There’s no general iPhone undo button or change history for arbitrary Settings changes in Apple’s documented guidance. If you don’t know what changed, use the behavior you noticed to narrow down the relevant setting, then change one thing at a time and test it.
Find the setting from the behavior you noticed
If you know which control changed, open its Settings page and restore the value you remember. If you don’t, treat the symptom as a clue—not proof of a particular cause—and check the most relevant category first:
- Display looks different: check Display & Brightness and Accessibility.
- Alerts have changed: check Notifications and Focus.
- Location or app permissions behave differently: check Privacy & Security.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or mobile connectivity is affected: check the corresponding network setting.
These are practical places to look, not an iOS feature that identifies which setting was last changed. Apple’s documentation describes reset options, but not a universal history or undo control for forgotten changes. Apple’s iPhone guide to resetting settings explains the available reset choices.
Make one change, then test
Change a single plausible setting and check whether the behavior returns to normal before changing anything else. This keeps the fix easy to reverse and helps identify which control mattered. If another person may have used the iPhone, ask whether they changed anything; also check the affected app’s own settings when the behavior is limited to one app. Don’t assume iOS keeps a general audit trail of setting changes.

Choose the narrowest reset that fits the problem
If manually correcting a setting does not help, iPhone offers category-specific resets. They affect more than one individual toggle, so check the consequences before choosing an option. Menu wording can vary with iOS version and localization; consult the reset screen and Apple’s current iPhone reset guide.

For a connection problem: Reset Network Settings
Apple says this option removes saved networks and certain VPN settings, disconnects Wi-Fi, and can affect roaming and manually trusted certificates. That is a substantial change if you only need to reconnect to one network. Use it only when the problem appears network-related and you’re prepared to reconfigure affected connections.

For a different category: use its named reset
Other targeted options include Reset Keyboard Dictionary, Reset Home Screen Layout, and Reset Location & Privacy. These act on their respective categories; none is a way to restore one forgotten toggle while leaving all other settings untouched. Check Apple’s reset options and effects before selecting one.
What Reset All Settings changes
Apple lists a wide range of preferences and pairings affected by Reset All Settings: Apple Pay cards, Apple Watch pairings, accessibility, Bluetooth pairings, display, Face ID, Home Screen layout and wallpaper, keyboard dictionary, location, notifications, previously trusted computers and accessories, privacy and security, sounds and haptics, Touch ID, VPN configurations, and Wi-Fi networks. You’ll need to reconnect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, pair Apple Watch again, set up Face ID or Touch ID, and adjust preferences as needed.

Apple says this reset does not delete photos, messages, apps, documents, or other listed data and media. That does not make it a narrow fix: it resets many preferences at once. For certain Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or other system-feature problems, Apple recommends restarting first. Its guidance describes Reset All Settings as “This step is rarely necessary.” See Apple Support’s Reset All Settings guidance, published May 21, 2026.
Do not confuse Reset All Settings with Erase All Content and Settings. The latter removes content. Confirm the exact menu item before proceeding; Apple explains the distinction in its iPhone reset guide.

Restore a backup only as a broad fallback
An iCloud backup can include device information and settings that don’t regularly sync to iCloud, including device settings and Home Screen layout, according to Apple’s Back up iPhone guide. But restoring a backup rolls back the device, not just the suspected setting. Apple requires erasing an already-set-up iPhone before restoring it from an iCloud backup. During the restore process, you can compare available backups by date and size.
Before choosing this route, verify that the backup you intend to use exists and understand the erase-and-restore steps. Apple’s backup restore instructions cover iCloud and computer restores.
