Try the cache-only procedure first. It removes the documented web-cache folders without replacing the application.
- Need to preserve games? Confirm where each game is installed and that you have a backup or a way to reinstall it before using the Windows uninstall entry. Epic’s warning concerns the uninstall process, not merely closing the launcher.
- Need to remove every trace? Complete the operating-system uninstall, then inspect only the documented Epic locations. Do not delete unrelated folders because their names look similar.
Close any game and save other work before starting. A running launcher can keep files locked and cause an apparently incomplete cleanup.

Windows: uninstall Epic Games Launcher
1. Exit the launcher from the system tray
- Look at the notification area on the right side of the taskbar. Select the arrow for hidden icons if necessary.
- Right-click the Epic Games Launcher icon and choose its exit or quit command.
- Wait a few seconds so the launcher can close before opening the uninstall screen.
If the icon remains present, do not start deleting folders manually. Close the program again and retry the supported uninstall route.
2. Use Add or Remove Programs
- Open the Windows Start menu and search for Add or Remove Programs. On newer Windows releases, the same settings page may be labelled Installed apps.
- In the installed-app list, find Epic Games Launcher.
- Select the app’s menu or entry and click Uninstall.
- Read the confirmation screen. Epic’s support documentation states: “The following process will remove all of your installed games.” If you need those games, stop and verify your backup or installation plan before confirming.
- Allow Windows to finish. Do not interrupt the process by deleting the program directory while the uninstaller is running.
The supported entry is preferable to deleting the launcher folder yourself because Windows also maintains an uninstall registration. Removing files first can leave a broken entry that still appears in Settings.

3. Remove the documented launcher cache
After the uninstall completes, clear the cache if the Epic folder remains or if you are troubleshooting before a reinstall. Epic’s cache instructions are at its cache-support article.

- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. This opens your user-level AppData\Local folder without requiring you to reveal hidden folders manually. - Open
EpicGamesLauncher, thenSaved. - If they exist, delete only these cache folders:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. - Empty the Recycle Bin if you want the cache data removed immediately.
Folder names can vary by launcher version, so one or more of the three folders may not be present. Their absence is not an error. Cache deletion does not by itself uninstall the application or prove that every support file has been removed.

macOS: uninstall Epic Games Launcher
1. Quit the application
- Bring Epic Games Launcher to the front and choose its quit command from the app menu, or press Command-Q.
- Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
- Search Activity Monitor for Epic-related processes. Select any process that is still running, click the stop button, and choose Quit. Use Force Quit only if a normal quit does not work.
Checking Activity Monitor matters because a background process can keep files in the user Library open while you try to move the app to Trash.
2. Move the application to Trash
- Open Finder and select Applications in the sidebar.
- Locate Epic Games Launcher.
- Drag it to the Trash, or Control-click it and choose Move to Trash.
- Do not empty Trash until you have reviewed the support folders listed next. This gives you a chance to restore an item if you selected the wrong file.
The macOS reinstall guidance does not make the same explicit game-removal statement as the Windows uninstall warning. Treat important game installations cautiously anyway: check their location and back up anything you cannot readily download again before emptying Trash.

3. Review Epic files in your user Library
Epic’s official guidance identifies these user Library locations for leftover files:

To inspect each location, use Finder’s Go > Go to Folder…, enter the path, and press Return. Look for files or folders clearly associated with Epic Games Launcher. Move only those items to Trash; leave unrelated application data in place. When you have checked all five locations, empty Trash to complete the removal. These paths and the sequence are described in Epic Games Support’s reinstall instructions.

Clear only the Epic Games Launcher cache
Cache cleanup is appropriate when the launcher itself should stay installed. It removes cached web content that can become corrupted; it does not remove the application bundle, game installations, or every preference and log file.
